Class: 1 Elite Theme: World of Knowledge Topic: So Hairy and Scary Focus: Listening and speaking Integrated skill: Writing Proficiency level: Intermediate (Urban) Content Standards: 1.1 By the end of the 6-year primary schooling, pupils will be able to pronounce words and speak confidently with correct stress, rhythm and intonation. 4.1 By the end of the 6-year primary schooling, pupils will be able to enjoy and appreciate rhymes, poems and songs, through performance. 4.3 By the end of the 6-year primary schooling, pupils will be able to plan, organize and produce creative works for enjoyment. Learning Standards: 1.1.3 Able to listen to, say aloud and recite rhymes or sing songs. 4.1.2 Able to recite nursery rhymes, jazz chants and sing action songs with correct pronunciation and rhythm. 4.3.1 Able to produce simple creative works with guidance based on: b) action songs 4.3.2 Able to take part with guidance in a performance based on: (a) Action songs Objectives: By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to: i. Listen to, say aloud and sing the song entitled Animal Song with correct pronunciation and rhythm. Stage/Time Set Induction (5 minutes)

Activity/Content Whole Class Activity Aids: Pictures (Appendix A)

Presentation/Rationale 1. Teacher shows a series of pictures showing animal body parts. 2. Students required to name the animals that have this body parts. 3. After students have given the correct answer on each picture, teacher asks students to imitate the sound of the animal.

Rationale: To gain students attention and arouse their interest on the lesson as well as prepares them with a correct framework about the topic of the day, Animal. Presentation (15 minutes) Whole Class Activity Aids: Flashcards (Appendix B) Vocab, pantomime, Matching, crossword, bingo, charade 1. Teacher introduces new vocabularies on animals by using flashcards. (Appendix B) a) Elephant b) Crocodile c) Lion d) Duck e) Monkey f) Rabbit

2. Teacher guides students to read aloud the flashcards for a few times. 3. While introducing each animal, teacher asks questions such as: a) What is the sound produced by this animal? b) What are the characteristics of this animal? c) How does this animal move?

Rationale: To introduce new vocabularies and help students to reinforce and stimulates their prior knowledge. Practice (15 minutes) Whole Class Activity Aids: Laptop Speaker Lyric of the song (Appendix C) Clue Cards(Appendix D) Scoreboard 1. Teacher projects the lyric of the song entitled Animal Song that is sang to the tune of The Farmer In His Den in her slide show. 2. Then, teacher plays the minus one of the song The Farmer In His Den while students are required to listen to the tune carefully. 3. Next, teacher guides the students to sing the song for a few times and adds in actions when students gradually master the song. 4. Teacher distributes the lyric of the song to students and asks them to circle the animals that can be found in the lyric. (Appendix C) 5. Teacher conducts a game called Animal Charade. 6. A few students are selected to perform actions so that their friends can guess what animal he/she is imitating. 7. First, the selected students are required to choose a clue card. The

clue card contains a picture of an animal. 8. Based on the clue, the student act out actions to imitate the animal so that their friends can guess it correctly. 9. Student that wants to answer the question need to raise his hand up and answer in a complete simple sentence. Eg: You are a _____. 10. The group that able to answer most questions is declared as the winner. 11. Rationale: To develop students understanding on the animals.

Production (20 minutes) Make masks and adapt a new song

Group Activity Aids: Laptop Speaker Labels (Appendix E)

1. Teacher divides the students into 4 groups. 2. Teacher gives each group different animal mask templates, scissors, a hole puncher and some rubber bands. (Appendix E). 3. Teacher gives clear instruction on how to make the animal mask and guides students from time to time. 4. Based on the animal mask that students have made, for example Group As animal mask is a rabbit, they are required to fill in the blanks in the song lyrics and produce a new song based on their symbolic animal, rabbit.(Appendix F) 5. Each group is given 5 minutes to prepare and discuss how to fill in the blanks to produce a new song. 6. Teacher also guides students to think about some simple creative actions that can be done when they are performing the new song. 7. Students are required to wear their masks when they are performing their new song. Rationale: To reinforce their understanding on animals, provide them with opportunities

to think creatively and build their selfconfidence to perform in front of the public. Closure (5 minutes) Animal riddles Whole Class Activity Aids: Laptop 1. Teacher shows a few animal riddles in the slide show and asks students to give the correct answer. 2. Teacher inculcates the moral values. We should love and take good care of animals.

Rationale: To help them to remember the different types of clothes.
