FEBRUARY, 1975 thrilled this past week when Betsy came with her to worship GREETINGS! service and enjoyed it so much she's telling all her friends and cousins. Blanca received her modern Spanish translation of Our Brothers and Sisters in Christ, the New Testament not very long ago and has already read it once. She says shecan'tputitdown. Praise the Lord! Blanca Wesincerely hope all of you had avery blessed Christmas. says lliat soon she will have our house full on Sunday morn We pray for you a new year filled with many opportunities to ings just with her relatives, with tlieLord's help of course. On witness for our Lord and Savior.

CHARLEY AND INEZ

Wednesday she brought her sister and brother-in-law. Maria, her best friend, was baptized yesterday and Blanca was so

happy she cried. Akria is insocialwork in the public schools.

Samuel, who is Eddie Chevrez's best friend, was baptized this week also. Heisasfaithful as Eddie was, coming to every service either on his motorcycle or running from town. By the

way, the group in San Juan tell usthat Eddie is the most faith
ful and the strongest Christian teenager they have. He goes calling with them every night to help in translation etc. We miss Eddie. He wants to go to Bible College so bad but his father says "no." Pray for that situation, too.

VISITORS FOR CHRISTMAS

John's aunt Dora and uncle Carl, from Ohio, came to visit for a week at Christmas, and really helped out. Uncle Carl, who is an outstanding elder inthcNorthwestAvenue Church of Christ, preached our Christmas Sunday sermon. The children sang six new Christmas songs they learned, too. Our church family had a get-together on Christmas Eve and Aung Dora had a real good talk for the ladies. Then cookies and punch. The Puerto Ricansare stillcelebrating Christmas -from Thanks giving until Three Kings Day onJanuaryG. Talk about noise
pollution!

Charley, Inez, Jeneen and Lorna Beteta

Charley and Inez Beteta have left for the States and of
course, we have mixed emotions. We can't tell you what an

encouragement this family has been to us and to all the fami lies here. They are so faithful and so full of zeal for Christ's Work. Charley recently was laid off his job, which in itself was an answer to his prayers, but they came to Bible study that Wednesday feeling lost. They wanted to work in a full-

three-hour drive home that night!

In November John and Terry were asked to preach for the Faith Promise Rally held by the International Christian Uni

Maybe you've read in thepapers aboutourwater problems. The island water company has been on strike and there's been bombings and lots of sabotage going on. The government has pleaded with us to filter and boil our water and even rinse dishes in boiling water. It's a lot of work and the boiled water

here in Mayaguez since our last newsletter, for which we thank our Lord. Hiram and Aida Martinez were baptized together in September. They are a faithful young couple with three girls. The change of season in November causes much sick ness in Puerto Rico and Aida is still recuperating from a bout with penumonia. Pray for her; she has had to quit her job,
also.

PRAYER REQUESTS
Again we request your prayers for prospects, of which we have several right now, and also for our whole congregation, that we might all grow together in the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ. We want to ask you to begin praying about the purchase of property for our congregation here. There is the possibility of buying the house we are currently renting. It is very expandable and expensive, we might add - $15,000 down. But nothing is impossible with God, right? Thank you again for your prayers and we're looking for ward to another year of being co-workers with you in Christ's Kingdom here on eartli.

Senor and Senora Sacarello were also baptized one stormy

day and the beach was swarming with mosquitoes and jelly fish. They didn't even notice. Ernest is a "bookie", but here
it is legal!
Renee Fernandez is an "Americana" but is married to a

Puerto Rican. On the day she was baptized we walked a mile

up tlie beach to find a place where the waves weren't so high. It happened that John and Renee were immersed by a huge
wave. We on shore wereso busy watching, we all got wet, too.

