So often Catholics who go through a separation or a divorce feel alone and isolated, even guilty, in the midst of the turmoil and adjustments they are facing. They mistakenly believe that the Catholic Church judges them harshly, so at the very time they need the most support, they pull away from the faith community. The program we use, the Catholics Divorce Survival Guide, helps form us as a community of support, guide us beyond misconceptions, and address healthy ways of healing and moving forward.
The program runs for twelve sessions on Wednesday evenings, beginning November 9 and continuing through January of the New Year. At the conclusion of these sessions, additional opportunities small group meetings, special presentations, etc. will be available to assist those dealing with single parenting, custody and other issues.
The program contains a video segment which introduces the theme of each week, followed by approximately one hour of discussion time, typically in small group format. The first sessions focus on healing by helping each person find his or her own inner balance (mentally, emotionally, psychologically, physically, and spiritually). The second set of sessions (5-8) address the devastating sense of powerlessness so many experience, helping participants move away from anger, bitterness, and resentment which can keep us mentally, emotionally, and spiritually weak. The last sessions (9-12) offer guidance on the kind of love, romance, and passion that is spiritually healing and whole.
The program includes a book for each participant, and a contribution of $15.00 helps cover St. Patricks costs in that respect. There is no cost beyond that, although donations are always welcome, andfor those in difficult financial circumstancespartial or full scholarships are available upon request. No one is ever excluded for financial reasons.
I have young children and cant afford to pay a babysitter. Is childcare available?
Yes, childcare is available but you must register in advance. We regret we do not have the capacity to offer evening childcare for infants. For more information and to register for childcare, call Carol LoPorto at St. Patrick Catholic Community (480) 998-3843.
