Learn how to change fonts and colors using CSS Apply appropriate typography

I created this web page using TextMate 2. I have used HTML/CSS before but it was still interesting to see how you could make a web page by only using a simple text editor. We also learned how the validate the code using W3.org. This made it easier by checking my code for me so I could know exactly what I needed to fix. I attached an already made CSS document to my HTML. Then I added my logo and text that described it. I then used the colors from my logo as the colors for my web page. I found these colors by opening Photoshop and using the eyedropper tool. I also changed my fonts to rocket_script and Raleway which were fonts I found on Google Fonts and then added the code to make them work on any browser. I added some backup fonts like sans-serif just in case the code didnt work. I also used padding around the logo and text so that they would not be too close to the edge of the web page. This was one of the most challenging parts of working with CSS.

Objectives:

Learn to make an outline of text and manipulate it. Learn how to use the pen tool. Working with typography and images together.

Process:

The process was surprisingly easy. I made my job easy by creating my logos on paper first. I drew and drew and came up with about 10 really great ones that I liked, then I perfected them and changed them on paper. Finally, I took three of those and created them on the computer. It was easy to follow my designs for the most part. I used text and typography and simple lines and shapes.

How to brand a company using a unified letterhead and business card design.

I created my letterhead by using the logo I produced and shrinking it down to less than half of its original size. I made sure to keep it at least .5 away from the edges. Then I added the text Creative Chameleons and set that in the font that matched the business card. I added two lines that varied in width for added flare to the top and bottom of my letterhead. I then typed my contact information into a text box and positioned it on the bottom right hand side of the letterhead, above my line. I made the name bigger and positioned it underneath the line. This was now symmetrical to the top. Finally I added a water mark. I had to create the tail again, by simply tracing with the pen tool. Then I rotated it so that it sat longways down my letter head and positioned it on the left side. I kept the opacity to 2%.

How to brand a company using a unified letterhead and business card design.

First I drew my logo on paper until it looked how I wanted it. Then I created the logo using the tools in Adobe Illustrator. I uploaded my drawing and used the pen tool to trace over my drawing. Then I added fill color and stroke. Once the logo was created, I opened a new two page InDesign document and placed my logo .AI file into this document. I created my business card first. I started with the front. I put the logo of Creative Chameleons big and on the left side. Then I placed the information text in the bottom right corner to create balance. Finally I changed the colors and font until everything was looked unified. The font size of the information I kept at 6 pt. The back of my business card was created by taking the logo of the chameleon and using only his tail. I made the tail bigger and rotated it to fill up the bottom half of the card. Then I blew up the text Creative Chameleons and using the pen tool and draw on a line tool, I was able to put the words in a curved line overtop of the tail. Finally I changed the colors so that they matches the front of the business card.

A black and white flyer that promotes a graduate leadership

Adobe InDesign

Objectives:

I learned that this process of creation takes longer than I think and that I need to allow myself adequate time to complete the assigned project. However I really enjoyed every second of the creation process.

Process:

After the audience was defined and parameters on which pictures and what text to be used in the flyer were set, sketches were drawn up. I was given the text, image, and logo. The final flyer was created in Adobe InDesign, using the hand drawn sketches as a guide. I placed the title on the image of a graduation cap which I created using the tools in InDesign. This gave the title more emphasis while creating visual hierarchy in the flyer. I left the body copy small and the same size and font (Oldstyle for clarity). Finally the triangle designs brought the entire flyer together, giving the flyer boundaries so the eye doesnt wonder off the page.

Learn how to scan images and optimize the clarity of the scanned image.

I scanned this picture of a clarinet first and resized it in Word to take up the entire page. Once the image was on the page, there was white space on either side in opposite corners. I decided to put the information in this space and not on top of the picture for better clarity of the words. The title and the question are symmetrical in that they are comprised of the same fonts, sizes, and color. Programs used: Microsoft Word, Epson Scanner, PDF2JPG.net (PDF converter).

How to gradually blend two images using masks.

First I found my two pictures, the sky and piano, to combine together. I thought about what text to put on their to make sure my message worked before going on. The background image of the sky had to be cropped to be 8.5 x 11. I did not need to change the color or lighting with Photoshop because my pictures were already how I wanted them. So I cropped the piano picture and added it on top of the sky background. I wanted to move the hot air balloon so I brought in the sky picture to Photoshop again and cropped out the hot air balloon. Then I brought it in to my template I was working on. Then I had two hot air balloons and I only wanted the one to be on the left. In this case I had to get rid of the little hot air balloon in the original image, so I took some sky from the background image and layered and blended it on top of the hot air balloon to make it disappear. I added my typography and moved my image of the piano and hot air balloon until it all looked like one composition. I also blended the piano a little more to start where the clouds start.

Learn to use a camera and change focus, use the cameras built in grid for creating images with the rule of thirds, and practice leading.

Process:

This project taught me about the 4 basic ways to edit a photograph. The four were levels, vibrancy, selective color, and sharpening. I particularly enjoyed using the vibrancy tool to edit the color. The saturation is usually what I tend to mess with first, but this can easily make my image look really fake really quick. I have never tried changing the vibrancy instead of the saturation so that was a learning experience. I enjoyed taking the first picture that was outside because of the icicles. I thought those were a very pretty sight and with the sky blue like it was, I quick grabbed a coat, put on some shoes, and went outside to take the picture.

A two sided, full color, folding brochure.

Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop

Learn how to use the guides in InDesign to make a working brochure. Wrap text around an image in InDesign.

Using Adobe InDesign, I mapped out the layout of my brochure using the guidelines. I split my layout into six sections. The first page had the two sections for the front of the brochure and the third fold was for the back. The other page was split into three sections that were all for the inside of the brochure. For this assignment I chose to advertise a website creation business. I broke down what the business does into three easy steps. I put the question, Need a Website? on the front so that the audience knew immediately what the brochure was about and that they would find out when they opened it, what to do if they needed a website. This is why the inside is broken down into three paragraphs that describe in more detail the three steps which are listed in bold so that the flow is easy to follow. I took a picture of the man who owns the business and used Photoshop to crop out the background. Then I added that image of him to the back of my brochure with the text that described him and made the text wrap around his image. In order to make that text more readable, I changed the background image to have an opacity of 47%. I created the logo in Illustrator using the pen tool and then I placed it into InDesign. The logo describes the website making business because the website is called, Musicwebsite.com. For this reason I choose to have a arrow (representing a computer mouse on a screen) and musical staff and notes coming out of