Renee asks your prayers for her husband that he might know Christ, too. Her youngest girl, who is fifteen months old, is also recuperating from pneumonia. Renee is helping already
in the Bible school classes and is quite a capable teacher.
This week Blanca Cruz was united with Christ and was so

Boy can I talk now. I could really talk your leg off but you might not be able to understand everything. Mom and Dad are pretty good at translating though. I even know a few

a chance. I also learned to talk on a banana, on Sesame

P. S. DEAR CHRISTIAN

FRIENDS,
How we thank each and every one of our Christian friends and congregations for making this past year possible with the Lord's help. The work in Mayagucz has been blessed and is reaching out to others. The Charley Beteta family is at John son Bible College. Please keep this family especially in your prayers as they begin this new life and commitment to the Lord. We are thankful for yourcontinuedfinancial and prayer support of Terry and Dianne. Ifyouhave any questions, sug gestions or would like to have the slides for yourselves person ally or for your congregation, please let us know. The work in Clinton continues to be blessed and hopefully the foundation for growth and maturity is being laid for a strong nucleus to lead here. We were thankful to have had an opportunity to present a workshop on the "Works and Functions of a For warding Agent" at the Missionary Convention in Cincinnati. God bless each and every one of you as you begin a new year in our Lord. Neal and Dot Clapp

GREETINGS!

Dear Christian friends, Again It Is time to share with you all that has been happening here In Puerto Rico the past few months.

our church family this past winter. Infact, Maria's Catholic family is telling her she has been sick because God Is cursing her for leaving Catholicism. Unfortunately, Puerto Ricans are superstitious enough to believe it, so pray for Maria.
REVIVAL

On May 18, we'll be having our sec ond special with John and Mary Reece, who have recently returned from the
Costa Rica language school. Luis will be returning and he is bringing his wife and daughter this time.
REINFORCEMENTS

We had our first special services on April 5 and 6 and we all grew spiritually from the experience. Dick and Sarah Robison, our good friends from San Juan, came and brought Luis Andino with them. Luis, a Christian of 5 months, preached Saturday evening and did a wonderful job of presenting the Gospel. Dick taught us some new choruses they had learned at the Costa Rica language school and our people surely liked that. They love to sing! Sunday we hod special morning and evening services and Dick preached for the first time in Spanish, without notes. Have you any idea how difficult this Is! The congregation's response was terrific which really encouraged Luis and

In addition to the Cardona family, Junior's fiancee, Carmen (Tita), was immersed into Christ one Sunday afternoon this summer at the public beach. She insisted that Junior was not to know until later that evening because she didn't want him to think he had forced her into accepting
Christ. She wanted to do this on her own because she saw the need in her life - the need to have

Christ in her heart and the need to have Christ,

the center of their home, 'fhey haven't set a date yet for the wedding, but, perhaps when we write
again, we will have had our first Christian wed ding. By the way, Tita has helped immensely in cleaning up our house after the flood. We were having a hard time evangelizing dur ing July because we had to check on the girls every hour or so (we still can't get telephones), and it's a good thing we checked becau.se, when Jason was born, everything was over in one hour and a half. Eighteen year old Samuel Cardona arrived safely at Johnson Bible College in August, to be gin his Bible training there. His family was sad to see him leave home but they were happy for him because this was something he really wanted
to do. Before he left Mayaguez, he baptized his older sister, Eva, into Christ and since he left his father, mother and sisters have been regular ly attending worship services and are having Bible lessons in their home each week. They were also baptized this week. Pray for them and Sam. Charley and Inez Beteta are also still at Johnson

They have been such an encouragement to us all. They have loaned us their chord organ because we no longer have a piano.

much damage, and we were affected by the river flooding. It was September 16th and raining heavily when John and Mary came to tell us we'd better come up to their house. They were out for
a ride and could see many low areas were flood ing fast, but we had no hurricane warnings^nd
our area had never flooded before. None of us

most of the night, keeping the babies close to us to keep them as warm as possible, even though we were shivering. The cementfloor was so cold
on our bare feet but at least our feet hadn't been

teacher's desk, and the babies cried themselves to

sleep when they didn't get anything to eat. During_the night,_boats brought us cans andjnore
cans of saltine crackers - no water. A Rum truck

could get out fast enough. Within five minutes, the water was up the street and in our house ankle-deep. (This was about 1:00 P.M.) There was no time to get bottles or milk or diapers or even shoes - just a blanket or two for the babies; these immediately became soaked when we went
out in the wind and rain. On the sidewalk and

street, the water was hip-deep and the current strong, as we joined our neighbors, trying to reach higher ground. We reached the two-story school building on our street, but the gates were locked. We thought we'd have to climb the eightfoot fence and squeeze thru the three strands of barbed wire on top, however, someone broke the

