Student Name: Natasha Thandi Course Expressions

Grade Level: 8

Trimester: 1.

Academic Accomplishments and Challenges (1-2 per academic subject in sentence format. Can be a bullet list). In expressions we created Graffiti art painting. First we went online to www.graffiticreator.net and created our design. Next we traced our design onto a paper. Final we painted our drawing. I chose CRAZY as my word. I was really proud of it and I think I did a good job on it. But when we were doing the cartoon character sculpture it didnt turn out the way I wanted it to. I had trouble with getting the shape of the sculpture. In this class I thought I did a very good job overall in this class. My final grade was a 5 (96%). We learned a lot in this class like about courage, dystopian stories and a report of information. We wrote a dystopian story. Dystopian means a make belief place which is unpleasant and takes place in the future. I thought I did really well on that project because I had very good details and was very informative. My story ended up being 18 pages long. I got 40 out of 40 on this project. But there were projects that I didn't do so well on like the Report of Information essay. I thought it was well done but I didnt turn it on time so I got 25 out of 50. In math we didnt have many projects but the one of the some that we did do was an origami cube. I thought I did very well. I received 8.5 out of 10. When we were creating the cube, we first folded 6 pieces of paper; then we put them together to form the cube. We took a picture of the finished cube and send the image to Ms. Ferran through a google form. We did a Rugby unit towards the end of the trimester. Rugby is a game that an originated in the UK. It is a combination of soccer and American Football. I thought I did an excellent job during this unit. I really participated in the games. I tried my hardest and gave it my all. I made a total of 7 tries (in American football it is called a touchdown). In science, we had to create a science safety video, which displayed our understanding of the rules in the science lab. We ended up working with a group of student of our choice. The video had to include safety equipment, how to clean up lab station rules, and what to do if anything bad we're to happen. In social studies, we had to create a Fakebook. Fakebook is a website that lets you create a fake Facebook page for a historical figure. I ended up getting Benjamin Franklin as my historical figure. Though I thought I did a good job, but misread the instructions and got 84 out of 100. First project we had in technology was a Multi Genre Autobiography Project. We had to create a presentation that showed what we liked in different genres like music, books, movies, etc. throughout our lives. I decided to make a Prezi to display my multi genre autobiography.

Leading Edge Academy Pillars are: Building Partnerships/Shared Leadership, Using Critical Thinking/Innovative Problem Solving, Demonstrating Technological Savvy, Appreciating Cultural Diversity, and Thinking Globally. Please write below how you think your work connected to some or all of these this trimester?

Building Partnerships/Shared Leadership: In science, we had to create a video to show the metric system works. Unlike the Science safety video, we had partners assigned to us. I ended up work with a small group of students, that I had never worked with before. But as we kept working together, it made our bond as partners stronger too. Critical Thinking/Innovative Problem Solving: In technology, we had to create a song parody based off of one of the 8 parts of speech. I ended up working with 2 friends of mine. We we're randomly assigned a part of speech and we ended up getting adverbs as ours. We decided that we would do Mercy by Duffy as our parody. We had to think hard lyrics that went with the beat but still had sense. Technological Savvy: In every class we have meet the Tech Savvy pillar, but to me, the infographics we created in Technology showed a lot of tech savviness. This was the second time we had to create an infographic, so we we're more experienced this time around. An infographic is a visual image that has facts and information is the form of a graph, chat, images, etc. Cultural Diversity: In Expressions, we learned about Dia Des Los Muertos. Dia Des Los Muertos also known as Days of the Dead is a Mexican holiday. This unit was very cultural diversity because it is celebrate in a different country. Thinking Globally: I believe that our Rugby unit really meant the Global Thinking pillar really well. We learned about a sport that was invented on the other side of the world. Rugby is an international sport that is played with an oval shaped ball.
GOALS: After looking over your information above, please set two goals for yourself. One must be academic and one should be based on the pillars. Explain how you will try to reach these goals.

Academic Goal: This trimester, I want to improve my reading and writing skills. I am still having a hard time fixing and repairing my reading skills so it affect my reading. Pillar Goal: To try to connect more of my project back to the global thinking pillar.
