On Wednesday, April 2, 2014, Mitchell R. Mayle, 22 of North Riverside was convicted by plea of guilty to the charge of possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, a Class 4 Felony. Mr. Mayle was sentenced to 2 years drug probation, 30 days community service, random drug testing and $1,309.00 in court fines. On Monday, November 5, 2012 at 7:50 a.m., the Riverside Police Department and WEDGE Gang and Drug Task Force executed a search warrant on a home in the 2500 block of Desplaines Avenue in North Riverside. In this case, police recovered a replica 9-milimeter handgun, 2 digital scales, 7 cell phones, 4 knives, 165 grams of cannabis, drug paraphernalia, a backpack with $4,470.00 United States currency inside, and packing material for delivery of cannabis and documents consistent with drug sales. Riverside Police Chief Thomas Weitzel and WEDGE Chairperson stated, The WEDGE Unit, Forest Park Police Department's Tactical Response Team and K-9 Unit were instrumental in making the original arrest. The arrest came after a twomonth long drug investigation culminated in Mr. Mayles arrest and now ultimately his conviction. It was alleged during our investigation that Mr. Mayle was selling cannabis in large amounts to juveniles in the western suburban at the time of his arrest. Chief Weitzel went on to say, I am extremely proud of the work done by the WEDGE Gang and Drug Task Force as their mission continues to be to eradicate gang and drug activity from the member agency communities. WEDGE also filed seizure paperwork to recover the cash involved the narcotic sales and were awarded that cash amount ($4470.00) to be used by the WEDGE Gang and Drug Task Force for future investigations and or equipment. The plea was accepted by Judge Noreen Valeria Love.
