Happy Founders Day!

As we all know, March 17, 1917 was the day that Minna Goldsmith Mahler, Eva Effron Robin, Ida Bienstock Landau, Sylvia Steierman Cohn and Dorothy Cohen Schwartzman founded Delta Phi Epsilon Sorority at NYU Law School. On Founders Day we proudly wear our badges, pearls, purple and gold, or even Kiss Me, Im a Deepher shirts. It is a great reminder of our motto, Esse Quam Videri. The LA women gathered for lunch on Saturday, March 15 at Elephant Bar in Northridge. The Sacramento and Bay Area women celebrated th Sunday, March 16 at Linde Lane Tea Room in Dixon. Several Humboldt area women also got together.

The CAA leadership team feels it is important to support the Epsilon Upsilon Chapter and welcome its graduates into alumnae membership. That is why we will present the graduating senior who best represents the values of D Phi E with complimentary CAA membership for her first year. Nominations of any of the women who graduated or will graduate in the 20132014 academic year are currently being accepted from active Epsilon Upsilon sisters. Sunday morning, the weekend will conclude

with breakfast and reburying the time capsule. Consideration has been given to those who are travelling, and no events are planned for Sunday afternoon. If you have any questions about the weekend, please email Sam Barton barton.samantha@yahoo .com. As always, any donations to the chapter would be much appreciated. DIMES for D Phi E

DIMES 4 DPhiE (D4D) is a Educational Foundation fundraising initiative held during the month of March to commemorate our Founders. Last year, D4D raised over $57,000, which allowed for extensive growth of scholarships, and educational programming, such as, Engage U and Convention. This year the goal is $75,000! Chapters that go "all-in" and have each active sister give $19.17 will receive the exclusive Foundation shirt for 2014. The chapter that fundraises the most for D4D will also receive $1,000 for educational programming for their chapter. When you donate at the link below, be sure to designate your chapter, or support Epsilon Upsilon by choosing Humboldt State from the drop-down list. You will receive a shirt with a $75 or greater donation. https://dphie2014.thedonortree.com/donate

Alumnae Entrepreneur: Kimberly Ann Sweet

This essay is part of a series on CAA members who have embarked on business ventures. If you would like to be featured, please let us know!

Im Kimberly Ann Sweet AKA Minnie, I was in the Delta Sigma class of the EY Chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon at Humboldt State and this year I accidentally started my own business. That is not to say that it hasnt been a lot of work. Exhausting, stressful, wonderful, fulfilling work but starting a business wasnt really in my life plan. My husband bought me a camera for my birthday last year and I just loved taking picturesnot of trees or clouds or my Tuesday morning brunch (thats what Instagram is for, right?) I love taking pictures of people. Sisters, families, childrenI love the stories behind each person I get to work with. So I kept on taking pictures and by some stroke of luck people kept asking me to. My experience in DPhiE taught me not to do anything half way so this year I decided to file for my license, fictitious name, and started shopping for insurance. I still love taking pictures and working with clients (especially sisters). Its such a fun way to interact with girls and keep in touch after going alum. I offer a Sorority Special for $50 always have and always will. Im currently trying to get the chapter together for a session at Redwood Park I want to have the letters, balloons, and (of course) glitter. If any local alum would like to be involved please contact me and I will

keep you updated as we set a date. I absolutely LOVE my accidental business I could do without the taxes and paperwork but working with clients and sisters makes it all completely worthwhile. I am so grateful for the professional skills I learned through being a part of DPhiE. The lessons Ive learned and the connections I made through our organization help me every single day and I cant imagine my life without my sisterhood.

D Phi E Runners Facebook Group by Lynna Do

I started running in 2009 because I was going through some life changing events. My goal was to relive stress, get a handle on my weight, and most of all, be healthy again. All my life I was an athlete and wanted to feel good again. Since I started running it was mostly a solitary thing, but then Rose started the DPhiE Running Group. Although at first it was a place to motivate each other and share advice, it transformed into much more. Over time it became a way for sisters to come together and run races together. This past February, several sisters had a mini-convention at Walt Disney World to run the Disney Princess Half Marathon weekend. Some sisters ran one or some of the 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, completed The Glass Slipper Challenge, and got the Princess Coast to Coast medal. I was one of those sisters who did all. Through this group I was able to meet up with sisters that I had never met in real life and built upon the bond of our sisterhood. In January some sisters met in Disneyland to do the Tinker Bell Half Marathon weekend and others in Walt Disney World to do the Goofy Challenge. This group has united sisters in our love and passion for running.
