Hole #1, par-4, total 327 yards. Small canal crossing the fairway at 150 yards, just avoid the right sand at 200 yards

Approach shot to Green #1, be careful not to overshoot the green, as it has steep downhill rough at the back of the green

Green #1, fairly flat and do not provide enough brake for the low flying ball

Hole #2. Par-5. Total 509 yards. Dogleg left at 220 yards and with a pond at the corner.

Fairway at hole #2, approach shot from 150 yards

Fairway at hole #2, second pond and big bunkers are all over around the green

Green #2. Undulating at the center

Hole #3. Par-4. Total 359 yards. Back to back dog leg left. Hit your drive a little to the right around at least 220 yards, and you have an open approach about 140 yards

Fairway #3. From center of fairway you have to hit just over the right side of the tree. If you slice your shot you will end up on the deep bunker at the right side of the green

Green #3. A deep bunker is guarding the green on the right side

Green #3. Many players hit short of the green for safety

Hole #4, long par-3 with 180 yards. Tree branches could catch your ball on the rise. Wind always blows from left.

Hole #4. Aim at left edge of green, as the wind will carry your ball to the center of the green.

Green #4, Small green opening as it is guarded by deep front bunker

Green #4. Steep uphill from the front part. Definitely this hole is not for beginners. The handicap index 15 is surely misleading.

Hole #5. Par-4. Blue tee 380 yards. Dog leg right, you can cut short over the center tree, but don't slice it, OB right side. If you hit at the center, the fairway does not provide a lot of roll

Fairway #5. Usually against the wind. This hole is a real handicap index 1

Green #5 is guarded by 2 bunkers

Hole #6. Par-4. Total 365 yards. Dogleg left. Tight fairway at the turn. A pond is waiting at 250 yards

Fairway #6. Small pond at 250 yards from tee, 100 yards from green

Green #6, the entire green has evenly medium uphill slope

Hole #7, par-4. Total 424 yards. Dog leg right. Wind blows from right to left. My drive (around 200 yards) usually landed near the turn. Aim a little bit right side of the fairway

Fairway #7. For short hitter, better layup before the green

Green #7, narrow opening and slightly elevated. It does not provide enough brake for balls hit with fairway woods.

Green #7. fairly flat

Hole #8. Par-3. Blue tee 126 yards. Take your time, because the green is surrounded by water.

Green #8 with 2-tier undulations

Green #8. View from behind

Hole #9, par-5, total 460 yards. long and straight. Long hitter can reach the green in two. Sometimes you hit against the wind.

Fairway #9, up then down hill. I have to layup my second shot before the pond for another 150 yards.

Fairway #9. My friend, Mr. Rabin, is preparing his second shot from 220 yards to reach the green in two!

Pond at hole #9

Green #9, very wide, slightly uphill

Hole #10. Par-4. Total 386 yards.

Fairway #10. Approach from 150 yards. Resorts World is at the background.

Green #10, steep undulation peaking at the center

Hole #10. Par-4. Total 400 yards. Handicap index 8, but it is one of the most difficult hole in Villamor. Your drive must carry 220 yards uphill to get over the hump at 200 yards.

Fairway #11, very long fairway with 2 bunkers guarding at left and right. From here I have 200 yards left to the green.

Green #11, well guarded by 4 bunkers.

Green #11, down hill slope toward the left side

Hole #12. Par-3. Blue tee is 145 yards, downhill and sometime against the wind. OB on the left

Green #12, guarded by a big pond

Green #12. Long diagonally farther to the right.

Green #12. View from the right side. Caddy is walking towards to hole 13.

Hole #13. Par-5. Total 457 yards. Uphill, OB along the left fence, two bunkers at 220 yards

Fairway #13. Center bunker is at 200 yards.

