The Sochi Winter Olympic games of the previous year 2014 was very controversial as the climate wasnt exactly suitable for an Olympic winter games. Also there were a lot of politics involved as last time the Olympics were held in Russia the games were boycotted. Oddly enough there was the issue of picking a mascot for the Russians. Now the main issue that everyone had focused on was that the games were so expensive, costing the Russians 51 billion dollars. An interesting fact about the torch that was carried from Moscow to Sochi is that it even took an adventure into space!

Taliban Resurgence in Afghanistan and Pakistan

They reappeared in 2006 as they used the mountains to launch attacks after years of adapting to the mountains terrain. The Taliban use deadly methods to stop things including elections and such which would put them out of power. Mullah Omar and Osama Bin Laden (the two main leaders of the taliban) are the main reasons why the Americans had invaded Afghanistan. The threat of NATO in Afghanistan is felt by the Taliban as they bomb everything as a show of force to America and NATO. The invasion of Afghanistan and Pakistan has lead to many deaths of civilian, Pakistani, Taliban, American and more soldiers and insurgents.

Endangered Species and Wildlife Conservation

We as humans need to worry about essential species that we consume for our survival and possible extinction due to overconsumption. Illegal acts are continuing to occur after laws have been passed explaining that the consumption of certain species of animals are not allowed. All over the world this is happening and frankly it is getting out of hand as essential species go extinct only leads to one end result; humans dying off and going extinct ourselves. Human consumption isn't the only threat but the creation of metropolises and just general expansion will cause species to die off unfortunately.
