we face, it is also one that must be tackled in order for human society to continue. The problem that we face can be easily examined in the south west of Australia, where there is an abundance of opportunity for an alternative energy industry to exist, yet there is almost nothing available, no entrepreneurs vying to be the first to build a power plant, no government grants or rebates being handed out to anyone trying to tap into this power source, no big companies sinking capitol into the area, there is next to nothing there. This lack of sustainable energy is caused by many different factors, lack of education among the general public about the benefits, no rebates, expensive, takes up farming land, cant be used for things like farm equipment, no feed in tariffs for businesses, these problems are easily overcame if the community as a whole worked together, through education and lobbying the south west could become completely sustainable.

Solar thermal is another technology that can be utilised, Solar thermal uses an array of mirrors to hear a central pipe filled with water or molten salt, that energy is used to turn a generator making electricity, a mere 200 sq kilometres would be required to produce enough energy for the south west region. The area also has the opportunity for biomass which works in a similar way to coal fire except it uses biogenic material to heat the water for the generators rather than coal, solar panels and wave generators. These technologies could be used in combination in areas out of sight of the general public, making a covert and unobtrusive system that could power the southwest sustainably and without ruining the natural vistas. Whilst these natural gold mines are literally covering the state, it is very difficult for a company or entrepreneur to tap into these resources as there is very little help from the government in setting up these technologies. No government assistance is provided to anyone setting up a sustainable infrastructure, also there is no feed in tariffs for a business trying to harness this tech at their office.
