The essay herein contained is the last labor to which Edgar Cayce put his hand. The color chart was returned to me with corrections in his own hand aw wardly written. !ith it was a note" also written in longhand. #$ cannot use my typewriter"% it said. #$ ha&e lost the use o' my le't arm and my right leg is numb. $ presume $ ha&e had a slight stro e.% That was in September. A month be'ore" on my porch here in Clearwater" while we watched the porpoises sporting in the (ul' o' )e*ico and admired the spectacular sunsets" the boo let was planned. The human aura was one o' our 'a&orite sub+ects o' con&ersation, whene&er we got together $ -uestioned him about his ability to see colors emanating 'rom persons" and he always had some new and interesting anecdotes concerning this strange power" which because it 'unctioned while he was 'ully conscious" in many" many ways intrigued him more than his gi't 'or gi&ing readings. At least it entertained him more at the moment it was ta ing place" 'or despite all the readings he ga&e" he ne&er heard one. .uring all o' the most interesting portions o' his li'e he was asleep. !e were in the process o' wor ing out a new publication program during this &isit" and it occurred to me that a short but instructi&e article on auras would be help'ul to members o' the Association" particularly i' it carried )r. Cayce/s interpretation o' the colors" wor ed out o&er a long period o' years by patient trial and error. $ made the suggestion to him" and he ga&e me the usual answer0that he didn/t now enough about the sub+ect" had no bac ground in it" etc." ad in'initum. 1e had a &ery low opinion o' anything he said while awa e. $ then put it di''erently. $ as ed him i' he would collaborate with me" and since he apparently had not the power to re'use me anything $ as ed 2any more than he had the power to re'use anyone else3 he said yes. !e set to wor immediately" right there on the porch" and $ began ma ing notes. By the time the te*t was ready he had returned to Virginia Beach" had 'allen ill" and was at Roano e resting. Early in .ecember he was brought home to the house on Arctic Crescent. There" on the night o' 4anuary 5" 6789" he passed away.

$ remember him 'rom those August days 'or so many things. 1e was so thin and tired and wist'ul. :et his 'ace lighted with transcendent +oy when he saw me enter the water and slosh away on my own" swimming on my bac in the warm" still water. 1e lo&ed the Australian pines in 'ront o' our cottage" and wanted to ha&e some sent to Virginia Beach" to plant along the la e behind the house. 1e was disappointed when he learned that they would not 'lourish that 'ar north. #Then $ will ha&e to come down here"% he said. #:ou 'ind a place" and we will get it together. $ can rest here. $ dreamed the other night that $ was on a train coming to ;lorida. $ had retired" and was going to li&e here.% $ urged him to remain longer with me, $ pressed him to gi&e up the interminable" punishing hours he put in at the mounting stac s o' correspondence. $ suggested that he spend his time 'ishing and gardening" e*cept 'or the periods when the readings were gi&en. But these re-uests were to him unreasonable. $n the letters which came to him were tales o' mis'ortune and su''ering. Each was a cry 'or help. 1e would ha&e heard it as well in the garden or on the doc . $' he could ha&e answered it at once he would not ha&e minded so much. But when he had to put o'' the reading0at 'irst 'or wee s" then 'or months" then 'or a year or more" his heart was hea&y and his mind became numb with the burden o' his helplessness. Though he stayed asleep longer than e&er be'ore and pushed his output o' readings to unprecedented heights" he could ma e but a small dent in the pile o' re-uests. $t was this more than anything which bro e him. <n the day he le't we dro&e with him as 'ar as =a eland. Along the way we stopped and ate a picnic lunch. Together we rehearsed our plans> publication and research were gradually to wor their way to the 'ore o' the Association/s wor " gi&ing to e&eryone the wisdom and instruction o' the readings. (radually he was to slac en his own wor until it was de&oted mainly to general readings on research sub+ects and 'or guidance and instruction. $n this way the best that he had to gi&e would be a&ailable to all. That way he would li&e long and help e&eryone" we were sure. At =a eland he stepped 'rom the car and turned to smile at me and s-uee?e my hand. #!ell" when we meet again we/ll ha&e e&erything wor ed out 'ine"% he said. <ctober was the date we had set. 1e would return then 'or a longer rest.

