The World Summit on Indigenous Philanthropy will be the biggest event in IFIP history and we expect it to have a remarkable impact. We scheduled the Summit right after the United Nations World Conference on Indigenous Peoples (WCIP) in order to keep the momentum and capitalize on the international coverage of the UN event. The Summit will have an immediate and profound impact because it capitalizes on the WCIP, providing a continuum to this high-level UN meeting, giving more time to indigenous leaders and donors to learn about and from each other and discuss how to better do Indigenous philanthropy. This Summit will foster cultivation of funding partnerships and will draw global attention to the importance of Indigenous philanthropy. We firmly believe that Indigenous Peoples are invaluable partners in solving many of todays complex problems like climate change, conservation, and sustainable management of natural resources. Associating your name with IFIPs World Summit on Indigenous Philanthropy will bear witness to your commitment to improving the health of our planet and will make you part of a group of forward thinkers on the frontlines of environmental protection and social development. Supporting Indigenous Peoples, the stewards of some of the most biodiverse areas on the planet and holders of key resilience and sustainability models, means investing in the future of our planet and of our children.
As an old-time activist, Im very glad to see that the world of people working in philanthropy is increasing their consciousness in regard to indigenous issues. For me, coming from Latin America where there are more than 50 million indigenous peoples, my hope is that the alliance between donors and indigenous peoples can be a strong force to save the planet before we exhaust it. IFIP is in a position to build alliances and catalyze consciousness toward that end. Its a very important tool for that. (Nilo Cayuqueo, Vice-President, La Azotea Mapuche Community, Argentina)
