Optical Emission Spectrometers

ARL 4460 Optical Emission Spectrometer

The ultimate in performance for spark emission metals analysis to allow rapid, reliable quality control of metals. The ARL 4460 OES is quite simply the best system for metals analysis produced to date.
Two important new capabilities have been added to the Thermo Electron well established spectrometer: The patented Current Controlled Source (CCS), which allows a faster attack on the sample and therefore permits faster analysis times and improved precision of analysis, and the Time Resolved Spectroscopy (TRS) system, which permits clearer differentiation between useful analytical signals and background, therefore allowing better limits of detection to be achieved. Together, these capabilities substantially improve the performance of the OE technique and allow faster analyses (well inside one minute over an average of two runs) and improved detection limits for trace analysis. Even more recently, a new Spark-DAT capability has been made available as an option on the ARL 4460. This allows information to be gathered from the individual sparks and permits on-line and fully integrated investigation of inclusions (type, quantity, density...) in metals.

ARL ADVANT'X X-Ray Spectrometer Series

A family of sequential X-ray spectrometers, ARL ADVANT'X, allowing the analysis of up to 84 elements. At the heart of these systems lies the exclusive, gearless Moire fringe goniometer.
From the monitoring of a few elements in oils, polymers, cement or quarry materials to the full analysis of glasses, metals, ores, refractories and geological materials, any of these applications will find its perfect match within this new instrument family. The powerful WinXRF software and standard-less analysis packages, QuantAS and Uniquant, extend the use of these instruments for simple and rapid analysis of various samples to totally unknown samples. A comprehensive sample changer allows large numbers of different samples to be treated fully automatically in mixed batches, further adding to the flexibility of the ARL ADVANT'X series.

X-Ray Spectrometers
ARL OPTIM'X XRF Spectrometer
An innovative WDXRF system for optimum analytical performance in specific applications.
This unique and compact instrument can be configured with a series of Multichromators for simultaneous analysis and/or with a SmartGonio for sequential analysis and flexibility. Typical applications include the analysis of S, Pb and other elements in petrochemical refineries (according to ASTM and ISO norms), analysis of major and minor oxides in raw materials such as limestone, sand, bauxite, ceramics, refractories, slags and sinters, and major and minor elements in food and chemical products. The ARL OPTIM'X offers excellent value for money, and significantly reduced cost per analysis. This instrument is designed for better resolution, precision, reliability and accuracy, bringing substantial performance benefits for quantitative analysis. Solids, liquids and loose powders in either inorganic or organic matrices can be analysed, showing that flexibility in sample handling can be available alongside the flexible configuration options. Built for autonomous and easy operation, the ARL OPTIM'X does not require internal or external watercooling. In addition, it can be configured to work without external detector gas, reducing the peripheral dependence to a strict minimum. To provide general elemental analysis capabilities, or to offer complementary information when X-ray diffraction, FTIR and other structural analysis methods are employed, the ARL

OPTIM'X is the ideal tool to provide cost effective, simple and rapid chemical analysis.

ARL XTRA Powder Diffractometer

The ARL X'TRA XRD system offers the cost-effective solution for high quality powder diffraction applications.
The ARL X'TRA is a high performance stand alone powder diffraction system from Thermo Electron. Combining 25 years of XRD experience and engineering excellence, the ARL X'TRA offers a cost-effective solution for high quality powder diffraction applications in the areas of academic research, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, polymers, semiconductors, thin films, metals and minerals. Built around a vertical theta-theta goniometer, this instrument offers the most convenient geometry for handling powder samples by facilitating the sample preparation, sample changer options and use of specialised sample holders. In order to optimise experimental conditions, the goniometer features removable dual Soller slits and continuous variable micrometer controlled slits for adjusting the width of both the incident and diffracted beams. The X-ray optics on the ARL X'TRA goniometer ensure unsurpassed resolution in the low angle region where peaks can be observed down to 0.5. The system's modular configuration allows the use of various sample stages to fulfil a wide range of different applications. The ARL X'TRA can also be equipped with Thermo's exclusive Peltier cooled Si(Li) solid-state detector, tuned for high count rate in order to minimise coincidence loss. Thanks to its superior resolution compared to a scintillation detector, it removes K-Beta and fluorescence radiation, thus eliminating the need for filters and monochromators. Consequently the diffraction peak intensities are substantially higher than for other available configurations. System control for the ARL X'TRA comes from the WinXRD software running under Windows NT as a true multi-tasking 32-bit data collection and analysis package. All in all, the ARL X'TRA represents a substantial advance in both powder XRD technology and system capabilities.
