Construction
Piston type actuator: high cycle life, lower air consumption and more compact design versus diaphragm type 316L Stainless Steel Housing and Compressor Spindle guides to reduce friction, provide long service life without galling

Modes of Operation Spring to Close Type

- Uses powerful spring(s) to close against system pressure - Uses combination of air pressure and system pressure to open

Valves automatically close in event of loss of air supply or electrical power

Fail close valves protect integrity of piping system if power fails

- Uses Air to close against system pressure - Uses combination of spring and system pressure to open

Valves automatically open in event of loss of air supply or electrical power

Typical Application: Suction Side of Pump

Modes of Operation Double Acting Type

- Uses air to close against system pressure - Uses combination of operating air and system pressure to open

Valves fail in last position in event of loss of air supply or electrical power

Least Common Actuator Type

Typical Applications
The majority of Life Science applications have pressure on one side of the weir only
This condition is generally called 100% pressure drop, or 100% P

This is the most common service condition in the Life Science Industry

Typical Applications
The force on the diaphragm is greatest when there is pressure on both upstream and downstream sides of the weir
This condition is generally called 0% pressure drop, or 0% P

Maximum force is working against actuator. This is not a common service condition in the Life Science Industry

Practical Thinking
100% P applications include use point, sampling, drain, recirculating loop and most batch type process applications
0% P applications create dead legs stagnant fluid in piping and is not a common or acceptable condition in Life Science applications
