Origami Pyramid Head

Donya Quick Difficulty: low intermediate. Recommended paper: tissue foil for best shaping. This design makes use of color changes. The side of the paper shown as the colored side will be the color of the helmet. The white side of the paper will be used for the body and clothing. The shape of the helmet and clothing are based on the movie and/or Silent Hill: Homecoming versions of the character. Begin with the paper white side up. 1 2 3

Step 1 3: crease the paper as shown, and then fold the top tip down to the center. Fold the sides down behind. 4 5 6 7

Step 4 7: lift the colored tip outwards and fold the model in half. Asymmetrical squash fold and fold the new flap down. Asymmetrical squash fold again at a different angle to the previous fold.

Step 8 12: fold and unfold to make a guide crease, then fold the tip of the top flap to the crease made in step 8. Fold the edge over again to the same crease, then fold back along the crease itself. Fold the upper flap down. This flap will become the arm. 13 14 15

Step 13 15: repeat steps 8 12 on the other side of the model. Spread squash the flap going from the tip of the arm up to the top left corner of the model. With most paper, this spread squash should not go all the way up to the top left corner (to avoid strain that could split the paper unexpectedly at later steps), but may be better left going only close to the corner. Once the spread squash is finished, fold the excess paper inside the model to hide it.

Step 16 18: repeat steps 14 15 on the other side of the model. Inside reverse fold the large flap at the bottom through the center of the model. As with step 14, the pivot point for the inside reverse fold may be best done only near the top left corner, rather than directly intersecting it. Fold the triangular tip inside to hide it. This flap should lie flush against the other layers of the paper when the model is opened from the back.

Step 19 21: crimp at the back to move the helmet down and back. The pivot point should be exactly at the top left corner. Inside reverse fold the back flap to narrow the neck area (this paper will be mostly hidden later to shorten the neck), then inside reverse fold again to keep the colored side of the paper from showing.

Step 22 24: zigzag/pleat the neck inside the model (the mountain fold should be at the bottom of the pleat). The model should be opened to be mostly flat except for the helmet when this is done to avoid strain on the paper. Fold the excess paper at the back inside the model and repeat on the other side. 25 26

Step 25 26: zigzag/pleat at the waist (the mountain fold should be at the bottom of the pleat), then shape the models helmet, arms, and clothing. After shaping, the helmet and torso should not have gaps at the back, but for best standing posture the bottom should remain open at the back.
