Youth Outreach

The Make It Happen Foundation was started by Liles and his wife, Erika, to foster an environment for young people to realize their full potential. Students from Baltimore City and County public schools participated in the program. B i z Te c h K i d s S u m m e r B u s i n e s s Academy is an interactive experience that offers youth an opportunity to explore new media to build on their educational & career endeavors. During the summer, youth participate in a 2 week interactive bootcamp learning the entrepreneurial process with a technology emphasis. Career Goals: Entrepreneur & Criminal Justice Lawyer How did BizTechKids help you? The BizTechKids Summer Business Academy has helped me in many ways. Ive learned how to create a working prototype for my idea while learning the steps to start and operate a business. I also was able to employ my leadership skills within my team and through the summer academy. Being the oldest of the camp, the students, camp counselors and the director would often ask me to assist my younger colleague. At times, I took action to make sure everyone was on the same page and attentive at the business academy. My leadership skills have increased as a result. How can EDAC help you now or in the future ? Offer leadership and mentorship as my team and I work turning the app into a business. Other comments: I would strongly suggest this program to all youth that are interested in entrepreneurship or tech development. Not only do you learn, you are able to apply what you have learned within and outside of the program. 6

Testimony
I am writing you to give you some feedback on my son and daughters experience at the Biztechkids camp this year. Let me first say that they both have been to many different types of camps including sports, educational and even business camps before. But this camp far exceeded our expectations. Mr. Muhammad and his staff ran a very professional camp from the initial communications concerning the camp, drop off and pick up and time spent with the kids each day. I noticed how much they enjoyed the camp from the start because they came home talking about what they did and how much they learned. I saw excitement in their eyes when they talked about their potential business ideas centered around a phone application. They started using terms like demographics, start up cost, profit etc. This is the first camp that they have come home from and proactively started to do homework so that they were prepared for the next day. In a short period of time, they learned about many business topics, how to program/ create phone apps and experienced quality field trips. On the last day, I was totally blown away when the kids presented their business ideas. I was not only proud of my kids but all the kids because they gave quality presentations illustrating their potential business using Powerpoint and phone app software. The presentations were inspiring and reminded us of how much potential our kids have when they are exposed to programs like this. I am very appreciative that Morgan is hosting a professional, affordable and quality camp such as Biztechkids. I hope that this program continues to be supported and continues for years to come for our youth. Sincerely, Cleveland Jarrett Parent of Cole and Mackenzie Jarrett

Alumni Support
Throughout the year, alumni participated in EDAC events by assisting students and giving back via resources and their time.

The Land of Kush, www.thelandofkush.com Owners: Gregory Brown (pictured to the left and MSU grad), Naijha Wright, Darius Waters Business Started: January 2011 Graduated from Morgan: 1992, BS Degree in Accounting Services received from EDAC ! Marketing analysis ! Business planning assistance !Interviewed on National Public Radio Value of EDAC to your business... EDAC has tremendously assisted with the business development of The Land of Kush by providing marketing strategies to help grow our customer base. These strategies were instrumental in assisting us with 25% increase in revenues for 2013. The importance of alumni giving back... How can we grow as a people, as communities, as organizations, if we do not share our experience and knowledge with those that come after us. As alumni, we must forward the cause of our institution's success by giving back whether by means of money, time, resources, or effort! The Land of Kush appeared in the November 2013 issue of Black Enterprise Magazine.

My name is Allison Powell and I am a senior studying Health Administration here at Morgan State University. I recently was able to attend the 2013 W.O.M.E.N.s Conference for the first time. This conference was amazing and I was able to meet some wonderful people. The guest speakers that were present at this conference were women who were dynamic and phenomenal. The stories that these women shared were inspiring and monumental. I am so grateful that I was able to attend this conference and I can't wait to see what next year will bring. Best Regards, Allison Powell Vice President Eta Sigma Gamma, Delta Epsilon Chapter Morgan State University

I think the one on one sessions were a nice touch." It gave both parties to engage in meaningful conversation about various business planning strategies, issues, accounting and tax questions. " To me this " was much better than just being an exhibitor because people were scheduled to meet with us at specic times. My time is valuable and this (resource providers) was an e!ective use of that time especially on a Saturday.
