After our assignments in term 1 the most challenging aspect of our work was related to the finance section of the assignments. Therefore, it was vital for the team to support our finance director to improve our work, to gain higher grades. However due to my weak numeracy skills I was not in a strong position to support the finance director in various numerical aspects of the assignments.
Action(s) Taken Parker (2001) defines what a team is, a team is a group of people working together with a common goal. Based on an earlier entry regarding shared SMART goals, I had taken necessary steps to which these goals could be met. Therefore as the definition of a team includes the aspect of working together I had taken steps which would allow me to work together effectively with the finance director thus reaching our goals. It was vital for me to take necessary action in order to improve my numeracy skills. By improving my numeracy skills I would be able to get more involved with the numerical parts of the finance section. Therefore I decided to book a place for a numeracy skill workshop held within the university. Consequently, I had attended the numeracy skills workshop, delivered by Harry Flynn. Outcome By attending the workshop my numeracy skills had improved significantly. The workshop allowed me to learn various different numerical approaches. As I had improved my numerical skills I was able to work with the finance director more effectively. I was able to assist the finance director when working on numerical aspects of our simulation. The positive impact of supporting the finance director was evident, as we had reached our SMART goal for the simulation. Our goal was to make the largest profit by the end of the simulation. Subsequently, as the simulation ended our team IndiGO had made the largest profit of 888,269. Learning I learnt the importance of helping other team members and the positive impact this has on team performance. As well as this I learnt that an individual who learns necessary new skills will be in a better position to help others within the team. This will lead to increased motivation and morale within the team thus achieving high results.

Future Development In the future I plan not to let my numeracy skills get weaker by developing and strengthening my numeracy skills. In the workshop I had attended advice was given how to develop your numeracy skills thus I will implement these approaches in the future. The techniques included completing maths puzzles on a weekly basis such as Sudoku and completing online numerical tests. As well as this I will gain an insight into other disciplines which I am not currently studying. Therefore a basic knowledge in other areas will allow me to gain a better understanding of other areas in business and find links between different disciplines.
