Introduction
“Study of Human Behavior,” it’s the often answer of the people when you asked them
what Psychology is. What they do not know is that Psychology is not just a study of
Human Behavior, it’s also deals with emotion, perception of an individual and everything
that affect his whole being. Psychology is a broad topic but what caught my attention
about this subject are the Left and Right Hemisphere. One way of looking at learning
right brained or a left brained person. The two hemispheres of the brain are connected by
a thick band of nerve fibers known as corpus callosum which sends message back and
forth between the hemispheres. A brain research confirms that both sides of the brain are
involved in nearly every human activity and that the left side of the brain is the seat of
language and processes in a logical and sequential order while the right side is more
visual and processes intuitively and randomly. Of course, all of the people seem to have a
dominant side. It’s not that all of us is biologically right brained or left brained; it is
because sometimes we are just more comfortable with the learning strategies
characteristics of one over the other. What most of us doing is lengthening our list of
strategies for learning how to learn and trying to determine what best work for us. We
can use and develop both sides of the brain, but because of the seat of our preferences
probably has more neural connections, learning may occur faster. This term paper will
look at some at differences between the left and right processes of the brain. No one is
totally left brained or right brained, just as you have a dominant hand, dominant eye and a
dominant foot, you also probably have a dominant side of the brain.

II. Definition
Encarta Dictionary defined the word brained as an organ of thought and feeling.
According to them, brain is the controlling center of the nervous system and it is also
connected to the spinal cord and enclosed in the cranium. The brain is composed of a
lot of tissue and one of them is the neuroglia which controls a person’s thought and
emotion and also regulates bodily activity. The Brain has two parts or two hemispheres
--- the left and the right hemisphere, which we will discuss in this paper.
A. Left Hemisphere
The Left Hemisphere of our brain is more on the scientific skills, numerical skills
and language. It is connected to the right side of our body. That’s the reason why they
say that individuals who are predominantly right sided tend to be artsy, good with
math and are more visual in nature. It also produces speech, analysis, time and
sequence and it recognizes letters, numbers and words. Individuals who are left
hemispheric deals with input one at a time and processes information in a linear
manner. It process from part to whole. It takes pieces, lines them up, arrange them in
logical order and arrived at a conclusion. The left brain has also no trouble processing
symbols. They deal with symbols such as words, numbers and mathematical
notations. They are more comfortable with linguistic and mathematical endeavors.
Another thing about left brained persons is that they deal things the way they are.
They are easily affected by the environment and they usually adjust to it. They are
also known as rules followers. They want to know the rule and follow it. In fact,
when there are no rules in a situation, they will probably make up rules to follow
them. Left Brained students will know is aware of the consequences if they do not
pass the papers on time or they failed an examination. The left hemispheric person is
reality based and deals with the reality rather than the fantasy. It also deals with one
input at a time, responsible for verbal expression, language and arithmetic operations.
It does logical and analytical thinking and has the seat of reason or they are good in
reasoning. The best jobs that suit for the left hemispheric person are wordsmiths and
engineers.
B. Right Hemisphere
Right Hemisphere on the other hand is more on the creative side of an individual. If
you can see, left hemisphere strategies are the one often used in the classroom, so
sometimes Right Hemisphere feel inadequate. However, we can be flexible and adapt
material to the right side of our brain. First, let’s now discuss the function and
characteristics of the right hemisphere. Obviously, all the characteristics of the left
hemisphere is connected to the right side of the body, the right hemisphere is
connected to the left side. It is more on creativity, patterns, spatial awareness and
context. It also recognizes faces, places, and objects. They learn whole first then parts
and is stimulated by appearance. They prefer pictures, graphs, and charts rather than
the lecture to understand the lesson faster. Right Brained student also takes a lot of
time to write a paper because they are more on non verbal communication. They can
integrate many inputs at once or what we called multi-tasking. They also processes
information more diffusely and simultaneously and deal with time, responsible for
All the information that I have gathered have the same perception or should I say belief
about the different hemispheres in our brain. All of the data unifies that the left
hemisphere is for the speech and mathematical side of the person, so we can say that
left brained person are good at math and language. On the contrary, right hemisphere is
more on the creative side of the person. It is more on the person’s passion and artistic
side. When it comes to learning, left brained people understand the lesson faster than
the right brained, but right brained individual can do a lot of things than the left brained
because they can do different things at the same time or multi-tasking. The right and
left hemisphere of our brain is very important for us, but it is much better if we are
going to learn how these two hemispheres can work together for us to have a better
V. Conclusion
It is a well known for a fact that the brain is divided into two different hemispheres
which is the left and the right hemisphere. Both of them have different functions and
characteristics. Left Hemisphere is more on the cognitive side of the brain while the
Right Hemisphere is more on the imaginative or creative side. This paper has only
touched briefly the truth about the two hemispheres. All of the misconceptions has been
answered and clarify. We can use what we have learned in this paper by improving our
knowledge, talents and skills. We can also improve our techniques in learning by
determining what dominant brain we have. If we’re a left brained person, we can easily
learn if were going to study the part of our lesson first and for the right brained person,