But the dreams that came to him here in our sunshine" and the whispers he heard in the Australian pines" were promises 'rom another land. 1e will rest there" and +ust as he said" when we meet again we/ll ha&e e&erything wor ed out 'ine. Two days a'ter his death the proo's o' this boo let arri&ed. $n them is his 'inal message" a plea 'or 'aith" hope" and charity" and abo&e all" the courage and wisdom to engage in what Stephen )ac@enna described as" #an acti&e mental li'e" with a little lo&e to warm it.% ;or the burden o' all the readings is the necessity 'or man to ta e up his cross0/ A)ind is the builder> nowledge not li&ed becomes sin, in e&ery person o' whate&er station loo not 'or things to critici?e" but 'or something you adore in your Creator, 'or you will not enter the ingdom o' hea&en" e*cept leaning upon the arm o' someone you ha&e helped.% 0Thomas Sugrue Clearwater Beach" ;la." 4anuary 69" 6789.

EVER S$BCE $ can remember $ ha&e seen colors in connection with people. $ do not remember a time when the human beings $ encountered did not register on my retina with blues and greens and reds gently pouring 'rom their heads and shoulders. $t was a long time be'ore $ reali?ed that other people did not see these colors, it was a long time be'ore $ heard the word aura" and learned to apply it to this phenomenon which to me was commonplace. $ do not e&er thin o' people e*cept in connection with their auras, $ see them change in my 'riends and lo&ed ones as time goes by0sic ness" de+ection" lo&e" 'ul'illment0these are all re'lected in the aura" and 'or me the aura is the weather&ane o' the soul. $t shows which way the winds o' destiny are blowing. )any people are able to see auras, many ha&e had e*periences similar to mine0not nowing 'or many years that it was something uni-ue. <ne o' my 'riends" a lady" who is a member o' the Association told me this> All during my childhood $ saw colors in connection with people" but did not reali?e that it was uncommon. <ne day the appearance o' a woman in our neighborhood struc me as odd" though $ could not 'or the moment see anything strange about her. !hen $ got home it suddenly struc me that she had no colors about her. !ithin a 'ew wee s this woman died. That was my 'irst e*perience with what $ ha&e learned to loo upon as a natural action o' nature. Apparently the aura re'lects the &ibrations o' the soul. !hen a person is mar ed 'or death the soul begins to withdraw and the aura naturally 'ades. At the end there is only a slim connection and the brea is easy. $ ha&e heard that when people died suddenly" in accidents" the passing was &ery di''icult because the way had not been prepared.

A person/s aura tells a great deal about him" and when $ understood that 'ew people saw it and that it had a spiritual signi'icance" $ began to study the colors with an idea o' disco&ering their meaning. <&er a period o' years $ ha&e built up a system which 'rom time to time $ ha&e chec ed with other persons who see auras. $t is interesting to note that in almost all interpretation these other people and $ agree. !e only di''er with regard to the colors which are in our own auras. This is curious" 'or it shows how uni&ersal are nature/s laws. !e now that opposites attract and li es repel. !ell" $ ha&e a lot o' blue in my aura and my interpretation o' this color does not always +ibe with that o' a person whose aura does not contain it and who there'ore interprets it ob+ecti&ely. <ne lady $ now has a great deal o' green in her aura" and she is inclined to disli e green in the aura o' others" and place a disagreeable interpretation on it" whereas it is the color o' healing and a 'ine one to ha&e. <ccasionally $ ha&e 'ound in boo s de&oted to occult sciences" de'initions o' colors" and these are generally in accord with what $ ha&e 'ound by e*perience to be true. The reading o' any particular aura" howe&er" is a s ill that is gained o&er a long period o' time by constant obser&ation and endless trial and error. The intermingling o' the colors" their relationship one to another" and the dominance o' one o&er the other" are matters which must be considered be'ore rendering a +udgment. $ am generally better able to #read% persons $ now than strangers" although certain general characteristics o' the strangers" stri e me immediately. But to be help'ul $ 'ind it best to now the indi&idual. Then $ can tell him when $ see the twin ling lights o' success and achie&ement" or warn him when melancholy or illness" threaten. <' course $ do not 2$n this pro'essionally. $ would not thin o' such a thing. But $ belie&e it is an ability which all people will someday possess" and there'ore $ want to do what $ can to get 'ol s used to the idea o' auras" so they will thin in terms o' auras" so they will begin to attempt to see themsel&es. $ ha&e been told that with proper e-uipment it is possible 'or almost anyone to see an aura. E-uipment has been built 'or this purpose" and $ once met a pro'essor who said that he not only had seen auras but in his laboratory had measured and weighed them. !here do the colors come 'rom" and what ma es them shi't and changeC !ell" color seems to be a characteristic o' the &ibration o' matter" and our souls seem to re'lect it in this threeDdimensional world through atomic patterns. !e are patterns" and we pro+ect colors" which are there 'or those who can see them.

