Cleveland has a history so rich that entire books have been authored in its honor. The following information gives a brief glimpse into the past, and hopefully ignites a desire in all of us to learn more. The more we learn, the more we pass on to our children, the more we keep Cleveland history alive. Cleveland was established in 1837 as the county seat for Bradley County, which had been created the previous year. It was named after Colonel Benjamin Cleveland, a commander at the Battle of Kings Mountain in North Carolina during the American Revolution. Today, a 500 pound bronze statue of Cleveland, Tennessees namesake proudly stands in Clevelands First Street Square, facing toward the Bradley County Courthouse. Cleveland, TN history includes an important presence during the Civil War. When the Civil War began, Confederate troops occupied the area to control the East Tennessee and Georgia Railroad and to protect the very important Hiwassee River bridge.
Cherokee Nation from 18321838. Soon the Cherokee Native Americans were not welcome even there. By 1838 the Cherokee had moved, or had been moved, to what is now the state of Oklahoma. Most did not go voluntarily. Those that did not became victims of the Trail of Tears. For more information, visit the Museum Center At 5ive Points, or the Cleveland/ Bradley County Public Library. The roots of history run deep in and around Charleston, Tennessee. During the Civil War, the Charleston area was a strategically important region. Located on the Hiwasee River, this was the location that held the only river crossing for the East Tennessee and Georgia Railroad line. The line connected Chattanooga and Knoxville, which made it a very tempting target. In 1861 Union loyalists burned the bridge, and later, throughout the war, it was damaged by both Union and Confederate forces. Another important landmark for Charleston was the Henagar House. This home, located at 428 Market St NE, was, at various times, the headquarters for Union Gens. William T. Sherman and Oliver O. Howard and Confederate Gens. Marcus Wright and Simon Bolivar Buckner.

Going back even further in Charleston history, we find that in the early 1800s, Charleston was called Walkers Ferry. In 1819 the Cherokee Indians gave up their lands that lay north of the Hi wassee River to the US government. Land south of the Hiwassee River and west to the Tennessee River became known as the Ocoee District. The Cherokee Indian Agency was moved to this region, which was in the present day town of Charleston. This was the last Cherokee Agency be-
fore the Cherokee Removal of 1838, which is also known as the Trail of Tears. Charleston was also the location of Fort Cass, the headquarters of the Cherokee Removal. Fort Cass was an encampment that contained
thousands of Cherokee Indians awaiting transport for their forced move to Oklahoma. Charleston may be a small community, but it is becoming largely known as one of the most historic areas in the state.

The children of today are the adults and leaders of tomorrow. As todays children dream of what they will be when they grow up, they dont realize how much responsibility rests upon their shoulders. But as todays parents and leaders, we do realize what lies ahead for our children. We know that they will be faced with important and difficult life decisions. That is why it is our job as adults to make sure that we give our children the tools that they need to learn and grow, so they will be better prepared when it is their turn to make the choices that shape our world. One of the most important tools that we can give our children is a good education. With knowledge and understanding, our children become empowered, and better prepared to face adulthood. Their education is affected by many variables, but our choice of schools for our children will greatly impact their learning process. which resulted in most of the Cherokee people in the area being forced to move west to Oklahoma. This, of course, was what is known as the Trail of Tears. Red Clay marks the beginning of the Trail of Tears. Red Clay Park also has a natural landmark, the Blue Hole Spring, which arises from beneath a limestone ledge and forms a deep
pool that flows into Mill Creek. The spring was used as a water supply by the Cherokee. Red Clay has much to see and do. In addition to the intriguing history and breathtaking views, the park has many trails for hiking, a picnic pavilion, an amphitheater which seats 500 and may be reserved for a small fee. There are also replicas of the 1830s Cherokee homestead and council house to explore. Programs for children, youth and adults are scheduled throughout the year. The primary programs include walking tours of the council grounds, Cherokee blowgun demonstration and introduction to Red Clay and the Cherokee of the 1830s. Family is the most precious part of almost everyones life. We hold family at the top of the list when ranking our most loved earthly treasures. Because of this, when a family member is in need, we strive to find the best possible facility to provide those needs. For short term skilled care, as well as long term care, you can rely upon Bradley Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center to be the best. In fact, in 2012 they were voted the Best of Bradley County in three different categories: Best Nurse, Best Employer, and Best Nursing Home. We are thankful to all those who voted for us, and consider it an honor and a privilege to be allowed to assist in the care of your loved ones, states the facility administrator, Dennis Burtnett. To help provide the best possible care, Bradley Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center offers 213 Medicare certified beds in semi-private and private rooms. These comfortable accommodations are provided in a safe, secure, and smoke-free environment. And to ensure the comfort and safety of every resident, each room is equipped with a Nurse Call System. This gives the assurance that help and assistance are close by. Since 1957, Bradley Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center has been more than a health facility, it has been a home to many wonderful people. Today, this home offers many of the modern amenities that we find in most of our own dwellings. These amenities include cable television, wifi, and telephone service (in-room for a small fee and using the residents own phone). There are also beautifully landscaped grounds and courtyards
with shaded seating, fountains, walkways, and also a wheelchair swing. There are also indoor & outdoor recreational activities in a secured environment. As in most homes, the dining table is a place for family members to come together and enjoy good food and fellowship. It is that way at Bradley Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center as well, with nutritious and delicious meals served in an enjoyable dining atmosphere. As much as Bradley Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center is a home to many, it is also like a community in many ways. The residents are able to enjoy a barber/beauty shop with licensed beauticians on staff to provide full-service to residents. Haircuts, wash and style are free of charge to residents, and hair color and perms are available for a small fee. There is also an in-house country store that is open to residents as well as guests. Bradley Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center proudly accepts Medicare, Medicaid (TennCare), commercial insurance, and private pay. The admissions staff will assist you with the facilitys enrollment forms, and help make the admissions process as simple as possible. Bradley Healthcare & Rehabilitation offers all of this and more. In fact, it will soon be able to welcome more residents as it expands, with the opening of a new rehab unit in late summer 2013. Each of the over 300 staff members is proud of the services they provide, and the care that they give. They invite you to visit and get to know them, and find out if they can help you care for your loved one.