Fairway #13, long hitter can reach the green in two. From here, 200 yards remaining

Green #13, with two-level flat areas, front portion is lower than the back, elevating at the center

Hole #14, another long par-4, total 405 yards, reachable by long hitter, be careful of the tight fairway

Pond at #14, just in front of the tee box

Fairway #14. Marriott Hotel is along the left boundary. Megaworld condominiums if fronting the green.

Green #14, elevated towards far left. Behind the green is OB

Hole #15. Short par 4. Total 265 yards. Fairly easy for short hitter but must hit accurately to the center of the fairway.

Fairway #15, approach shot from here is only 75 yards. Left bunker is 40 yards away to the green.

Green #15, sloping down towards the pond on the right

Hole #16. Par-3 with 200 yards distance from blue tee. Score card suggests 188 yards if tee box is near that tree on the right

Green #16, guarded by two bunkers on both sides. Sloping up from front, but flat at the back portion

Hole #17, par-5, total 518 yards. Manageable for short hitters to reach the green in regulation.

Fairway #17. Dogleg to the right

Fairway #17

Fairway #17, approach from here is another 150 yards

Green #17, narrow and long from front to back, left side is guarded by 2 bunkers, right side with 1 bunker.

Hole #18, par-4, total 377 yards. Be careful not to hit one of the two bamboo trees at 180 yards, they can swallow your ball.

Fairway #18, under the shade of the bamboo tree

Green #18, slight sloping up toward the back.

Description The Villamor Golf Course is fairly flat, but still challenging to golfers of all standards due to the trees and water hazards. The fairways are lined with elegant agoho, ipil-ipil, nara and mango trees. Indian tulips mark the 150-yard point on each hole. The grass on the fairways is native carabao grass, which is ideally suited to the tropical climate. Rules
The rules of golf are as most golfers will tell you quite complicated. In order to simplify the situation, and to make it easier for beginners to become interested in the game, Golf Magazine and the United States Golf Association published a list of golfs "10 Golden Rules." This is the list of those 10 golden rules: 1. Play the ball as it lies.

2. Don't move, bend, or break anything growing or fixed, except in fairly taking your stance or swing. Dont press anything down.

3. You may lift natural objects not fixed or growing, except in a water hazard or bunker. No penalty.

4. You may move man-made objects even in a bunker or water hazard. If they are immovable, you may drop within one club-length of the nearest point of relief, no nearer the hole. In a hazard, you must drop in the hazard. No penalty.

5. You may drop away from casual water, ground under repair, burrowing animal holes or casts. On the putting green, place, or in a hazard drop, at the nearest point of relief, no nearer the hole; otherwise drop within one club-length of the nearest point of relief, no nearer the hole. No penalty. (Okay, so theyre not all simple.)

6. In a water hazard or bunker, dont touch the water or ground with your hand or club before the stroke.

7. If you hit your ball into a water hazard and cannot play it, either drop behind the hazard or at the place where you played the shot. One penalty stroke. If you hit into a lateral hazard, you may also drop within two club-lengths of the point where the ball last crossed the hazard margin, or a point equidistant from the hole on the opposite margin. One penalty stroke.

8. When you hit your ball out of bounds or lose it, add a penalty stroke, go back and drop a ball at the place where you played the shot. On the tee, you may tee the ball. If you think you have hit your ball out of bounds or lost it outside a water hazard, play a provisional ball before searching for the first one.

9. When you have an unplayable lie, you may drop a ball at the place where you played the previous shot, adding a penalty stroke. On the tee, you may tee the ball. Alternatively, drop within two club-lengths, no nearer the hole, or any distance behind the unplayable spot, keeping it between you and the hole. If the ball is in a bunker, you must drop in the bunker, under either of the alternative options.