$n his remar able boo " Pain, Sex, and Time, (erald 1eard" spea ing o' the e&idence 'or the e&olution o' consciousness" points out that our ability to see colors is e*panding. The easiest color to see" as you now" is red. At that end o' the spectrum the wa&es o' light are long. At the other end" where blue runs into indigo and &iolet" the wa&es are short. According to 1eard" who is a reliable scholar" our ability to see blue is &ery recent. Bati&es who li&e on the Blue Bile in A'rica do not now it by that name. Their title 'or it" when translated" means brown. 1omer" all through the $liad and <dyssey" describes the )editerranean as the #wineD dar sea.% )r. 1eard says that apparently 1omer caught #the slight tinge o' red in the purple o' the )editerranean"% but did not see its predominant blue. Aristotle" moreo&er" said that the rainbow had only three colors> red" yellow and green. !e all now that perspecti&e in painting is recent" and it is apparently unde&eloped in many primiti&e people to this day" 'or tra&elers in the remote Paci'ic $slands ha&e 'ound that nati&es loo ing at motion pictures are unable to percei&e anything but a 'lat sur'ace0their eyes cannot gi&e threeDdimensionality to the pictures. So it would seem that our eyes gradually are gaining in power. $ ha&e heard many people comment on the pre&alence o' spectacles among our ci&ili?ed people. They ha&e seemed to consider this a bad thing. Could it be that it is a result o' constant straining on the part o' our eyes to see more and to bring us to the ne*t step o' e&olutionE $ thin this is true and will be recogni?ed in the 'uture. The 4apanese" 'or instance" are +ust emerging 'rom a medie&al ci&ili?ation" and in attempting to see the things we already percei&e they ha&e strained their eyes so that most e&ery one o' them wears glasses. !hat will it mean to us i' we ma e this ne*t e&olutionary stepC !ell" it will mean that we can see auras. !hat will this meanC $ am going to answer that by telling two e*periences o' a 'riend o' mine who is able to see auras.

This person" a woman" told me this> !hene&er a person" whether it be a stranger" an intimate 'riend" or a member o' my 'amily" decides to tell me an untruth" or to e&ade a direct and 'ran answer to a -uestion o' mine" $ see a strea o' lemony green shoot through his aura" hori?ontally" +ust o&er his head. $ call it gasDlight green" and $ ha&e ne&er nown it to 'ail as an indication o' e&asion or 'alsi'ication. $ was a school teacher 'or many years" and my students mar&eled at my ability to catch them in any detour 'rom the truth. $magine what that will mean0e&eryone able to see when you plan to tell them a lie" e&en a little white one. !e will all ha&e to be 'ran " 'or there will no longer be such a thing as deceitE Bow let me tell you the other incident. <ne day in a large city $ entered a department store to do some shopping. $ was on the si*th 'loor and rang 'or the ele&ator. !hile $ was waiting 'or it $ noticed some bright red sweaters" and thought $ would li e to loo at them. 1owe&er" $ had signaled 'or the ele&ator" and when it came $ stepped 'orward to enter it. $t was almost 'illed with people" but suddenly $ was repelled. The interior o' the car" although wellDlighted" seemed dar to me. Something was wrong. Be'ore $ could analy?e my action $ said" #(o ahead"% to the operator" and stepped bac . $ went o&er to loo at the sweaters" and then $ reali?ed what had made me uneasy. The people in the ele&ator had no auras. !hile $ was e*amining the sweaters" which had attracted me by their bright red hues0the color o' &igor and energy0the ele&ator cable snapped" the car 'ell to the basement" and all the occupants were illed. :ou see what the nac o' seeing auras will mean when it becomes a common ability. .anger" catastrophe" accidents" death" will not come unannounced. !e will see them on their way as did the prophets o' old, and as the prophets o' old we will recogni?e and welcome our own death" understanding its true signi'icance.

