Philosophy: The Lake Norman Swim League seeks to promote good sportsmanship and team work, have fun, orient swimmers to competition properly, and improve swimming skills in the community. Membership: The League shall consist of those teams that agree to abide by the Leagues philosophy, rules, participate in league administrative responsibilities, and submit dues as required. Expanding the League membership will require a majority vote of current members. Rule changes shall require a unanimous vote of current members. The Teams are: The Harbour The Point/Trump Winslow Bay Morrison Plantation The Farms Abbreviations HARB PLGC WBAY MPLA FARM

Eligibility for the LNSL: A swimmer must be 18 years of age and younger and must be club members and/or swim team members as defined by individual club policies. For those clubs that maintain separate swim team memberships, rates should not be under $130 per swimmer each season. Coaches and/or assistants are eligible to swim if eligibility guidelines are met. A swimmers age as of June 1st shall determine his/her age group for the individual events for that season. Administrative Committee: The League Administrative Committee shall consist of representatives from each team and shall be responsible for all matters relating to the effective operation of the League. Each team shall have one vote in decision-making. Officers will consist of President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Responsibilities will include schedules, awards, computer forms and training, officials training, and others as needed. Job Descriptions of Administrative Committee Positions: President: 1. Conducts and serves as parliamentarian for Scheduled LNSL meetings. 2. Schedules & notifies members of all upcoming meetings 3. Assures adherence to LNSL rules & is responsible for amendments to rules. 4. Should not be a current League coach. 5. Coordinates the championship meet and distributes championship meet duties. Vice President: 1. Decides questions on LNSL rules in the absence of the president. 2. Schedules stroke and turn clinics, safety clinics and coaches meetings prior to summer season. 3. Helps coordinate the Championship meet Secretary: 1. Records minutes of all LNSL meetings: 2. Oversees distribution of LNSL rulebook. 3. Emails minutes to representatives within one week of the last meeting. Treasurer: 1. Works with president in preparing the budget: 2. Signs all checks, is responsible for checking/saving account, and maintains expense record for each committee. 3. Orders heat ribbons, place ribbons, and championship ribbons for all teams. There are no formal periods for rotation of positions. Any potential changes will be discussed annually during a nomination period at the September League meeting during which reps can ask to change or be nominated to change positions.

League Dues & Team Rosters: Each team shall pay the following dues annually: A $150 team fee and $7.00 per swimmer. League dues should be paid to the League Treasurer by June 5th, checks payable to LKN Swim League. Rosters should be submitted to the League President also by June 5th. *If a team has a junior program consisting of 6&U swimmers who will not be competing in the swim meets, these swimmers do not have to pay dues. Subsequently, these swimmers will only compete in the junior meet. If a junior swimmer should move up onto the competition team during the season, or a new swimmer should join the team, then his/her name should be added to the team roster and $7 should be paid to the treasurer by the Friday before the last dual meet. MEETS The League Administrative Committee will approve the schedule by the February planning meeting. Timeline for meets: Meets will be held on Monday evenings. 4:45 The Away team gains access to the pool deck. Warm-Ups: 5:00-5:20 Home team 5:20-5:40 Away team 5:40 Officials meetings 6:00 Meet begins In the event of inclement weather prior to a meet, the Home Team will be responsible for contacting the Visiting Team and deciding about canceling or rescheduling. During a delay, the meet will start no later than 7:00. Ultimately, the Pool Manager or Head Lifeguard has the responsibility to decide whether to continue the meet due to the inclement weather. When rescheduling, if possible, the reschedule date is the next night on Tuesday. In the event of inclement weather during a meet, the team reps and coaches from each team will confer about continuing, canceling, or rescheduling. Team reps and Head Coaches will decide which events to swim and in what order. If they cannot agree then they revert to the default relay thru backstroke rule. If the meet is called off due to inclement weather, the meet can be considered complete and can be scored as long as all events leading up to and including event 43 (15-18 Boys 50 Backstroke) have been completed. Entries: Each swimmer can be entered into a maximum of 6 events. 1 IM, 3 individual stroke events and 2 relays (a swimmer can swim in their own age group relay and in 1 swim up relay). Individual Medleys are limited to only 2 heats for the boys and 2 heats for the girls for each age group. Each team can enter 6 swimmers in each age group for boys and 6 for girls. Swimmers must swim in their own age groups for individual events, but may swim up for relays. A swimmer can swim on a second relay only to fill a vacancy. (To enter a relay team, there must be at least 1 person actually in that age group.) Relays: Teams may enter multiple relay teams in one event and must designate them as TEAM A TEAM B etc. In relays that start in the water, the swimmer must have at least one hand touching the wall before releasing for their segment. Relay Rule: The spirit of the relays is to create a relay for each age group as long as there is at least 1 swimmer in that age group. If you have one swimmer in an age group, they can be joined by 3 swim ups to create 1 relay. If you have 2 swimmers in an age group, they can be joined by 2 swim ups to create 1 relay. If you have three swimmers they can be joined by 1 swim up to create 1 relay. If you have four swimmers in the same age group then you can fill only 1 relay team. If you have 5 swimmers in the same age group then you can use 3 swim ups to complete 2 relay teams. If you have 4, 8, 12 (multiples of 4) in any age group 8 yrs. and above, then you may not use swim ups for that group because each swimmer in that age group must swim. There should only be a maximum of three swim ups per age group relay. Any more than three would violate the relay rule. Swim ups can swim on any relay team A, B, Cetc.

