CES Linear Protection

Overview of the feature in FlexiPacket solution (FPH 800, FMFM 200, FPMR)
Standard According to MEF 2

Protection of Point to point (E-Line) services E2E protection mechanism Principle

A protected service has a working and a protection path End point exchange CCM to monitor the status of the path

Fault detection based on: CES: monitoring of traffic CES is constant rate service loss of traffic frames provide an indication of loss of connectivity Switching time <50ms Typical MW use in rings (can be used in any topology)

G.8031 Ethernet Protection switching

Overview of the feature in FlexiPacket solution (FPH 800, FMFM 200, FPMR)
Standard According to ITU-T G.8031

Protection of Point to point (E-Line) services E2E protection mechanism Principle

Scalability
Switching time depends on number of services FPH800: Sub50 ms w 8 services - up to 80 protected services w sub 400ms protection

Protected service provisioning

Focusing on operational issues
Service configuration must be properly executed on every node implementing the service IDU where the service is starting (UNI A) IDU where the service is terminating (UNI Z) IDU traversed by the service (NNI to NNI)
Protected service must be configured on the main (protected) path and stand-by (protecting path) IDU where the pair of services is starting (UNI A) IDU where the pair of services is terminating (UNI Z) IDU traversed by the protected service (NNI to NNI) IDU traversed by the protecting service (NNI to NNI) E2E service configuration is therefore a time consuming, risk prone, boring and service affecting task! PathManager for safe, fast and risk-less E2E service configuration provides a high value