$t is di''icult to pro+ect oursel&es into such a world" a world where people will see each other/s 'aults and &irtues" their wea nesses and strength" their sic ness" their mis'ortunes" their coming success. !e will see oursel&es as others see us and we will be an entirely di''erent type o' person" 'or how many o' our &ices will persist when all o' them are nown to e&eryoneE <ne more comment on the possibilities o' the 'uture, then we will return to the more mundane present. Another person who sees auras once told me this> $' $ am tal ing to a person and he ma es a statement o' opinion which re'lects a pre+udice gained in one o' his 'ormer li&es" $ see as he spea s a 'igure in his aura" which is a re'lection o' the personality he was in that time0$ see" that is" the body o' a (ree " or an Egyptian" or whate&er he happened to be. As soon as we pass on to another sub+ect and the opinion gained in that incarnation passes" the 'igure disappears. =ater he will e*press another &iew. Perhaps he will say" #$ ha&e always lo&ed $taly and wanted to go there"% and as he spea s $ will see the 'igure o' a Renaissance man or an old Roman. .uring the course o' an a'ternoon/s con&ersation $ may see si* or eight o' these 'igures. !ell" what is that but a =i'e Reading" e*cept 'or the interpretations and +udgmentsC $t sounded so strange when $ heard it that $ was inclined to be s eptical" until one e&ening at dus when" sitting on the porch o' a 'riend/s house" $ saw the thing mysel'. )y 'riend was spea ing earnestly to a group o' people" and he made some interpretation o' English history. $n his aura $ saw the 'igure o' a young mon " and $ recalled that in his =i'e Reading this 'riend had been identi'ied as a mon in England.

#But what do auras mean to the ma+ority o' people" who cannot see them"% you as C !ell" the ma+ority o' people do see them" $ belie&e" but do not reali?e it. $ belie&e anyone can 'igure out what another person Aa aura is in a general way" i' he will ta e note o' the colors which a person habitually uses in the matter o' clothing and decoration. 1ow many times ha&e you said o' a woman" #!hy does she wear that colorC $t does not suit her at all.% 1ow many times ha&e you said" #1ow beauti'ul she loo s in that dress. The color is +ust right 'or her. She was made to wear it.% $n both cases you ha&e been reading an aura. The 'irst woman was wearing a color which clashed with her aura. The second woman was wearing a color which harmoni?ed with her aura. All o' you now what colors are help'ul to your 'riends" and bring out the best in them. They are the colors that beat with the same &ibrations as the aura" and thus strengthen and heighten it. By watching closely you can e&en disco&er changes in your 'riends as they are re'lected in a shi't in the color predominating in their wardrobe. =et me gi&e you an e*ample" one that has to do with health as it is indicated in the aura. $ new a man who 'rom boyhood wore nothing but blue 0 're-uently $ ha&e seen him with a blue suit" blue shirt" blue tie" and e&en blue soc s. <ne day he went into a store to buy some ties. 1e was surprised to 'ind that he had selected se&eral which were maroon in color. 1e was e&en more surprised when as time went on" he began to choose shirts with garnet stripes and ties and poc et hand erchie' sets in &arious shades o' scarlet. This went on 'or se&eral years" during which time he became more ner&ous and more tired. 1e was wor ing too hard and e&entually he had a ner&ous brea down. .uring this time the red had grown in prominence in his aura. Bow gray" the color o' illness" began to creep into the red" but as he reco&ered" the gray disappeared and then the blue began to eat up the red. E&entually all the red was consumed and he was well. Bor did he e&er a'terward wear anything red" scarlet" or maroon.

