AS A CONTRACTORS QS

Following facts should be discussed relevant to the contract with the head. Mobilization of the site Distribution of project duration Assign officers for related job. Methods manpower and equipment requirement. Cash flow statements should be sent to finance division. Cost of activities should be calculating using BOQ. Value of the activities should be calculated with specification and preambles.

PREAMBLES NOTE
Preambles notes are the pricing instructions which are not covered by the BOQ description itself or any other tender documents such as drawings, specification, etc... Preambles notes are equally apply to the items in entire section of the bill of quantity

LIST OUT MATERIALS/SUB CONTRACTS


Construction activities and drawings should be list out trade wise.(electrical, A/C, telecommunication, TV, etc.) Registered subcontractors, suppliers should be categorized trade wise.

PRELIMINARIES
Preliminaries should be identifying after studying the BOQ. Preliminaries mean site administrating cost and other general items such as large plant, electricity, water. The cost of which are properly apportioned to individual unit rate. E.g. site office, access road, temporary sanitary, maintaining joining properties. Materials, equipment, man power required should be listed. Rate should be prepared with the prices use for the bidding. Estimate for preliminaries should be prepared using above data.

PREPARE NECESSARY DOCUMENTS TO IMPORT MATERIALS AND ACCESSORIES


Duty free materials, accessories according to the bidding documents should be listed. Time period for materials and accessories according to the construction materials. Details of approved materials and quantities should be sent to client. Reconciliation reports should be prepared after obtaining the details of used materials from the site stores.

INQUIRIES AND QUOTATION(MATERIALS AND SUB CONTRACTORS INQUIRIES)


Due to affect of inflation, the variance of deliver cost and quantity discounts, the estimator is usually required to obtain a quoted price for every nature material to be included in the estimate. This requires a detail list of all the material and their specification and the total quantities required to be abstracted from the contract documents the delivery days for the materials are obtained from the out line construction programme. Because of the constraint of time estimate can proceed with assumed prices for materials(based on resent quotations)when the actual quotation is received the calculations can be adjusted.

INQUIRIES SENT TO SUPPLIERS CONSIST THE FOLLOWING


The specification of materials The quantity of the materials The address of the site The means of the access The any traffic restrictions and condition affecting delivery. The period for which the quotation is required to remain. The date by which the quotation is to be submitted. The likely delivery programme. The name of the person to whom any reference should be made.

RECEIVING QUOTATIONS
The estimator is required to check that all the materials meat the specifications of the contract document and can be delivered to the site at the times required by the constriction programme. The quotation check includes the terms of payments, the discount rate, the trading condition and price of the material.

OBTAINING SUB CONTACTORS QUOTATIONS


As the part of the preliminary study, the estimator has to identify the scope of the sub-contractors work. The factors that control the decision of which work to be sub contractor are mainly specialization of the work involved and the size of the contract.

SUB-CONTRACTORS INQUIRES
The sub- contractor's programme The sub-contractors commitments in the contract administration stage Sub-contactors responsibilities Provision of water power and other services Facilities for inspections by the main contractors representative Control information provided regularly by the sub-contract.

RECEIVING QUOTATION FROM SUB-CONTRACTORS


On receipt of sub-contractors quotation the estimator is required to check that all the items have priced correctly in accordance with the unit of measurement requirements

ATTENDANCES
Having selected a sub-contractor, the estimator does not simply entry the appropriate rate against the relevant items in the BOQ. As assessment has to be made of the antecedence necessary for sub contractors about the site conditions and working environment 1) general attendance use of temporary works Accommodations and sanitary facilities office accommodation and space plant and material Lighting , water power and other services Material unloading and distribution Cleaning away of rubbish / debris

2. Special attendance Provision of labours and material handling.
