TerraHypotheticaisanexhibitionofnewworkbycontemporaryartistLucasMaddockintheChrissieCotter Gallery,whichopensonWednesday9thofApril. TheshowisamajorsoloexhibitionforMaddockandshowcasesworksdevelopedoveratwoyearperiod. Astheartworldislockedintodebateabouttheethicalpracticesofitssponsors,TerraHypothetica exploresthemesofcollectiveresponsibility,idealismandautonomy,andhowtheseplayoutinthe hypotheticalterritoriesthatpoliticsandculturecontinuallynavigate.LucasMaddock. Thecollectionpresentsapowerfulandmultilayeredreflectiononcontemporarypolitics,whiletouchingon thedeeperpsychospiritualelementsoftheUtopianvision,anditsinevitabledemise. TessCullity,writer. TheremainingtangibleartefactoftheoriginalworkhasbeendecayinginasuburbanbackyardinMelbourneever since,andtheartistnowoffersthiseerilybeautifulremnantupforreconsideration,inthegalleryfoyer. TheChrissieCotterGalleryislocatedatPidcockStreet,Camperdown. AfreepublicopeningwillbeheldonWednesday9thfrom6pm8pm. TheexhibitionwillrunfromApril10ththroughapril20th ThegalleryisopenThursdaytoSunday,11am4pmorbyappointment. Admissionisfree. This project is supported by the Chrissie Cotter Gallery, the Marrickville Council Artist Residency Program, and by a Marrickville Council Independent Artist Grant. The project is also assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts, its arts funding and advisory body. Bio: Lucas Maddocks practice currently exploresthepotential ofsculpture,installation andspatial practiceasmodes of cultural dialogue and sociopolitical critique. Recent projects include collaborative urban sculpture project Apostle No.2 with artist Isaac Greener, which won both the Professional Development and Civic Choice awards in the Melbourne Prize for Urban Sculpture 2011 and was subsequently selected for the The McClelland Sculpture Survey Award 2011, as well as a solo exhibition Perpetual Assemblage / SEEN + HEARD at Kings ARI, Melbourne, in 2012.
