Could Food Shortages Bring Down Civilization By: Lester R.

Brown
Food shortages could bring down global civilization As the grain production of the world have fallen short of consumption, stocks are also being decreased As demand for food rises faster than supplies are growing, the resulting food-price inflation put stress on governments of countries If the food situation continues to deteriorate, entire nations will break down at increasing rate Not concentration of power but absence that increase risk When government loser their monopoly on power, law and order begin to disintegrate If system for controlling infectious diseases break down, humanity will be in trouble 70% of the worlds freshwater is used on irrigation Mining groundwater supply for 15% of Indias food Due to wind and water erosion, the amount of topsoil is decreasing People are thinking of depending on GMO Soil should be conserved Yield decreases 10% as temperature increases one degrees of celsius Plan B: o Reducing carbon emissions o Stabilize the population for it not to pass 8 billion o Get rid of poverty o Restore forests, soils, and aquifers o It is the key to saving a collapsing society

Food shortages is causing economy of entire states to go down. And as more people are on Earth, the demand for food and other natural resources increases. Even though the demand for food is increasing, it is causing some countries to go out of hand and unable to support their own citizens. With a weak government, comes disaster. But people are thinking of using GMO to help make this food shortage situation better. There is also plan B, which might be able to save a society from collapsing. Plan B is an environmental friendly plan, and it benefits society as a whole. I think that it is possibly for the economy to fall due to food shortages. Some people do not believe in this fact because in America, it seems like food is always going to be there, but in reality, there is still a possibility that people wont have enough money to provide food for their families. That is why Plan B should be in active soon. It will help get rid of poverty, reduce

carbon emissions, and restore forests, soils, and aquifers. By enabling plan B, people will be able to live in a more sustainable society.

So what? Food shortages can lead to a decline in human population, and can cause economy to crash

What if? What if there Plan B was in action? Then there would be no poverty and the population would be stable. Carbon emissions will also be reduced.

This reminds me of This reminds me of soil because the amount of good and useful soil is also being reduced dramatically.
