The teacher is teaching. The students are listening to the teacher. The sun is shining. A student reads the dialogue for the class. A: What do you do after school? B: I do my homework. C: What does your sister do after school? D: She plays with her friends. Answer: Present Simple Tense

Good! So, what tense did they use in the dialogue? Correct! III. Lesson Proper That is exactly our lesson for today. Now, I want you to take a look at the responses. You can see that the verbs are underlined. Why do you think the first verb is in the base form/original form and the other verb is in s form?

The first verb in the first response is in the base form because the subject is the pronoun I. While the second verb in the second response is in the s form because the subject is She.

Good! Can anybody explain further by interpreting the chart? I We You They Plural nouns (Children, students) He She It Singular nouns (Jenny, student) Base form/Original form of the verb Do Play Study -es/-s form Does Plays Studies

The pronoun I, We, You, They and plural subjects should be followed by the base form of the verb while the pronouns He, She, It and singular subjects should be followed by the s or es form of the verb.

Correct! For example: I/They/We/You/The children go to school everyday. He/She/Fred plays DOTA every evening. Who can make other sentences using the chart as a guide? You can use other verbs. The students give their own sentences.

Now, let us move on to the uses of the present simple tense. 1. Let us take a look at my friends schedule. Darwins Daily Schedule 6:00 am breakfast 6:30 am bath 7:00 am- 4:00 pm school 4:30 pm homework 5:00 pm basketball 6:30 pm TV

Make sentences using the schedule. What does he do at 6:00am? What time does his class start? What does Darwin do at 6:30pm?

Darwin eats breakfast at 6am. His class starts at 7am. Darwin watches television.

Good sentences! So, when do we use the present simple tense in these examples? Great! Take note that we use this tense when we express timetables, schedules and routines. Things we do in a daily schedule, a movie schedule or a flight schedule. Can you give your own sentences on the first usage? 2. Next use of the present simple. The teacher shows a picture.
