Corporate Social Responsibility

Introduction:
The term "corporate social responsibility" became popular in the 1960s and has remained a term used indiscriminately by many to cover legal and moral responsibility more narrowly construed. The arguments for CSR tend to focus on the relationship between power and responsibility, the need for good stakeholder relations, and business desire to forestall government regulation. The arguments against CSR tend to focus on the economic function of business, the imposition of unequal costs on some companies and stakeholders, and lower economic efficiency. Businesses need to balance economic, legal, and social responsibilities in order to achieve long-run success.

Definition:
Corporate Social Responsibility is the continuing commitment by business to behave ethically and contribute to economic development while improving the quality of life of the workforce and their families as well as of the local community and society at large.

CSR of HCL:
The company enables employees to engage in meaningful community service activities. Community-based programmes and activities are planned with a keen focus on sustainability and employee engagement. The Foundation was formed on the belief that every HCL employee can make a difference and is funded through employee and organizational contributions. All programmes are implemented with support from employee volunteer group called the Catalysts for Social Change (CSC). Some of the initiatives are SSN Institutions, Vidyagyan schools in Noida, Shiv Nadar School for underprivileged students, Shiv Nadar University at 287 acres in Noida at an ultimate capital outlay of Rs.1000 crore, and Kiran Nadar Art Museum. As per the DPE Guidelines, Company allocates budget for CSR&S in the range of 2%-3% of PAT for the previous year, appointing specialized agencies for

implementation, monitoring and evaluation for the planned activities, taking into consideration the Company's capabilities, expectations of the communities living in and around the areas of its operation, targeted to have significant positive impact in the long term. The objective of HCL is to play a catalytic role in the sustainable socio-economic development in the region, where the industry is located, attempting to create an enabling working environment for HCL, as well as income generation opportunities for the community, aiming at a sustainable regional development.

To give back to the society what we received from it has been the constant endeavor at HCL Technologies. It takes pride in being a company with a strong social conscience, and this ideology stems out of the fact that they are closely linked to the communities they operate in . It believes that every drop counts and every step aimed at helping the community is an important step. Its commitment to make a positive difference to the environment or the underprivileged is not about a one off initiative but is a sustained effort to make a visible change to people's lives.