$n another case a woman who ordinarily wore greens and yellows" went to a dress shop which she had patroni?ed 'or years. The proprietress brought out se&eral dresses but seemed perple*ed when the lady tried them on. #$ don/t now what it is"% the proprietress said" #but you need something red or pin . $ ha&e ne&er thought you could wear those colors hut something in you seems to call 'or them now.% The lady e&entually bought a dress with red stripes. !ithin a month she was in a hospital" su''ering 'rom a ner&ous condition. She reco&ered" and continued to patroni?e the same dress shop" but the proprietress ne&er again suggested that she wear red or pin .

Red
Red is the 'irst o' the primary colors and in ancient symbolism it represented the body" the earth" and hell" all three o' which meant the same thing in the old mystery religions. The earth was the irrational world into which the soul descended 'rom hea&en. The body was the earth 'orm which held the soul capti&e. 1ea&en was blue" and the spirit was blue. The mind was associated with yellow. $t is interesting that in some systems o' metaphysics blue is considered to be the true color o' the sun, that is" i' we could be outside earth we would see the sun as a blue light0so't" power'ul" and spiritual. The yellow color is supposed to result 'rom the collision o' the sun/s rays with the atmosphere o' earth. Since the greatest spiritual weapon o' man is his intellect" it is natural that mind be associated with the sun/s color in this world. As to the meaning o' red" it indicates 'orce" &igor and energy. $ts interpretation depends upon the shade" and as with all colors" upon the relationship o' other colors. .ar red indicates high temper" and it is a symbol o' ner&ous turmoil. A person with dar red in his aura may not be wea outwardly" but he is su''ering in some way" and it is re'lected in his ner&ous system. Such a person is apt to be domineering and -uic to act. $' the shade o' red is light it indicates a ner&ous" impulsi&e" &ery acti&e person" one who is probably sel'Dcentered. Scarlet indicates an o&erdose o' ego. Pin " or coral" is the color o' immaturity. $t is seen usually in young people" and i' it shows up in the aura o' one who is grown it indicates delayed adolescence" a childish concern with sel'. $n all cases o' red there is a tendency to ner&ous troubles" and such people ought to ta e time to be -uiet and to get outside themsel&es.

Red is the color o' the planet )ars" and corresponds to do, the 'irst note in the musical scale. $n early Christianity it signi'ied the su''ering and death o' Christ" and was the color o' war" stri'e and sacri'ice.

Orange
<range is the color o' the sun. $t is &ital" and a good color generally" indicating thought'ulness and consideration o' others. Again" howe&er" it is a matter o' shade. (olden orange is &ital and indicates sel'Dcontrol" whereas brownish orange shows a lac o' ambition and a don/tDcare attitude. Such people may be repressed" but usually they are +ust la?y. People with orange in their auras are sub+ect to idney trouble. $n the early church orange signi'ied glory" &irtue" and the 'ruits o' the earth" all o' these being connected naturally with the sun. $n the musical scale the note re corresponds to orange.

Yellow
:ellow is the second primary color. !hen it is golden yellow it indicates health and wellDbeing. Such people ta e good care o' themsel&es" don/t worry" and learn easily, good mentality is natural in them. They are happy" 'riendly" and help'ul. $' the yellow is ruddy" they are timid. $' they are redDheads they are apt to ha&e an in'eriority comple*. They are thus apt o'ten to be indecisi&e and wea in will" inclined to let others lead them. $n the musical scale the note mi corresponds to yellow" and )ercury is the planet o' this color.

Green
Pure emerald green" particularly i' it has a dash o' blue" is the color o' healing. $t is help'ul" strong" 'riendly. $t is the color o' doctors and nurses" who in&ariably ha&e a lot o' it in their auras. 1owe&er" it is seldom a dominating color" usually being o&erDshadowed by one o' its neighbors. As it tends toward blue it is more help'ul and trustworthy. As it tends toward yellow it is wea ened. A lemony green" with a lot o' yellow" is deceit'ul. As a rule the deep" healing green is seen in small amounts" but it is good to ha&e a little o' it in your aura. Saturn is the planet o' this color" and fa is its musical note. $n the early church it symboli?ed youth'ulness and the 'ertility o' nature" ta ing this -uite naturally 'rom the sight o' the 'ields in spring.

