It elaborates on his childhood and how talks about who and how his parents were. He was born an orphan, but the parents qualities were definitely brought through to him without their presence. Adrienne says (2013), The orphanage workers considered him a strange child, and is it hard to imagine just how little affection (never mind love) they might have given him (pg. 1). This statement shows that even at the orphanage, Voldemort received little to no affection from the staff; therefore, he was not well nurtured or taken care of. This article will help give a background of Voldemorts childhood and elaborates on the lack of love in his life.

This article gives information about different types of people, character names, objects, and names of spells. Ben gives the definition of a Horcrux (2011), stating that it is an item of dark magic that holds a piece of soul, used to attain immortality (p. 1). This paper will aid my research because my audience may not understand key terms that are used throughout the series that I will have to mention within my paper. For example the words mudblood and halfblood will be used to describe different types of characters and their families. Different family types have different backgrounds and therefore lead to a characters actions throughout the series.

He chooses three characters, Harry Potter, Neville Longbottom, and Severus Snape. He sees Harry as the classic hero, Neville as the every man hero, and Snape as the anti-hero. LaFortune touches on four major aspects of a familys impact on childhood development. The most important section to me is supportive, loving family. This sections says that having their parents show an interest in their activities develops a strong sense of self in the child (pg. 1). This quote shows that parental interest goes a long way in a childs life. This is something Voldemort lacks. Although Harry also lacked parent involvement, he still had people taking good care of him starting at the age of eleven. Voldemort never had anyone pay heed to him in a loving and affectionate manner.

This article is taken from Newsweek Magazine and is written in the perspective of the actor, Ralph Fiennes, that plays Lord Voldemorts roles throughout the movie series. The Newsweek staff states (2011), Young Voldemort was an orphan and denied any kind of parental affection or love, so hes been an isolated figure from a very young age (p. 1). This comment aids my thesis by describing how Voldemorts childhood was not that of a normal child. This article mentions various book names from the series (where the movies originated from), such as Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (p. 1). Finnes says (2011), He doesnt know what love is; its a language he doesnt understand (p.1). This statement shows how Voldemort has a lack of love throughout his childhoold and the entire series. This statement will aid my research because the main thing you get from family is their love, and Voldemort lacks love more than anything.

Rowling, J.K. (2007). Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. United Kingdom: Bloomsbury Publishing. This book directly correlates with the figured world I chose. In this movie you see a lot of different situations with various families (or what are considered to be families). In the first part of the book, the Weaselys house is burned down by dementors (evil monsters). The family deals with this tragedy together and in Rons character you can see all the morals his parents and siblings have passed onto him. Rons family also treats Harry and Hermione as their own. One tragic part of this book is when Hermione must wipe her real parents memories for their safety. Having to live and know that your parents will never recognize you or even have a memory of your existence is unbearable. Although she must perform this task, she sticks to the morals they have taught her and clearly their

Kripa Shah upbringing was a great one because Hermione is definitely seen as a major hero throughout the entire series. Rowling, J.K. (2005). Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. United Kingdom: Bloomsbury Publishing. This book leads to a tragic ending, Dumbledores death. Dumbledore is seen as a fatherly figure by Harry Potter, due to the fact that Harrys parents were killed when he was only an infant; therefore, when Dumbledore dies, its almost as if Harrys own father or grandfather has been murdered. The strong connection they had was clearly shown throughout the series, but is especially shown in this particular book when Dumbledore asks for some extra help from Harry. After going through such a rough task together, it ends with another tragedy in Harrys life. I can use this tragedy in my research because it shows how Harry still has such positive morals due to having this one man in his life, and he carries on those morals after Dumbledores death.

Seifert hits four major topics involving child personality growth: Birth Order, Family Size, Biology, and Family Environment. Influence from family has a huge affect on a childs personality; that is why I chose this article because I think Voldemort lacked family influence as a child. Seifert says, A child who is part of a stable family environment develops a sense of belonging -- which leads to a healthy self-esteem, confidence and individuality (pg. 1). I feel that this statement explains why Voldemort is overly confident and is obessed with power. His lonely childhood leads to him wanting to rule the world.

Shah, K.S. (February 2014). Assignment One. Harry Potter Series. This will definitely be a useful source because it is my own work. This assignment includes three major observations I completed based off of my topic. Within these observations, I am paying attention to scenes that include killing part of Voldemorts soul. Each item that is being found is considered one of the seven parts of Voldemorts soul. Various terms are defined in this assignment such as horcrux, Voldemort, Harry Potter, wand, etc. These terms are key throughout the series and especially involving the scenes I observed. The term horcuxes is especially important because it directly correlates with Voldemort.

There is a specific section of this article with the header Brain Drain and Mudbloods (p. 7). This section mentions how many of the students at Hogwarts are single (dont have siblings). This section also talks about the rapid decline in birth rate seen throughout the series (p. 8). A declining birth rate basically means as the generations go down, less children are born. This will aid my research because without siblings, many people can grow up feeling lonesome are unwanted. Husain states (2009), There are some wizardslike Malfoys familywho think that they are better than everyone else because their people are all pure blood (Rowling 1998: 89) (p. 7). This statement can show how some children can be brought up in an evil way because of their familys influences. Malfoy is a great example of this; his family teaches him bad things and that is clearly shown through his attitude toward the protagonists. This could be used as an opposing statement within my paper because it shows that family is not necessarily the best influence.
