Signs of hypocrisy in Salah (Prayer): Ibn al-Qayyim

Praying the salah properly with all it's external and internal etiquettes (proper manners) has been described in the Quran and Hadith as an indicator of true faith in Allah. hereas! habitually Praying salah in a careless and spiritually irresponsible manner is considered as a disaster for one's faith and a sign of nifaq (hypocrisy). Allah says" #$uccessful indeed are the belie%ers. &hose who offer their $alat (prayers) with all solemnity and full submissi%eness. '()"*+(, And those who strictly guard their $alawat (prayers).# '()"-, #$o woe to the worshippers ho are neglectful of their prayers! &hose who (want but) to be seen (of men).# '*./"0+1, #And see2 help in patience and $alaah and truly it is extremely hea%y and hard! except for the 3hashi'oon (those who are humbly submissi%e to Allah).# &he Prophet said" *. 4&he manner of $alah of the hypocrites is that they wait for the sun to set! up to the point that it (the sun) is between the two horns of $atan and then they stand (for $alah). He then bangs his head (on the earth) four times and he remembers Allah &a5ala but rarely.6 ($ahih 7uslim) (. Abu 7usa (ra) reports that one day the Prophet led the 8ompanions in $alah and then sat amongst them. A person then entered and performed $alah. He was %ery hasty in bowing and prostrating. &he Prophet said! 49oo2 at this person. :f he were to die! he would not die on the religion of 7uhammad . He is pec2ing at $alah li2e a crow pec2s at blood.6 ($ahih :bn 3hu;ayma) ). hen a person performs $alah at its earliest (most desired) time! that $alah ascends towards the hea%ens. :t becomes light for the person and subsequently it reaches the &hrone and supplicates for the forgi%eness of the person who performed $alah until the <ay of =udgement. :t says! >7ay Allah &a5ala safeguard you ?ust as you safeguarded me.5 hen a person performs $alah after its allocated time has passed! the $alah goes towards the hea%ens in such a manner that it is co%ered in dar2ness. hen it reaches the &hrone it is co%ered in an old cloth and thrown bac2 in the face of the person who performed it. &he $alah then states! >7ay Allah &a5ala destroy you ?ust as you destroyed me.5 (3an; al '@mmal! &abarani) $ummari;ing the points in the abo%e texts! :mam :bn al+Qayyim A.A. writes! #$ix matters that are lin2ed to the prayer ha%e been indicated as mar2s of hypocrisy" *) 9a;iness when one stands up to pray. () :ntending to show off with one's prayer. )) <elaying the prayer. 0) Praying in an extremely hasty manner. B) Carely remembering Allah during the prayer.