Blue
Blue has always been the color o' the spirit" the symbol o' contemplation" prayer" and hea&en. The s y is blue because gas molecules in the air cause light rays 'rom the sun to be scattered. This is the scienti'ic e*planation but" as $ ha&e mentioned be'ore" blue is said to be the true color o' the sun" and it is also the color o' the planet 4upiter" which is the ruler o' great thoughts and highDmindedness. Almost any ind o' blue is good" but the deeper shades are the best. Pale blue indicates little depth" but a struggle toward maturity. The person may not be talented" but he tries. 1e will ha&e many heart aches and many headaches" but he will eep going in the right direction. The middle blue" or a-ua" belongs to a person who will wor harder and get more done than the 'ellow with light blue" though there may be little di''erence between them in talent. Those with the deep blue ha&e 'ound their wor and are immersed in it. They are apt to be moody and are almost always unusual persons" but they ha&e a mission and they stead'astly go about 'ul'illing it. They are spiritualDminded 'or the most part" and their li'e is usually dedicated to an unsel'ish cause" such as science" art" or social ser&ice. $ ha&e seen many Sisters o' )ercy with this dar blue" and many writers and singers also. The musical note o' blue is sol, and in the early church the color was assigned to the highest attainments o' the Soul.

Indigo and Violet

$ndigo and &iolet indicate see ers o' all types" people who are searching 'or a cause or a religious e*perience. As these people get settled in their careers and in their belie's" howe&er" these colors usually settle bac into deep blue. $t seems that once the purpose is set in the right direction" blue is a natural emanation o' the soul. Those who ha&e purple are inclined to be o&erbearing" 'or here there is an in'iltration o' pin . 1eart trouble and stomach trouble are rather common to persons with indigo" &iolet and purple in their auras. Venus is the planet o' indigo" and la is its musical note. The moon is the planet o' &iolet and ti is its musical note. $n the early church indigo and &iolet meant humiliation and sorrow. The per'ect color" o' course" is white" and this is what we all are stri&ing 'or. $' our souls were in per'ect balance then all our color &ibrations would blend and we would ha&e an aura o' pure white. Christ had this aura" and it is shown in many paintings o' 1im" particularly those which depict 1im a'ter the resurrection. :ou recall that 1e said at the tomb" #Touch me not 'or $ am newly risen.% 1e meant that as a warning" $ thin " 'or the &ibrations o' 1is being must at that time ha&e been so power'ul that anyone putting a hand on 1im would ha&e been illed0 shoc ed as i' by li&e wire. Color is light" and light is the mani'estation o' creation. !ithout light there would be no li'e" and no e*istence. =ight" in 'act" is the primary witness o' creation. All around us there are colors which we cannot see" +ust as there are sounds we cannot hear" and thoughts we cannot apprehend. <ur world o' comprehension is &ery small. !e can only see the 'ew colors between red and &iolet. Beyond red on one side and &iolet on the other are unguessed numbers o' colors" some o' them so bright and wonder'ul" no doubt" we would be stric en blind i' by some chance we could see them.

