Benefits
Increases input/output. Use FOUNDATION fieldbus I/O instead of Classic I/O to increase information flow. Take advantage of FOUNDATION fieldbus digital communications to access additional information from your smart devices. Get more information over one wire than over multiple wires with Classic I/O. Takes advantage of all smart device capabilities. Increase your ability to communicate with your devices using DeltaV FOUNDATION fieldbus I/O. Field device status is updated continuously using FOUNDATION fieldbus I/O. For multi-variable devices, all process variables are available on the single fieldbus connection. Facilitates multi-drop 16 devices on one port. Save on wiring expenditures by installing FOUNDATION fieldbus I/O in the field, close to the actual field devices.1 Mounting the controller with the I/O further reduces your wiring costs by eliminating the need for long runs of multi-cores. Multi-dropping up to 16 devices on one port reduces your wiring expenses substantially. The integrated design of the FOUNDATION fieldbus I/O can eliminate the need for marshaling panels. This saves you even more. Features secure uninterrupted control. A DeltaV system offers back-up link active schedule (LAS) to ensure secure control when upgrading a card or in the case of card failure. LAS control is automatically transferred to the backup device when upgrading or experiencing card failure. Control is automatically transferred back to the H1 Interface Card when the system detects a new card. This process requires no user interaction. Provides third-party device support. The DeltaV system provides third-party device support for devices that have successfully passed rigorous testing by Emeson Process Management. This testing ensures reliability and safety and allows you to benefit from the open fieldbus architecture when selecting field devices. The tables listing the supported fieldbus devices follow on page 3.

Additional Benefits
Increase your process control systems level of sophistication using FOUNDATION fieldbus I/O. You are already aware of the increased input/output capabilities and improved communication with your smart devices. Now go one step further and use AMSinside with your FOUNDATION fieldbus I/Ofrom the control room. Using AMSinside, access all of your process information from the FOUNDATION fieldbus device database to configure, monitor, and troubleshoot all your smart devices. Using AMSinside you can access status and diagnostic data from smart devices and monitor their performance. Increase product quality and minimize unplanned downtime with this dynamic application. Improve the productivity and profitability of your process control system. Fieldbus devices not manufactured by Emerson Process Management divisions are categorized as third-party devices. The DeltaV system provides third-party device support for devices that have successfully passed rigorous testing by Emerson Process Management and are registered by the Fieldbus Foundation. This allows you to benefit from the open fieldbus architecture when selecting field devices.

Product Description and Specification

The FOUNDATION fieldbus I/O subsystem includes:

H1 card fieldbus power supply fieldbus junction block fieldbus terminator fieldbus power conditioner.
The I/O card is enclosed in a DeltaV-designed common form factor that plugs into the I/O interface carrier. The housing is clearly labeled with the enclosed I/O card type. Clearly visible LEDs on the

top of the I/O card display the power, error, and status to the two channels included in the I/O card. The Fieldbus I/O Card meets ISA G3 corrosion specifications by using superior electronic components and conformal coating. The fieldbus junction blocks provide a convenient means of connecting the field devices to the fieldbus segment. They include provision for up to six field devices, homerun connection, and connection to either the next block or a terminator. The connections are made with plug-and-socket connectors for fast and easy field installation. Cord sets are available for hooking up your field devices to the blocks.

Fieldbus technology enables multiple intrinsically safe devices to connect on one communications segment. This means that one control system can use multiple-vendor devices. This is known as interoperability. The DeltaV H1 card schedules communications between the devices to implement control strategies. The DeltaV system provides initialization, diagnostics, and run-time monitoring for each segment. Depending on the control strategy, the DeltaV system either executes the control strategy or, if control resides in the fieldbus devices, displays the ongoing parameters.

The fieldbus power supply provides a balanced power feed to the field devices. It is available in both an intrinsically safe and a standard version. The power supplies include one bus terminator that may be switched in.

The Fieldbus Power Conditioner provides for redundant 24V power supplies to be connected to a fieldbus segment. It provides energy limiting and filtering meeting fieldbus and non-incendive field wiring requirements. The Fieldbus Power Conditioner requires +24VDC isolated input power. Circuitry on the conditioner filters the DC power as required per the FOUNDATION fieldbus 31.25kbit/s Physical Layer Profile Specification. It provides energy-limiting circuitry as required for non-incendive field wiring in a Class 1 Division 2 area. It also provides a custom-dedicated H1 fieldbus card input. The Fieldbus Power Conditioner utilizes five terminal blocks. Two 2-position terminal blocks provide primary and secondary input power connections. Two 3-position removable terminal blocks provide fieldbus power connections to the segment. A 3position terminal block provides an H1 input connection . The Fieldbus Power Conditioner can be DIN-rail mounted.

DC Power Considerations The available current to power a field device depends on the length and resistance characteristics of the fieldbus cabling used. The table below shows the maximum distance for a given load on the fieldbus power conditioner. The following assumptions are made about the segment: 1. Each device has an average load of 20 mA. 2. The minimum device voltage = 9 VDC 3. Fieldbus Type A 18 GA cable @ 22ohms/km

4. Devices are connected on the end of the cable opposite the Fieldbus Power Conditioner. Note: To prevent interaction between segments, each segment must be powered from an independent isolated power supply. Each port on the FOUNDATION fieldbus H1 card constitutes a separate segment. If multiple power conditioners are desired on a single segment, it is acceptable to connect two power conditioners to a common 24-volt supply.

Distance per Load on Power Conditioner Maximum Distance (Meters) 1900 1900 1900 1330 830 470 220 30 If your segment layout is different, it will have different restrictions and limitations. Use the table below and the formula Vdrop = Load Current * Loop Number of Devices 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 Load (mA) 20 40 60 80 100 120 140 160 Resistance to design for your application. The sum of Vdrop plus the minimum device voltage must be < the Minimum Compliance Voltage for the segment.