10. On the putting green, you may repair ball marks and old hole plugs on the line of the putt, but not spike marks.

Golf Equipment
Golf Clubs In the early days of golf, players carved their own clubs and balls from wood. In the 16th century, a set of clubs consisted of longnoses for driving, fairway clubs for medium range shots, spoons for short range shots, niblicks (similar to today's wedges) and a putting cleek. Steel replaced hickory shafts in the 1920s. By the 1980s, hi-tech materials such as graphite and titanium, which are extremely strong but very light, were commonplace among professionals.
Drivers

The longest and least lofted of the woods, the driver is used primarily off the tee when maximum distance is required. Most drivers have a loft between seven (for players who like to fire the ball low) and 12 degrees (for a higher trajectory) from the vertical. The sweet spot can be anything up to six square inches (52sq cms).
Fairway Woods

Many recreational golfers prefer the slightly shorter and more lofted 3 or 4 wood off the tee for better control. It can also be used off a good lie on the fairway instead of a long iron for power and precision. The fairway woods as they are known, have longer, more flexible shafts than irons which create greater swing speed and greater distance. The more lofted five wood can even be used from a good lie out of the rough. Many players prefer this sweeping shot to attempting to get an iron through the longer grass. As the name suggests, the woods were traditionally made from tough wood such as beech, holly, and pear. Shafts were made from ash or hazel. The head was connected to the shaft using a splint and then bound tightly using leather straps. But for the last 20 years, materials such as graphite shafts and titanium metal woods have come into widespread use.
Irons

Irons are numbered according to the angle of the face the lower the number the steeper the face. Only the best players take on a 2 iron with confidence. The 3 iron is the longest iron in a standard modern set of clubs. It is still pretty tough to hit but is worth considering on long approach shots to the green or off the tee on long par 3 hole. The 4 iron is the lowest many amateurs choose to go in the iron stakes. It has a shorter shaft than the 3iron so feels less upright and intimidating. If you have one, a 7 -wood is a good substitute if you prefer but will give you less control. The 5 iron is an ideal mid-range club that combines distance with control. It is still a distance club but has enough loft to feel comfortable and generate a flighted trajectory. Experiment chipping with the club when it is necessary to keep the ball lower than with a seven or nine iron.

The 6 iron is the one that many golfers find easiest to hit. The 6-iron is an ideal club with which to begin learning the game. Experiment using the club in a variety of ways changing the length of your swing to obtain different results. The 7 iron is ideal for shorter approach shots. A good club to use for the bump and run shot suited to links courses or when there is a strong wind and one wants to keep the ball low. Take a three-quarters swing with a more punchy action instead of a full eight or nine iron. Its also an ideal club to practice with on the range. The 8 iron is a good attacking club which guarantees consistent length and accuracy. The lofted clubface allows the player to land the ball close to the pin with a minimum roll and often with backspin on the ball. Backspin comes from striking the back of the ball before the turf. The best players can use their 9 iron in a host of different ways. You can either pitch it long with a full swing or chip it delicately from the fringe of the green.
Wedges

Most wedges come with 50 to 52 degrees of loft, which is ideal for making approach shots and chip shots. You can also buy a lob wedge, which has around 60 degrees of loft, for those delicate shots from the perimeter of the green, especially from the rough. Most professionals will carry two wedges as well as a sand iron.
Putters

On average about 40% of your shots on the course will be hit with this club. Because putting is all about personal touch and feel, putters come in all shapes and sizes. Most professionals own dozens of putters which are thrown in and out of the cupboard depending on recent results. There are four general types: Peripherally weighted, with its head offset from the shaft for better balance Blade, very precise but with a smaller sweet spot Mallet-headed, for a firmer connection Centre-shafted, which helps alignment.

There is only one way to find one that suits - test as many as possible. Golf Balls There are two types of golf ball: A two-piece ball consists of a cover and a solid core. The theory is that this enables the energy at impact to be transferred efficiently to the ball in flight so its good for distance. A three-piece ball consists of a cover over elastic windings wound around a solid core centre and is better for control.