the street so the going was slow and rough. The water was still about 3 -4 feet deep. Tne truck took us up to John and Afery's urbanization, and again, we walked in the rain several blocks to their house. We thought we'd never get warm.
Of course there was no water or electricity but

gate open, and we rushed to the second floor where again, someone brokelocks to letus in the rooms. Everyone was screaming and crying as they tried to find the rest of their families, but
thank God we have that "peace that passeth all understanding". Terry went down to help others get in, but by that time the current was too strong and the water too deep to help many more. Those people got on their roofs and waited sev eral hours for helicopters. One baby died when it
fell from the rescue basket. Another man died

God had prepared the way. Mary had boiled

some extra water before they had left. Then came the clean-up job. There had been
about five feet of mud and water in our house.

The houses on the street parallel to us were com

of all the looters and sightseers. Everyone is still nervous. Every time it rains they pack up and

leave. And every time fix-it men come, we have another mess (new doors, new kitchen cabinets,
electrical system cleaned, etc.).
PLEASE, PLEASE PRAY

John and Mary have returned to their sup porting church in the states for several weeks and as yet Juanita and Jesus haven't arrived, so please pray for us as there is much to do in their absence. Lord willing, we'll be home on a short furlough in the spring of next year, flow we are looking forward to seeing and talking with all our Christian friends again. Thank you for your prayers and the extra financial help you've given us at this time. We love you.
In Christian Love,

I was scared but God took care of us just like Noah. Boy did our house look different when we went back - EMPTY, no more Bible story books or clothes or toys in my room, just a bed that the Red Cross gave us. Mommy says at least the house is easy to clean. Guess I'll go and try to

wake up Jason, he must be good for something. See you soon. Save some snow for me, okay?

Please drop them a card or write a few lines letting them know you continue to remember them in your prayers along with a word of encouragement! This really helps strengthen them. We thank you for your patience with us as

we, too, have been under a number of pressures

P.S. A NOTE FROM NATHAN

I told you last time something was up around here. Guess what, a doctor gave me a baby brother. John and Mary got one too, only she's a girl. Must have been a sale! Jason doesn't do anything but eat and sleep. He can't even chase lizards or play with me, but Mommy says he'll grow up fast. I can't even catch them very good myself now, because Daddy makes me wear boots in our muddy yard. But I find lots of neat things in the mud. Did they tell you about all the water?

Ridge Lab and Good News .Mission (and the hur ricane), we have just completed a book, "The Forwarding Agent: A Vital link in Direct-Support Missions" which will be ready for the National NDssionary Convention in St. Louis, Thanks giving week. We will have three workshops at the convention and felt the urgency of writing a book letting other forwarding agents know their respon sibilities as well as those of the missionary, the church and supporters and the state and federal governments. Charles and Inez Beteta and Sam
Cardona continue to bless us here in Clinton.

Their loss in Puerto Rico was our gain. Please continue to remember us all in your prayers.

Each of you is a very vital member of the Good News Mission team. God bless and strengthen
you as you continue to serve Him. Neal and Dot Clapp

TERRY AND DIANNE ADDLEMAN MISSIONARY RECRUITS

MAYAGUEZ, PUERTO RICO, WEST INDIES

Terry is originally from the First Christian Church of

Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania. He is a 1966 graduate of the

University of Pittsburgh with a BS degree in Chemical Engineering. For three years thereafter he worked as a process engineer for the Olin Chemical Corporation at Charleston, Tennessee. During this time he married Dianne Kay Fulmer of the Duquesne Christian Church, Duquesne, Pennsylvania. Together, they worked with the Athens Chris
tian Church, Athens, Tennessee.

Terry and Dianne met each other six years earlier at Camp Christian, Mill Run, Pennsylvania. Memories and training received there through many years eventually led to their decision to enter the ministry for their Lord. The Addlemans arrived at Johnson Bible College in the summer of 1969, where Terry is currently a senior ministerial student. Terry and Dianne have worked with the youth of the Gap Creek Christian Church at Kimberlin Heights, Tennessee, for the past two years. Dianne is a 1968 BA graduate of Bethany College, Bethany, West Virginia. She has been a music education specialist in the Tennessee public schools for three years.
