T an$ce)3e (T(A) le3el 4he transcei$er *4#7. le$el co$ers GSM 9,: GSM ;:: GSM %9:: and GSM %;:: f!nctionalities incl!ding full rate, half rate, enhanced full rate, antenna diversity, radio frequency hopping (synthesized hopping) and different iphering algorithms. 0or each band these f!nctions are integrated into one single mod!le. 'nside each 4#7 mod!le an #0 loop is implemented. 4he loop test is performed after downloading the fre1!encies to the &4S as a s!pplement to the a!totest. 4he 4#7 mod!le also handles the #adio Signaling Bink *#SB. protocol.

4his le$el is ens!red by the Station Unit Mod!le *SUM. which is the central !nit of the &4S. 4here is only one s!ch mod!le per &4S whate$er the n!mber of sectors and 4#7s isC this common control f!nction of the SUM is also called Station Unit Sharing. 4he main base station control f!nctions performed are as follows> - Generating the clocks for all other &4S mod!lesC the clocks can be either synchroni/ed to an e5ternal clock reference - e.g. A-bis link G)S or another &4S - or generated in a p!re free-r!n mode by an internal fre1!ency generator. - Ens!ring central &4S (peration A Maintenance *(AM. application - 2andling the A-bis transmission links *!p to two A-bis interfaces. - 2andling (peration and Maintenance Bink *(MB. and Dm!5 *transmission e1!ipment s!per$ision. protocols - 8ontrolling the A8E38 f!nction when integrated inside the &4S *(!tdoor or 'ndoor A8 config!rations. - 8ontrolling the battery *capacity $oltage temperat!re. - Setting the optimal $oltage and c!rrent for battery charging.

The T@)n =)!e Ban! *o9")ne (A,y) 9o!ule 4he 4win -ide &and 8ombiner stage *ANy. combines !p to fo!r transmitters into two o!tp!ts and distrib!tes the two recei$ed signals !p to fo!r recei$ers. 4his mod!le incl!des twice the same str!ct!re each str!ct!re containing> - (ne wide band combiner *-&8. concentrating two transmitter o!tp!ts into one - 4wo splitters each one distrib!ting the recei$ed signal to two separate o!tp!ts pro$iding di$ersity and non-di$ersity path. 4he hybrid -ide-band combining techni1!e is !sed since it a$oids t!ning problems and is more reliable compared to remotely t!nable ca$ities. Moreo$er it is compatible with the Synthesi/ed 0re1!ency 2opping *S02. feat!re. 0or standard config!rations *for details please refer to dedicated chapter. for which each sector is connected to two antennas *or one cross-polari/ed antenna. the Twin Wide Band Combiner mod!le *ANy. is only necessary for sectors with fi$e or more 4#7s.

4he antenna co!pling le$el is the stage between the antennas and the 4#7 le$elC it handles the combining f!nctions as well as the interface with the antennas. A single mod!le called Antenna Network 8ombiner *ANc. performs these f!nctions for !p to + 4#7s. 0or config!rations of higher capacity a 8ombiner stage can be added. 4hanks to the ANc fle5ibility and this mod!lar b!ilding the antenna co!pling le$el can be adapted to a wide range of re1!irements *red!ction of atten!ation losses minimi/ation of the n!mber of antennasF.. 4he general f!nctions performed at this le$el are> - 3!ple5ing transmit and recei$e paths onto common antennasC - 0eeding the recei$ed signals from the antenna to the recei$er front end where the signals are amplified and distrib!ted to the different recei$ers *Bow Noise Amplifier *BNA. and power splitter f!nctions.C - )ro$iding filtering for the transmit and the recei$e pathsC - 8ombining if necessary o!tp!t signals of different transmitters and connecting them to the antenna*s.C - S!per$ising antennas VS-# *Voltage Standing -a$e #atio..

The Antenna ,et@o % *o9")ne (A,c) 9o!ule 4he Antenna Network combiner mod!le *ANc. connects !p to fo!r transmit signals to two antennas and distrib!tes the recei$ed signals from each antenna to !p to fo!r recei$ers *for the normal and the di$ersity reception.. 4his mod!le incl!des twice the same str!ct!re each str!ct!re containing> - (ne d!ple5er allowing a single antenna to be !sed for the transmission and reception of both downlink and !plink channels- hence minimi/ing the n!mber of antenna - A fre1!ency selecti$e VS-# meter to monitor antenna feeder and antenna - (ne BNA amplifying the recei$e #0 signal and gi$ing good VS-# $al!es noise compression and good reliability - 4wo splitter le$els distrib!ting the recei$ed signal to two or fo!r separate o!tp!ts so that each o!tp!t recei$e the signal from its dedicated antenna and from the second one *di$ersity. - (ne -ide &and 8ombiner *-&8. concentrating two transmitter o!tp!ts into one only for config!rations with more than two 4#7. Each sector is e1!ipped with at least one s!ch stage which feat!res $ery high sensiti$ity reception low atten!ation and minim!m inter-mod!lation prod!cts. 4he ANc can be man!ally config!red *on site. in two modes depending on the n!mber of 4#7 in the sector> - 4he No-combining mode for config!ration !p to 6 4#7 for which the -ide &and 8ombiner is not needed therefore bypassed. - 4he 8ombining mode for config!ration from @ !p to + 4#7 for which the -ide &and combiner is not bypassed.