Materials

Manufacturers use a combination of different materials with different features, such as hardness and weight, to make both types of ball. The most common golf ball covers are made from two materials; Surlyn and Balata. Surlyn provides a stronger cover, while the Balata is a softer material that offers a little more spin control but might not last more than a few rounds. Most professional players prefer the control of the Balata golf ball. Amateurs are better off with the Surlyn which last longer.
Dimples

The surface is 'dimpled' to increase lift and reduce air resistance. Balls come at different compressions; 100, 90 or 80. As a general rule, the 'hardest' balls should only be used by low handicappers. Any other numbers on the ball are only there to help you identify your ball on the course. For many amateurs, brand new golf balls are an expensive luxury and we make do with 'seconds' and keep a bag of their oldest most battered balls with which to practice on the range.

Learn How to Play

Golf is a fantastic game. It is challenging, rewarding, and highly addictive. Here is some advice on how to get into the game. The First Steps The first mistake you want to avoid is rushing out and buying yourself a complete set of expensive, shiny golf clubs. The reason for this is that there are so many different clubs to suit all different golfing types and abilities. If you buy a complete, brand new set before you have have discovered your own personal style, you might end up needing to sell the clubs to somebody else at a considerable loss. If you do want to use your own clubs right from the beginning, just start by buying a half-set. This will include a few irons, perhaps two woods, and a putter. Click to find out more about golf equipment. A better alternative is to hire clubs from the driving range, so you can try out a few different clubs. You could also borrow clubs from a friend, but remember that clubs are expensive and your friend will not want his or hers to get damaged! Starting to Play The first place to go in order to master the art of golf is the driving range. Here you can borrow clubs and practice your swing. This will allow you to develop good technique without destroying the carefully manicured fairway of an 18-hole course, and thereby invoking the wrath of other players. It will also avoid any embarassment if you dont happen to play like Tiger Woods right from day one. It is probably a good idea to look for a golf instructor, who will be able to help you develop your golf swing. Once you have developed your "long game", you can head over to the practice putting green, and master the art of putting. This is a very important part of your game, and again you will probably want to find an instructor to give you some tips and advice on your technique. You will also want to read up on the rules of golf, to make sure that you understand how the game works.

Once your instructor tells you that you are ready, you can head off to the golf course and start to really enjoy the beautiful game of golf! It will help if you have a friend who can play with you, so that you will enjoy the game even more and also start to experience the thrill of competing.

Types of Golf
Stroke Play (Medal Play) Stroke play is the scoring system for the vast majority of professional golf tournaments. In stroke play, players record the total number of strokes taken in the entire round of golf. The lowest total score wins. Players scores are usually reported in relation to par for easier comparison with other golfers scores. For example, a player whose score is three strokes over par after a given hole would appear as "+3" on the scoreboard. If players are tied after the regulation number of holes in a professional tournament, there is a playoff between all tied players. The playoff is a pre-determined number of holes (anywhere from a single hole to a full round). If players remain tied after the playoff then play continues in sudden death format, with the first player to win a hole outright winning the tournament. Of the four major tournaments, The Masters has a 1-hole playoff, the US Open has an 18-hole playoff, The Open Championship has a 4-hole playoff, and the PGA Championship has a 3-hole playoff. Virtually all regular tournaments employ 1-hole playoffs. Match Play Match play is played as a head-to-head knockout competition in most clubs, and is played on a hole to hole basis. The winner is the person who wins the most of the 18 holes during the round, and the game is over when a player has won more holes than there are holes left to play. If the players are tied after 18 holes then the game continues, starting again at the first hole until a winner is established.

Stableford Generally speaking, Stabelford is popular with higher handicap golfers because it allows them to play a bad hole and still have the opportunity to score well. When playing Stabelford, there are usually "Gross" prizes and "Nett" prizes. Shotgun Start This is an 18-hole tournament in which all of the players start at the same time, but from different holes. The start of the tournament is signified by the firing of a shotgun.

Texas Scramble This is perhaps the best type of golf to play when the skill-level group varies significantly. When playing "Texas Scramble", The captain then selects the best positioned drive, and next shot from that particular spot. This applies even on the means that all of the players have an opportunity to contribute to the end result. Villamor Golf Club, Manila
