Democratic Alliance march

As the campaign of political parties heat up before the election, the Democratic Alliance marched in Burgersfort on Tuesday from the old municipal building to the new building of the Greater Tubatse Local Municipality. The purpose of the march was tro hand over a memorandum to the mayor, Councillor Nkosi Josias Mahlake, containing grievances about services in various outlying villages. According to the memorandum the countrys Constitution recognises that everyone is entitled to rights that include the right of access to housing and the right of access to sufficient water. The momrandum further states that local government must make provision of electricity supply, water and sanitation and municipal roads. The residents of Malaeneng and Mapareng (both Ward 1) and Phiring (Ward 26), GaMashamotane (Ward 25), Ga- MMotodi (Ward 22) and Modimolle (Ward 8), say in the mmemorandum of the DA that they had been denied these rights. The demand electricity in their village and houses, proper access bridges, proper roads and that proper water and sanitation be installed in their villages. Mayor Mahlake duly received the memorandum at the municipal buildings security control gate before the marchers dispersed.

You dont have to lose everything

Times are tough and many people are on the brink of losing their homes or vehicles as they become unable to pay their monthly expenses. If this is the case, debt review and debt counselling are options available to help ease the burden. You have to be employed with a monthly income, but the Debt Counsellor will assist you in compiling a budget that will allow you to repay your debt as well as pay for things such as food, electricity and transport. The Debt Counsellor will also, on your behalf negotiate better repayment terms with the companies you owe money to. While you are under debt review the bank will not be able to simply take back your home or car, but it is important to start the process of debt review as soon as you see that you are unable to make the required payments. Dont wait for legal action to be taken against you. It may be too late then. Make sure you use the services of a registered Debt Counsellor as you will make payments that must be going to the repayment of your debt. If the Debt Counsellor is not NCR registered you may find out that he or she disappeared with your money, leaving you worse off than you were before. You dont have to lose it all, help is available!

Office in Lydenburg now also open!

R3000 million of hope

As the counrty is celebrating 20 years of democracy and freedom, the community of Sekhukhune also have a reason to smile. The much anticipated De Hoop Dam has officially been opened by President Jacob Zuma and a glittering function was held at Ga-Malekane Village on Monday. In his speech the president highlighted the significance of the dam and said that the dam will benefit all the communities of Sekhukhune, Lephalale and Capricorn municipalities. He said that the dam is the 13th largest dam in the county and will be a relief to the village communities of Limpopo who some used to depend on boreholes and others travelled long distances to fetch water. He further said that the dam will provide the local mines with water and will boost economic growth of the area. Indeed South Africa is a better place to live in and there is a good story to tell about water provision, health and education as more and more people is accessing government services than it was prior 1994. The quality of lives of ordinary South Africans have improved as more and more students are admitted in universities and millions of learners get free education and meals at schools than before, he said. He further urged the community to go and vote on 7 May as it is their democratic right. Some of the communities said that they are glad the dam project has been completed. Solly Moholo and Winnie Mashaba were some of the artists that entertained the crowd. The local poet and praise singer Lesufi le Dithala Bodiba recited a praise song about the president, to the crowds roar for some more.

Kholofelo Mankge from GaMalekana said: I feel happy that government has solved the lack of water in the area. It was very difficult for us. Children were always pushing wheelbarrows to fetch water instead of studying. We used to travel about 8km to the river to fetch water which we shared with animals.

Jane Choma from Ga Mampuru Re tla ikhutsa go ya dinokeng go kga meetse le go hlatswa. Go be go sa bolokega go bo mme go ya dinokeng. Re a leboga se mmuso wa rena o re diretseng sona ka go aga De Hoop gore re be le meetse. Meetse a bohlokwa kudu maphelong a rena.

Johannes Monama from Roosenekal said: I feel honoured to have been part of the water project. The project created many job opportunities and other spinoffs that made us able to provide for our families.

Marble Mokwana from Ga Rantho Village: We used to get water from the nearby river to drink and cook. Thanks God the water is not contaminated with cholera. Today I feel so happy that government has launched the dam so that we can have access to clean water.

