demand for world energy including the need of coal will keep
on growing in upcoming years. Moreover, consumers of
Indonesian coal is not just China but also India of which
demand for coal keeps on increasing. This condition has
made investors within and outside the country to enter coal

Australia, China, India, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand,
and others. They acquired coal mining areas or added their
share ownership to be the majority shareholders. Therefore,
there are lots of coal mining companies in Indonesia of which
their share ownership have been changed.

The success of coal company groups above has made several

companies in Indonesia to turn their core business into coal
sector by acquiring coal mining companies. For example, The
Rajawali Group turned its business into coal sector through
PT. Golden Eagle Energy which was previously dealing with
exhibition and restaurant business. Similarly, Samindo
Resources (ex MYOH Technology) also turned its core
business in to coal sector. The company previously used to
deal with information technology as software developer of
which the shares are controlled by SAMTAN Co Ltd.

Similarly, there are a great number of large sized company

groups in the country which lustrously expanded their
business by spending great investment. Those company
groups include The BUMI Plc Group, The ADARO Group, The
BAYAN Group, The INDIKA Group, The BANPU Group, The
BA Group, The BAKRIE Group, The TANITO Group, The
ASTRA Group, The SINAR MAS Group and so forth.