In Tennessee, heart disease and cancer are two of the main causes of death in both men and women. Most of us are aware of this, but what can we do naturally to protect ourselves from disease and other ailments? What options are available to help us lead healthier lifestyles? In Cleveland, there are many options. When adopting a healthier lifestyle, many aspects of our lives must change. Usually the first place people start is with food. How can we eat healthier? Cleveland has several stores that offer natural and organic foods.
Wine, in moderation, is loaded with healthy benefits. A Harvard School of Public Health study, has shown that wine drinkers may lower their risk of heart attacks. Another study, done at Queen Mary University in London reveals that red wine drinkers may lower risk of heart disease. Red wine tannins contain procyanidins, which protect against heart disease. Moderate wine drinkers may also lower their risk of stroke, and developing type 2 diabetes. Wine may also cut the risk of colon cancer, and slow brain function decline. Ocoee Winery is proud to offer a wide variety of nutrient rich wines. Their wines are made from locally grown grapes, some of which have been award recipients. Certain grapes are also used in health and beauty products. The Ocoee Winerys gift shop carries a line of Natures Pearl muscadine grape natural skin care products. Visit Ocoee Winery at 5365 Waterlevel Hwy in Cleveland, and find your favorite wine.
Does Wine Improve Your Health? Relieve Pain and Stress with Bowen
Another form of therapy that takes relaxation therapy to a different level is Bowen Therapy. Bowen is a gentle and effective manual therapy that balances tension patterns in the body, resulting in a state of deep relaxation. Brenda Gossett, who states that she is Clevelands only Certified Bowen Therapist, explains that this therapy is used to treat many conditions. These conditions include the results of traumatic injuries, overuse injuries, high/low blood pressure, stress reactions, arthritic pain, fatigue, fluid retention, ear/throat problems, TMJ problems, insomnia, depression, stroke recovery, ADD/ADHD, Autism, and development delay. The practice of Bowen places soft pressure over precise points of the body to effect a change in the underlying tissue. The changes stimulate the bodys autonomic nervous system to re-balance. Once this occurs, the body can initiate a healing response on structural and energetic level. For more information, call Brenda at (423)506-1670.

person can meditate, breathe and relax while receiving a massage, and that in itself is very beneficial to anyones health. A therapeutic massage can be an important component of your health maintenance plan. It is known to promote well-nourished skin, improve circulation of blood and lymph, relax muscles and improve joint mobility, help lower blood pressure, help lower blood sugar levels, improve immune system functions, improve energy flow, and much more. Massage also helps the body recover from the stresses of strenuous exercise, and facilitates the rebuilding phase of conditioning. If beauty is only skin deep, then beauty begins with healthy skin. For most of us, healthy skin doesnt happen by accident. We have to pamper our faces and treat our skin with care. The best thing we can do for our skin is to receive facial treatments, including a facial massage. A facial massage increases circulation, oxygenating the blood and encouraging the presence of fresh, healing red blood cells. It also softens expression-induced lines around your eyes, lips and brows, helps expel acne-causing toxins and de-puffs and brightens the eye area. In addition to massage, what
we apply to our faces also greatly affects our skin. Debra Sanders, skin care specialist, recommends that we use only natural products on our delicate skin. She uses and recommends Artistry make up

Dr. Robin Godfrey Terrero, DPh, and the staff of Wellness Store Compounding Pharmacy are dedicated to serving you and your health needs enter the store.from the beginning customer service and patient care have been the highest priority! That commitment continues as we serve our community in an Old Fashioned way, like that found in the drug store of the past. A Pioneer in the Field of Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement, Dr. Robin Terrero, DPh founded Wellness mones available to the women in my community! After learning as much as possible, I opened the Wellness Store Compounding Pharmacy so that I could consult with women and then compound their hormones. Little did I imagine that I would discover an entirely new approach to treating or healing, which is called alternative or integrative medicine. I must say,
this often went against the grain of my formal education as a pharmacist, but I kept an open mind and an open heart to the needs of my patients. Through the years I have seen things come and go and stay! I have seen what works and what doesnt first hand. The one thing I am positive about is this: there is not one type of hormone therapy that is right for everyone! We have learned a lot, but we must never forget that we are individuals and we require individualized therapy if we expect great outcomes. That is, and always has been the basis for this type of hormone therapy. With proper testing and patient evaluation, our staff can team with your physician for a plan that works for you! Thanks to the increased amount of research going into hormone balance and natural products, positive outcomes are ever increasing! Keeping Up With the Research Its All About Balance Thanks to clinical studies and research, we have discovered so many things in the past 15 years that can
impact and influence our health and hormone balance. Things like our food, GI or gut health, and toxins in our environment just to mention a few! But the one thing that by far exceeds the others in its ability to destroy our health is STRESS, specifically the adrenal glands. The state of the adrenal glands is, for the most part, overlooked in traditional health care. However, adrenal health affects our immune system, sleep patterns, blood sugar levels, our ability to lose weight and our basic hormone balance, to mention a few. Testing for cortisol levels using saliva samples is the most accurate way to determine the health of the adrenal gland. Kits are available at the Wellness Pharmacy. This testing is usually included with the test for hormones, but can be done separately. I have come to realize that it is virtually impossible to achieve anything close to a healthy state, lose weight, or have hormone balance when the adrenal glands are not well, says Terrero.