But in the 'act o' these colors we cannot see" these sounds we cannot hear" these thoughts we cannot apprehend" lies the hope o' e&olution and the promise o' eternity. This is a small and narrow world" and beyond it are the glories which await our souls. But i' we labor to e*pand our understanding and our consciousness" we can push bac the limits a little bit e&en while here" and thus see a little more" understand a little more. ;i&e hundred years be'ore the birth o' Christ" Pythagoras" the 'irst philosopher" used colors 'or healing. Today medical science is +ust beginning to see the possibilities in this method. $' colors are &ibrations o' spiritual 'orces" they should be able to help in healing our deepest and most subtle maladies. Together with music" which is a indred spiritual 'orce" they 'orm a great hope 'or therapy o' the 'uture. But $ do not thin that color therapy will become widespread or practical until we ha&e accepted the truth o' auras and become accustomed to reading them in order to disco&er what imbalance is disturbing a person. <' course" we cannot trans'orm all auras into a pure white light" but we can learn to detect signs o' physical" mental and ner&ous disorders" and treat them in a proper way. An aura is an e''ect" not a cause. E&ery atom" e&ery molecule" e&ery group o' atoms and molecules howe&er" simple or comple*" howe&er large or small" tells the story o' itsel'" its pattern" its purpose" through the &ibrations which emanate 'rom it. Colors are the perceptions o' these &ibrations by the human eye. As the souls o' indi&iduals tra&el through the realms o' being they shi't and change their patterns as they use or abuse the opportunities presented to them. Thus at any time" in any world" a soul will gi&e o'' through &ibrations the story o' itsel' and the condition in which it now e*ists. $' another consciousness can apprehend those &ibrations and understand them it will now the state o' its 'ellow being" the plight he is in" or the progress he has made.

So" when $ see an aura" $ see the man as he is" though the details are missing. $ belie&e the details are there" but they are missing 'rom my perception and understanding. By e*perience $ ha&e learned to tell a good deal 'rom the intensity o' the colors" their distribution" and the positions they occupy. The aura emanates 'rom the whole body" but usually it is most hea&y and most easily seen around the shoulders and head" probably because o' the many glandular and ner&ous centers located in those parts o' the body. The dar shades generally denote more application" more will power" more spirit. The basic color changes as the person de&elops or retards" but the lighter shades and the pastels blend and shi't more rapidly as the temperament e*presses itsel'. The mind" builder o' the soul" is the essential go&erning 'actor in the aura, but 'ood" en&ironment" and other conditions ha&e their e''ect. Sometimes outside 'orces bring about a change. $ once met a man in whose aura $ saw a sha't o' light" coming downward o&er his le't shoulder. $n it there was some white" a great deal o' green" and a great deal o' red with blue mi*ed in it. $ read this as a sign that the man was recei&ing in'ormation inspirationally" which he was using 'or constructi&e purposes. $ wondered i' he was a writer" 'or it struc me that this would be a proper aura 'or such wor . $ as ed him" and he told me that although he had been a writer" he was now engaged in lecturing and teaching" still gi&ing in'ormation 'or the help o' others. The shape o' the aura is sometimes help'ul. $n children" 'or instance" it is possible to tell whether a great deal o' training by e*ample will be needed" or whether precept will do as well. $' the child is reasonable and will accept instruction on this basis the aura will be li e a rolling crown. $' e*ample is needed" the aura will be a more de'inite 'igure" with sharp points and a &ariety o' colors. $' the child intends to be a law unto himsel'" the aura will be li e a rolling chain" lower than the position o' a crown" going about the shoulders as well as the head. $n the green aura o' healers" i' the color -ui&ers as it rises" the person is most sympathetic. Se&eral times $ ha&e seen people in whose auras there were little hoo s o' light here and there. $n each case the man had a +ob as o&erseer o' large groups o' other men" a director and a leader. =et me gi&e you a 'ew e*amples o' aura reading. These are not complete" +ust some notes that were ta en one day at the end o' our annual congress" when $ was sitting with some o' the members who had attended our meetings. Since $ new them all $ ga&e them only an indication o' the general condition o' their auras.

