State Standards Addressed in this Lesson:


K.2.MS.1 - Apply knowledge of the critical elements of movement concepts while performing nonlocomotor skills during participation in target, net/wall, invasion, and striking/fielding modified games in dynamic settings.

NASPE Standards Addressed in this Lesson:


Standard 1 ~ The physically literate individual demonstrates competency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns. Standard 2 ~ The physically literate individual applies knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies and tactics related to movement and performance. Standard 4 ~ The physically literate individual exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others.

Psychomotor Objectives for this Lesson:


P1: (NASPE Standard #1) TSWD proper form of shooting an arrow with a compound or recurve bow by: Straddling the shooting line with non-dominant shoulder facing the target (STANCE) Nocking the arrow with the odd colored fletching facing away from the bow (NOCK ARROW) Drawing the bow back with two or three fingers creating a hook (DRAW) Coming to an anchor point by cheek before releasing (ANCHOR)

Pre-requisite Skills or Knowledge Needed for Success in this Lesson:

Adaptations and/or Extensions for this Lesson:


a.) Adaptations: If students are struggling, they may use a recurve bow instead of the compound bow. b.) Extensions: Students can always improve their 3-arrow score next time they shoot.

Use the following cues: Bring it in, Address the Target, Pick Up Your Bow, Nock your arrow, Raise on Target, Fire at Will, Bows Down, Retrieve Your Arrows

General Lesson Plan with Timeline

Opening Activities:
30 sec.

WELCOME:
-Welcome students as they enter the gym and head into the locker rooms to get changed

10 min. 1 min.

WARM-UP ACTIVITY: TRANSITION PLAN:


Blow the whistle, have students head to their seats on the floor. Role will be taken and announcements will be made.

2 min.

ATTENDANCE/ANNOUNCEMENTS:
During this time, also explain that today we will be continuing our archery unit and keeping score today. We will review the steps of the process when we get upstairs. Before we do that we need to continue to work on our fitness exercises...

FITNESS ACTIVITY: 5,4,3,2,1s


Have students do push-ups, sit-ups, and leg lifts running from one baseline to the other. They should so 5, then, 4,3,2,1 back and forth until finished.

TRANSITION PLAN:
Please head upstairs and have a seat against the bleachers so we can begin

Lesson focus:

INSTRUCTION/DEMONSTRATION:
Review the steps of the process: Straddle the line, standing sideways with non-dominant shoulder facing target Nock your arrow with the odd-colored fletching facing away from the bow Drawing with 2 or 3 fingers, creating a hook Coming to an anchor point by cheek before releasing

TRANSITION PLAN:
On GO, get together with your country group and head to the appropriate shooting station, that will be the target you use for the remainder of the day GO

APPLIED ACTIVITY: Archery Range


During this 30 minute block of time, students will be in their groups rotating shooters so everyone has an opportunity to shoot and then continuing to work through their groups. Pass out the scoring sheets to each group and explain that they are simply for tracking their scores, however it is the only way their scores will be recorded, so make sure they are filling them out as they go Remind students to focus on the process steps we talked about. The idea for the day is consistency and getting a consistent flight with the arrows