Mojuta Maboko from GaRantho I am so happy that we will now have access to clean running water. We fetched water from wells and it was very difficult when it does not rain. We feel that our pride has been restored. I thank the government for ensuring that people have access to basic services such as water. Water is life.

Thelma Mothapo from Jane Furse. I appreciate that government has finally opened the dam for people to access water. I wish people could access the water today. Peoples lives are at risk by sharing water with animals.

Boxers Win-A-Wedding couple tie the knot

On 1 March Phuti Moloto and Solly Letswalo celebrated their wedding day. It was not only special because they were sealing their love for each other through marraige, but also because they were the winners of the Win-A-Wedding competition Boxer stores in conjunction with Clere ran. They won a wedding worth R100 000. Customers purchasing a 400ml Clere Hand & Body Lotion for him and one for her at Boxer could enter the competition which started in July 2013. It was an incredible moment when the panel announced that we were teh winners. We both had mixed emotions, we were so nervous that we were sweating but we were also both so excited, says Phuti. The couple shared five happy years together before wanting to take the next step in their relationship. Having selflessly placed the needs of their family before their own, the couple were unable to save towards their dream white wedding. The Win-A-Wedding competition was a saving grace for this hopeful young couple. Their story tugged on the heartstrings of the judging panel and meeting them in person exposed their humbleness and true love for each other. This solidified the judges choice and proved to be the right one. The rules of the competition stated that the winning couple would need to have their wedding by March 2014 adn that was not an issue for this couple. The ceremony took place at the Mekete Guest HOuse, also known as the Golden Rest Lodge, in Polokwane. The wedding was graded by the couples close family and friends as well as representatives from Boxer. Seeing the bridal couple, Phuti and Solly exchange their vows in front of hundreds of guests at a dreamlike venue...tears of happy emotion welling up in both of their eyes made Boxer and Cleres Win-A-Wedding competition an event to remember. We are all about changing our customers lives for the better and we have done just that with this competition. We make the impossible, possible, said Andrew Mills, Boxer Marketing Director. The success of this collaboration was evident through the number of entries and sales but was possible through the strong professional relationship shared between the two concerned parties. Their common drive to serve their customers and give them their very best is what made Boxer and Amka/Clere the perfect fit. The day was everything they wanted it to be. Our drea day became a reality; and we got to celebrate our marriage with the whole of South Africa. Todays wedding was everything we could have hoped for and so much more. We would like to thank Boxer, Amka Clere and Bona magazine for making today possible - you have made our special day happen. For real! the couple said. (Information & Photographs: Boxer) The couple tied the knot in a beautiful garden wedding fit for a king and queen. Walking down the red carpet after exchanging their vows.

Fencing in progress
Fencing the agricultural land of the Tswelopele Cooperative Farms started this week. The project is being revived with the help of the Sekhukhune Development Agency (SDA). Last week the SDA held a meeting with the farmers explaining the role of the SDA, the role of the cooperative, the role of the strategic partners as well as the possible way forward. The focus will for the moment fall on a piece of land on the Ga-Motodi side of the road to Praktiseer.

Community group learns from Fire Station

Bakoni Phuthi Socio-Economic Fire Fighting is a community group at Riba Cross near Burgersfort that works towards community based fire fighting in rural areas that are located large distances from fire stations, in this case, the Sekhukhune District Fire Station in Burgersfort. A shift manager at this fire station, Phillip Kgapane, got word about the group, visited them and subsequently invited them to the Fire Station in Burgersfort for a workshop on Wednesday. We cannot employ these people, nor do we have a budget to train them, but we can show them what we do and how we do it, so that is why they send a delegation here today, he told the newspaper. Members of the group were divided into two teams during the course of their visit and competed against each other in various activities that fire fighting personnel do as part of their daily duty, giving them a new perspective on their particular field of interest.

Promises, promises...do you believe them?

Political parties are heating up their campaigns to get South African voters to look their way on election day. This means that they are proclaiming what they stand for and what they aim to achieve with the power the people will be giving them. Platinum Gazette asked readers whether they listen to the various parties promises and if they believe what they are being told during this campaigning period.

