Making Sense: How to write a good sentence!

WALT: Write our ideas in sentences that make sense, so that other people can read our writing and understand it. Use a range of sentences to make my writing interesting for the reader. Simple Sentence has only 1 idea WHO: VERB (or chain) They, her, she, it, I Ate NOUN (Subject): who is this sentence about? VERB: What is the subject doing? Compound Sentences has 2 or more ideas and a conjunction (glue) WHO: The dog barked CONTRACTION: Joining words. Complex sentences have 2 or more ideas. At least 1 main idea and another that is linked to this by a conjunction (shows a relationship between ideas). WHO: The dog barked Contraction (Shows Relationship) because VERB it was lonely Contraction (GLUE) and VERB it woke the baby.

Sentence Fluency also needs: Capital Letters: Start of a sentence and Proper nouns people, places, days and names. End sentences with a Full stop, exclamation mark or question mark. Making my writing interesting: I can use: Adjectives they describe the noun. The shaggy dog. Verbs describe what the main subject is doing. The shaggy dog had a sleep. Adverbs describes a verb. We went quickly to the shop. We go to the beach often. Precise nouns find a better work for your noun. Eg house could be shack, hovel, mansion, palace. Activate the nouns make the nouns do something. Eg the decrepit house shrinks into the horizon. Exciting Vocabulary: improve sentences by avoiding over used words, like said, got, went, then and adding WOW words Write your whole piece in the same tense: Past tense: had, have, was, went, made, yesterday, last week, once upon a time. Present Tense: am, are, now, is, here Future Tense: will, tomorrow, next weekend, word ending ed
