As humans created by God with intelligence, we have the tendency to walk in our own ways.

In fact, the depraved nature compels us to walk in our own ways. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way...(Isaiah 53:6). There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death . (Proverbs 16:25). Though very unfortunate, many men still thread this perilous way. At salvation, our sins were washed away by the precious blood of the Lamb, and we were regenerated. We stopped trailing the path that leads to destruction. Then, God demands that we come over unto His ways and walk therein. Jesus said: "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me" (John 14:6). This verse captures the whole discourse of the way of God. We walk in the ways of God, to lead us to the place of God. Jesus is that way. God once spoke through his holy prophet Isaiah "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts" (Isaiah 55:8&9). Due to the limitation of human understanding, we cannot literally discover the ways of God. Endless years of research work, experiments, history, archaeology or even theology would rather lead us even far away from the way of God. How then can we discover the way of God? Has God revealed His ways unto us? Yes, God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit; for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.(I Corinthians 2:10). The ways of God are exclusively known by the Spirit of God. In fact, nothing or nobody can reveal the ways of God unto us, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.(I Corinthians 2:12). We must be taught the way of God. The way of God is distinct, definite and different from other ways known by man. We cannot grasp the way of God by ourselves, we need a teacher. On who is very familiar with that way and will teach us how to ply that way. Now, who is that teacher? Experience? Never! Experience would only teach us that we need a Teacher! The ways of God is expressed not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. (I Corinthians 2:13) Man's wisdom could clearly teach calculus, mechanics, language, music, sports, business principles; but never the things of God. The Holy Spirit is always ready to teach us the way of God, but the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. (I Corinthians 2:14). As natural men, we cannot walk in the ways of God. How then can we fulfil this demand of walking in the ways of God? Let us examine the man Moses. Moses was a man like us who was born of a woman, yet the Bible clearly states that God made known his ways unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel. We see two different classes of people here. Moses who knew the ways of God, but the children of Israel only knew the acts of God. Many christians today only care about the miracles, provision, protection, power, gifts and other acts of God in their lives and families; only a few really care about the way of God. But, history has revealed that only those who found the way of God were used by God. In fact, they were the ones used by God to demonstrate the acts of God. Moses recognized the futility of his ministry outside the ways of God. After working so many signs and wonders, he still cried unto God " I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight." God reassured him of his abiding presence as He said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest. A man like Jonah had little understanding of what the presence of God meant to his ministry. He was a prophet, fine! But, the ministry of the prophet only blossoms when that prophet is in the way of God. The moment he leaves the way of God, he is bound to experience storms.
