TapTurn

Install

Simplified signaling and more!

1. Park vehicle and remove key from ignition. Battery stays connected for this installation. 2. Locate original flasher by turning ON hazards. Find the source of ticking sounds in the dash area, removing access panels as needed. The flasher vibrates with each tick which helps locate by touch. 3. Once located, turn OFF hazard switch and center the signal stalk. 4. Remove original flasher: Pull, unclip, or slide the flasher from its mount to free it from the car. Some flashers pull straight out of a panel, disconnecting at the same time. Side mounted flashers must be unplugged using these steps: (1) gently spread flasher socket side clips away from the plug [tip: insert a toothpick to prevent clip from re-latching], (2) squeeze in the tab found on the side of the plug, (3) pull plug from flasher to disconnect it. 5. Connect TapTurn. For cars where the flasher pushes into a panel, first trim TapTurn socket side clips off using scissors then push TapTurn into the panel. Otherwise, align the flasher plug to TapTurn socket and push them together until both side clips and the locking tab all click into place, then mount TapTurn like the original flasher was found on the car reusing any original clips or hardware. 6. Test: turn ON hazards and 4-way flashers should show around the car. Move the signal stalk up or down to see new hazard modes.

Signaling
While driving, tap the signal stalk to send a series of blinks in a chosen direction. Blinking stops automatically after the set number of blinks have shown.

Tap the stalk briefly (up or down) allowing it to return to center. A good tap starts the first blink
and gets released before that blink expires. You can cancel a tapped series of blinks before they finish by tapping again in the signaled direction. You can change signaling direction during a tapped series by tapping or using the signal stalk in the other direction.

Use the signal stalk as you would normally for standard signaling. Holding or engaging the stalk longer than a tap results in signaling for as long as the stalk remains in signal position. Using the hazard button stops directional signaling immediately and begins hazard flashing. Check local regulations about using non-standard hazard flashing patterns for passenger vehicles on public roadways before using TapTurn modified flashers.

Hazard Flashers

New hazard modes work while the car is parked or driving. Modify hazard flashing patterns by using the signal stalk while hazards are switched ON, as follows:

Normal leave signal stalk centered for standard 4-way flashers. Wig wag engage signal stalk RIGHT for side-to-side alternating flashing. Slow motion engage signal stalk LEFT to slow flashing to half speed.

Tip: Put these instructions with your vehicle manual and store in the glove box!

Directional Park Lights

While parked and the ignition is OFF, fully engage the signal stalk left or right to illuminate signal lamps on that side of the vehicle. Dash indicators and exterior bulbs remain lit until the signal stalk returns to center. Starting the car cancels a directional park lights and resumes signal blinking functions. Using the hazard switch overrides directional parking and results in modified hazards. (Return signal stalk to center position for normal 4-way flashing.) Use the vehicles parking light switch as you would normally to illuminate parking lamps at all four corners. You may combine directional park lights with parking lamps.

Arrival & Departure Lighting

While parked and the ignition is OFF, using remote locking buttons illuminates all signal lamps for a period of time. Dashboard indicators and exterior bulbs remain lit until Arrival & Departure timer expires (default 1 minute). Remote locking visual confirmation flashes must be enabled in the car for this feature to work. Start the car, use the signal stalk, or use the hazard switch to cancel the timed period immediately. Timer adjustment: Reduce timer 12 seconds by starting the car while LEFT Directional Park Light is on. Reducing the Arrival & Departure timer below 24 seconds turns the feature off completely. Increase timer 12 seconds by starting the car while RIGHT Directional Park Light is on. Repeat adjustments until a convenient duration for Arrival & Departure lighting is reached.

Change Blink Count Setting

Set the number of tap blinks from 3 to 6, or turn OFF the tap feature. The new blink count setting remains in effect until changed again. Heres how: 1. Turn OFF the ignition, turn OFF hazard switch, and center the signal stalk. 2. Tap the signal stalk (up or down) to show the current blink count setting on 4-way flashers. o Dont see any flashes? The blink count is zero (OFF) increasing turns it back on, see below. o Only see a single flash? You held the tap too long release the stalk sooner next time. o Signal indicator stays lit? Youve engaged Directional Park Lights center the stalk, try again. 3. INCREASE setting by one (+1) by tapping the stalk RIGHT immediately after seeing the current setting displayed on flashers. The new setting then shows on flashers. Six (6) is the maximum setting. 4. DECREASE setting by one (-1) by tapping LEFT after seeing the current setting on flashers. Three (3) is the minimum setting. Decreasing below 3 shows no flashes and turns OFF tap signaling completely. Only conventional signaling is available when TapTurn has been turned OFF. Waiting longer than 5 seconds to tap after seeing current setting has no change effect and will just show the current setting again. Tap again sooner after seeing the display to change the setting.

Factory Reset
Restore TapTurn to all factory defaults by doing this: 1. Park the vehicle and start the engine (or just switch ignition to ON position). 2. Engage the signal stalk in LEFT position to begin signaling left, and leave it there. 3. Turn ON the hazard switch. Hazards begin flashing in slow motion. 4. Now turn OFF ignition. Hazards pause briefly then continue flashing in slow motion. 5. Return the signal stalk to center position and turn off hazard switch. Defaults are: Three (3) blink tap signaling, 1 minute Arrival & Departure timer, and no strobing effects.

StrobePack
StrobePack (if equipped) shows hazard flashes and signal blinks as a burst of pulsed light for maximum attention. You decide when strobed or regular blinks show by choosing a mode of operation. All TapTurn functions work the same way whether lights are strobed or not strobing just enhances the display.

Check local regulations about using non-standard hazard flashers and signal blinks for passenger vehicles on public roadways before enabling and using these TapTurn features. Choose a mode that allows strobing only when you want it to happen. One operating mode can be selected at a time, but you can change this mode easily whenever the car is parked. The four modes are:

STROBE MODES
A. OFF (default). Strobes never happen; all signaling and hazards show as regular blinks and flashes. B. Strobe Hazards while parked. All hazards (Normal, Wig wag, and Slow motion) will be strobed when the ignition is OFF (car not running). Turning ignition ON reverts all hazards to non-strobed operation. Signals are not strobed in this mode. C. Strobe Hazards any time . All hazards (Normal, Wig wag, and Slow motion) will be strobed regardless of ignition switch position. This mode allows strobed hazards while driving and parked. Signals are not strobed in this mode. D. Strobe Everything. All hazards (Normal, Wig wag, and Slow motion) and all signaling (conventional and tap signaling) show as strobed whenever they are used. Note: Modes B, C, and D also strobe the remote locking confirmation flashes. Directional Parking and Arrival & Departure lighting are never strobed.

Changing Strobe Mode

Advance to the next Strobe Mode in the sequence AB CD by doing these steps: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Park the vehicle. Turn ignition key to ON position. Engage the signal stalk in RIGHT position, and leave it there. (Right signaling begins.) Turn ON the hazard switch and leave it on. (Hazard wig wag pattern begins.) Turn ignition OFF. (Hazards will be doing strobed wig wag.) Return signal stalk to center position. (Hazards shift to strobed 4-way flashers.) Turn OFF the hazard switch.

Try out various hazard and signaling features to determine the current strobe mode based on what you are seeing. Repeat steps (1 7) above to advance to the next strobe mode; repeat until reaching the mode of your liking. Advancing beyond Mode D wraps back to Mode B. To turn OFF StrobePack (Mode A) do the Factory Reset (see page 2). All other TapTurn defaults are also restored by the reset so re-adjust any other settings, as required.