A woman" middleDaged> :our aura has changed more in the last three days than any $ ha&e e&er seen :our thoughts" your ideas" ha&e wandered 'rom the heights to the depths. At times the aura has been &ery beauti'ul" at others it has not been good. $ ha&e seen a great deal o' the low" dull colors" about you. E&idently something has been worrying you. $t is more mental than physical. :oung woman" a secretary> There has been a great deal o' red about you lately" which means that you ha&e been rather de'iant. <'ten $ ha&e seen lines running away 'rom your 'ingers when $ can/t see the aura about your 'ace. That is probably because you thin with your 'ingers" writing so much. $n the last 'ew days you ha&e had a great deal o' purple" which means the spiritual has mingled with your de'iance, your desire and hope 'or better things has in'luenced your doubts and 'ears. :ou are sure" but a little 'ear'ul at times that you will not be able to put it o&er. :ou also ha&e a great deal o' coral and pin " meaning acti&ity" but at times you smear it with more green than white" which indicates your desire to help others irrespecti&e o' themsel&es. That is not (od/s way. )iddleDaged woman" a teacher> There is a great deal o' leaden gray in your aura" not only 'rom your physical condition but because you ha&e been doubting your own belie's. :ou ha&e become 'ear'ul o' the thing to which you ha&e entrusted your whole inner sel'. There also rise some smears o' white" coming 'rom your higher intellectual sel'" and 'rom your spiritual intents and purposes. Broaden these. :ou also ha&e a great deal o' indigo" indicating spiritual see ing. There is green" but o'ten 'ringed with red" 'or sometimes you would li e to be in the other 'ellow/s place" and would li e him to be in your place" so that he/d now what you go through. A middleDaged woman" social ser&ice wor er> :our aura had been growing more and more to dar blue" golden" and white" with more and more white. $ hope it won/t entirely reach the halo" 'or then $ would be 'ear'ul that you were lea&ing us. :ou ha&e white with gold" which shows an ability to help others to help themsel&es. :ou ha&e the ability to magni'y the &irtues o' an indi&idual" and minimi?e his 'aults.

:oung woman" a cler > :our aura is beauti'ul" yet o'ten you become &ery 'ear'ul. At times you are easily dissatis'ied. There is a great deal o' blue" which is good. :ou should wear blue more o'ten. :ou may not li e it" but it will help you to thin straight. :ou will be able to sing or hum more o'ten as you wor " i' you wear blue. $' you don/t wear it outside" wear it close to your body. There are also some minerals to which you are susceptible" particularly green stones0not because o' their healing -uality 'or you" but because o' the help'ul in'luences they will enable you to gi&e out to others. :ou control others a great deal by what you say and do" more so than you reali?e" yet there is a great deal o' coral in your aura" which means that you become 'ear'ul o' your own choices and are unhappy in your en&ironment. :oung woman" a nurse> $n your aura there is a great deal o' green" but you o'ten rub it out with blue" then strea it up with red. $ would not want to be around when you do the strea ing" and most people who now you 'eel the same way" 'or when you let go it is -uite a display o' temper. :ou ha&e a good deal o' ability" especially in being able to act as a healing and help'ul in'luence to others. Conse-uently" the principal color in your aura is green" but you strea it up when you desire to ha&e your own way. :oung woman" a student> :our aura is changing. There is a great deal o' indigo" indicating the see er. This indigo is not always in a regular line" but loo s more li e tatting all around your head. $ belie&e this indicates that there will be a change in your relationships with certain groups o' people soon. $ ha&e gi&en these e*amples to show how colors blend to 'orm an aura" and how they change 'rom time to time. $ do not e*pect that many o' you will be able to see these colors around others" though $ am sure some o' you ha&e the power without reali?ing it. :ou can become colorD conscious" and you can learn to read auras 'rom people/s clothes and the colors you see predominant in their surroundings0their homes" their o''ices" e&en the color o' their automobiles" their dogs" and the 'lowers they ha&e selected to grow in their gardens.

$t can be a 'ascinating game" noticing how any person with &itality and &igor will ha&e a little splash o' red in a costume" in a room" or in a garden, noticing how persons who are -uiet" dependable" sure o' themsel&es" and spiritual" ne&er are seen without deep blues0it is almost as i' they turn things blue by being near them. Botice how bright and sunny people" who li e to laugh and play" and who are ne&er tired or downhearted" will wear golden yellow and seem to color things yellow" li e a buttercup held under the chin. Colors re'lect the soul and the spirit" the mind and the body" but remember they indicate lac o' per'ection" incompleteness. $' we were all we should be" pure white would emanate 'rom us. Stri&e toward that" and when you see it in others" 'ollow it as i' it were a star. $t is. But we who must ta e solace 'rom smaller things can draw com'ort 'rom blue" get strength 'rom red and be happy in the laughter and sunshine o' golden yellow.