Mr Peter Mthombeni (right) said: They cannot keep their promises. If they get into power theyll say We need time, or We need to settle into the work, we are new. Theyll also blame the previous government. That is what the ruling party is doing now and that is what anyone that may take over from them will do. No party will be able to keep their promises. Mr Patson Sekgobela said: I believe some of the parties will be able to keep their promises.

Ms Elizabeth Motsamai and Ms Mamajara Majara said: There is nobody who is like Mandela. All of them are making promises they cannot fulfill. Were not at all being influenced for our votes by their promises. We do listen but we dont believe any promises. With them is Kennedy. Mr Elvis Nkuna said: They just make empty promises. If they get the votes while they were staying at a rural place, theyll move away into town once they are in power. Right now Ive given up on listening to any party, especially the ruling party. There are just too many unfulfilled promises.

Mr Stephen Mphego said: I do believe what they are promising, but we need to support them if they are going to achieve it. If we keep on blaming and pointing fingers it is not helping. Especially those parties who have been in the field a long time can achieve their promises with the help of the community. The smaller parties must be careful. You cannot be born today and know more than your father. Look at America, there is just 2 parties. We must discourage this thing of many political parties. We lose focus because of it.

Mr Prince Shongwe and Mr Collins Zamba said: We think they exaggerate their promises. They just want to get your vote. All the parties just want to get into power. Mnr. Micky Joubert s: Nee, almal praat dieselfde dinge maar na die verkiesing gebeur daar niks. Ek kyk nuus en volg wat hulle s maar glo nie die beloftes nie.

Ms Rachel Swanepoel and Ms Caroline Wetdewich said: We listen to the parties, but we dont believe anything they say because of past experiences. When they get the seat in parliament they dont deliver. They are concentrating on mocking each other instead of focusing on the people.

Mr Edmund Maroga and Mr Isaiah Idio said: In terms of campaigning their promises are worth nothing. They just want to convince people to vote for them.

Ms Sabinah Mpuru said: I believe in SAMEBAs promises. It will free the people. Things will be better with them. Ive read all the parties manifestos, posters etc. but SAMEBA is different. It is better.

Mr Leonard Lekhoane said: I always listen to them but they are always lying. Now there is the DA and EFF as well. They are all liars. They all just want to eat. If they get seats in parliament theyll do the same as the ANC. I read everything about them and listen but they Ms Dimakatso Ngwenya and Ms Deborah Selahle cannot make their promises come said: We think they make promises because they want our votes, but we dont see it being delivered. We true. E.g. some promise free education for everyone, but there is think all political parties are the same. None of them no such thing as free education for will deliver. They just promise. We listen to them, but whites. Why do they have to pay for we dont believe anymore. their childrens education? So they are lying! Left: Mnr Abel Madigage s: Politics is eintlik n besigheid. Dis soos om tamaties op straat te verkoop. Elke man wil wen dan sal jy sien hoe gebruik hulle ons geld. Kyk net hoe n duur beeskraal het hulle met staatsgeld gebou daar by Nkandla. I am not going to vote. To go and and queue for five hours to vote? No! Youll queue for nothing.

Mr Solomon Thankge and his wife Elizabeth said: They make empty promises. They promised us water and electricity but in the end we did not get anything. We read the posters and then on voting day well choose the one we like. Well decide for ourselves on the day as our vote is our secret. Maybe the EFF can do something? We are hoping for something better than what the ruling party gave us. Today we have something to eat and tomorrow we dont have anything while we are with them. With them is Modipadi Bontle. Left: Mr Martin Mokhele said: No, I dont believe any partys promises. It is now 20 years and Ive still not received water and electricity. I listen to them and I read about them, but I dont believe anything.

Ms Sindi Mashego said: All of them will say anything to get a vote but none of them will deliver. I dont believe any of the things they say. They are wasting their money on posters. My eyes are tired, I dont even read it.

Mr Lord Mashaba said: All the politicians are the same. They all lie. I dont read their posters or believe them.

Right: Mr Douglas Magabane said: I listen to them, but I dont believe. Those people are playing politics where poli- stands for many any and tics are actually tricks. They make empty promises and loot state money and that is my tax money! It just boils down to who you know on that gravy train. Look how much some of those in government are spending on wining, dining and entertainment.
