US PERSPECTIVE
Nancy Nickman is a Professor of Pharmacotherapy and Presidential Teaching Scholar in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Utah. She received a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree from the University of Montana and graduate degrees from the University of Minnesota in both Hospital Pharmacy (M.S.) and Social and Administrative Pharmacy (Ph.D.). She also completed a two year ASHP Residency in Hospital Pharmacy at United and Children's Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota (19821984). Nancy served as a tenured professor from 1987-2001, and returned to the faculty as a Professor of Pharmacotherapy in 2004 after owning her own business for five years. In 1995, she was named a University of Utah Presidential Teaching Scholar . Her teaching and research interests include the human side of medication use and the medical care process. Research expertise includes patient-centered outcomes research to improve provision and quality of patient care based on application of industrial engineering and economic analyses. Publications and presentations include work sampling evaluations of institutional pharmacy services for re-design of structural and functional activities, pre-post analyses of the impact of technology on the practice of health professionals, simulated time-and-motion evaluations coupled with microcost analyses of issues related to medication preparation and administration, and simulated time-and motion analysis of devices intended for medication self-administration. Nancy has received the University of Utah College of Pharmacy's Distinguished Teaching Award (1990), an Innovative Teaching Award from the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (1993), the Borchard Service-Learning Faculty Mentor Award (1994) from the Lowell Bennion Community Service Center at the University of Utah, and the Thomas Ehrlich Faculty Award for Service-Learning (1996) from Campus Compact. She also served as a Visiting Scholar in the Haas Center for Public Service at Stanford University (1996-1997), and received the Rufus J. Lyman Award from the American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education for the best manuscript published during 1998.

FRANCE AND EUROPE PERSPECTIVES


Claude Le Pen is professor of economics at Paris-Dauphine University and former dean of the Department of Applied Economics (1990-1995). He is director of the postgraduate program on Economics and Management of Health Care Organizations. He studied business administration in HEC business school in Paris and holds a doctorate in Economics from Panthon-Sorbonne University. He specialized in health economics in 1985. He was appointed as member of several state commissions within the Ministry of Health, namely the Transparency Commission for evaluation of pharmaceutical products (1989-92), the National Health Account Commission (1992-1995), the task force for guidelines in economic evaluation of medical technologies, the Committee for the accreditation of physicians networks (19972000), the Commission for national tariff of medical procedures (2004). He is non executive member of the board of the CNAMTS [the main public health insurance fund in France (2003), and expert to the Parliamentary Office for Health Policy Evaluation] (2003). He also acts as expert for the European Union and was rapporteur of a working party preparing the round-tables on the Completion of the Single Market for Pharmaceuticals (1996-1998). He chairs the Health Insurance Study Group of Institut Montaigne, a think-tank on public policy sponsored by a group of major companies in France. He is member of the board of the College des Economistes de la Sant and member of editorial or scientific boards of several scientific journals. Apart from his academic position, Claude Le Pen is also the Scientific Director of AREMIS Consultant, a leading consultancy company in the field of health economics and health management in France. He wrote several books, the last one, published in 2004, co-authored with Didier Sicard, President of the National Commission of Medical Ethics. He authored or coauthored more than one hundred of scientific papers published in domestic and international 8 | Egypt Workshop peer-review journals.

CENTRAL AND BROADER EUROPE PERSPECTIVES


Zoltan Kal is the Director of Health Economics Research Centre at Etvs Lornd University (Budapest, Hungary) and the CEO of Syreon Research Institute. Dr, Kal graduated from the Budapest University of Economics in Budapest (Bachelor of Economics, 1993), the Semmelweis Medical University in Budapest (Medical Doctor, 1995) the University of York in York, UK (MSc in Health Economics, 1996) and the Semmelweis University in Budapest (PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2006). Dr. Kal gained working experience in several fields of health economics. Initially he conducted comparative analyses of health care systems and research in health care financing with special focus on regional resource allocation. Subsequently health technology assessment was his main area of interest, including economic evaluation, Markov modeling, outcomes research, observational studies, quality of life measurement. His recent research is related to the allocative efficiency of pharmaceutical reimbursement systems and the national health industrial policy. He gained international experience in England (1995-96) and Switzerland (19992003). After 10 years in the pharmaceutical industry he moved to the academic sector. Their MSc in Health Policy, Planning and Financing course at Etvs Lornd University is the only master programme in Central-Eastern Europe to study economic modeling of health care technologies. Dr. Kalo is a founding member and the Past President of Hungarian Health Economics Association and ISPOR Chapter Hungary, Board Member of the Hungarian Society of Personalized Medicine. He is member of Organizing Committee of the 10th Congress of the European Association for Clinical Pharmacology (Budapest, 2011), Co-Chair of 13th European ISPOR Congress Issue Panel Review Committee (Prague, 2010) and member of Organizing Committee of the XXIII International Congress of the Transplantation Society (Vancouver 2010). He has authored more than 80 journal articles, book chapters.

ASIA PACIFIC PERSPECTIVE


Abdulkadir Keskinaslan is Market Pricing Director for the Asia Pacific region at Novartis Pharma AG, Basel, Switzerland. Dr. Keskinaslan gained his Medical Degree from Cerraphasa School of Medicine, Istanbul University, Turkey, and went on to complete his residency training in Family Medicine at Sisli Etfal Research and Training Hospital, Istanbul before studying fo Masters Degrees in Business Administration at the Graduate School o Social Sciences, Yeditepe University, Istanbul, and Public Health in Health Care Management at Harvard School of Public Health, Boston, USA. He has practiced medicine for 7 years before he joined the pharmaceutical industry focusing on health economics. His professional experience encompasses health economics activities across a range of therapy areas and his most recent appointment prior to his current role was as Senior Health Economics Manager in CVM at Novartis. His work focusing on real life effectiveness and compliance to therapy has been published in the international press and has been presented at national and international meetings. His recent areas of research are use of Health Economics for Pricing and Reimbursement Decision Making and Outcomes Based Innovative Pricing Schemes. Dr. Keskinaslan has been collaborating with Universities and Health Authorities in Asia Pacific in organizing workshops and seminars to address health care priority issues.