Entry Submission: 6:00pm Friday (for a Monday meet): The visiting Team shall submit entries to the Home Team. If the entries are not submitted by the deadline, the team will be penalized 25 points per 24 hour period that they are late. The Home Team will merge the meet. 1:00pm Sunday: The Home team will provide the Away Team with the EHL report. If the report is not submitted on time then the home team will be penalized 25 points. 1:00 pm Monday: Scratches, substitutions, and additions should be submitted to the home team computer contact. 5:15 pm Monday: Present any additional scratches and relay changes to the computer table. Other changes, substitutions or additions will be considered on a per case basis. Monday at the end of the meet: The home team shall provide an electronic copy of the meet (Meet Manager back up file) to the visiting team by midnight. Lane Assignments: Lane assignments shall be odd lanes for the Home Team and even lanes for the Visiting Team. Strict lane assignments should be for fastest heats only and the lanes should be filled to minimize the number of heats. Heats: Heats shall be arranged from slowest to fastest. Heat Sheets: 12 heat sheets will be provided to the coach or team representative of the visiting team on arrival at the meet. Heat sheets will be sold for $2 at regular season meets and $5 at the championship meet. Stroke Rules: USA Swimming rules are used to judge strokes. Swimmers will only be disqualified for infractions listed on the LKN Swim League DQ sheet. During the dual meets, swimmers in 6 & under events shall be given warnings in an effort to help them learn the strokes correctly, however at the championship meet they will be judged in the same way as other age groups and therefore subject to disqualification. Starter Rules: In the event that a swimmer or a relay team is not on the blocks when the starter is ready to start the heat, the starter will wait no longer than 30 seconds for the swimmer or relay team to arrive at the blocks. Officials: Volunteers needed from each team Home Team Visiting Team 1 Meet Director 1 Assistant Clerk of Course 1 Head Timer 1 Stroke and Turn Judge 1 Starter/Announcer 6 Timers 2 Clerk of Course 1 Ribbon Labeler 1 Stroke and Turn Judge Child Gatherers (appropriate # to gather your team) 6 Timers Computer representative (optional) 1 Ribbon Labeler 1 Runner (your runner can also be your head timer) Child Gatherers (appropriate # to gather your swimmers) The Meet Director is responsible for overseeing the entire meet. Teams must still bring manual watches in case they are needed if the Dolphin system fails. (6 watches from the visiting team and 13 from the home team) The home team will provide the Head Timer, starting and announcing system, a computer for scoring, awards labels and containers for ribbons, a Clerk of Course area with numbered chairs or benches. The League will provide teams with necessary forms and ribbons

Computer Software: Each Team will purchase their own Team Manager software and will maintain the most up to date version. The League will purchase 2 Meet Manager disks for the teams to share. The league president will hold onto these disks and lend them out to each team when needed. The league will purchase any software needed for the championship meet.

The final decision will be made by a vote from the Administrative Committee. The LNSL board will constitute the Administrative Committee. Ties: In the event of a first place tie, each swimmer will be awarded first place, the first and second place points will be added together (5+3=8) and half will be given to each, giving each swimmer 4 points.
