RESEARCH:- Research is an ORGANIZED and SYSTEMATIC way of FINDING

ANSWERS to QUESTIONS. SYSTEMATIC because there is a definite set of procedures and steps which you will follow. There are certain things in the research process which are always done in order to get the most accurate results. ORGANIZED in that there is a structure or method in going about doing research. It is a planned procedure, not a spontaneous one. It is focused and limited to a specific scope. FINDING ANSWERS is the end of all research. Whether it is the answer to a hypothesis or even a simple question, research is successful when we find answers. Sometimes the answer is no, but it is still an answer. QUESTIONS are central to research. If there is no question, then the answer is of no use. Research is focused on relevant, useful, and important questions. Without a question, research has no focus, drive, or purpose. Research is an organized designed and carried out to provide information to solve a specific problem. In fact, research is an art of scientific investigation of a certain problem. Research is the process of systematically obtaining accurate answers to significant and pertinent questions by the use of the scientific methods for gathering and interpreting informa tion.

RESEARCH DESIGN:Research design refers to the systematically method consisting of enunciating problems, collecting the facts or data, formulating hypothesis, analyzing the data and reaching certain conclusions. A plan for collecting and utilizing data so that desired information can be obtained with sufficient precision or so that a hypothesis can be tested properly. There are various types of research design and the most suitable design for this study is Diagnostic and analytical method.

There are various steps in research design namely: 1. Recognizing the problem to be solved. 2. Collection of relevant information to study the situation. 3. Design regarding the study period. 4. Assimilating and analyzing the collected information. 5. Formulation of hypothesis. 6. Finally, forwarding certain recommendations and conclusions to the company.

Title of the Project:A STUDY ON FINANCIAL STATEMENT ANALYSIS OF HDFC STANDARD LIFE INSURANCE THROUGH FUND FLOW ANALYSIS.

SCOPE OF THE STUDY :The study on analysis of Flow of funds of HDFC Standard life insurance. It is confined to only HDFC Standard life insurance and cannot be generalized to any other industries or company. The study is only about the financial analysis and flow of funds of HDFC Standard life insurance in India and is limited only to India and not to other country.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY:The objectives of the study are as follows: 1. To know the changes in working capital during the last few years in the company and the reasons for the changes. 2. To know the various sources from which the funds are raised and the application of those funds in the company. 3. To know the financial and working capital position of the company. 4. To know the present operating efficiency and suggest suitable recommendations. 5. To give necessary suggestions that can be made by making a thorough study on the financing and flow of funds of HDFC standard life insurance. 6. To analyze the financial position of the company.

7. To know how the funds have been effectively utilized by the company. 8. It guides the management in arranging its financing more effectively

Method of data collection :Data collection is a term used to describe a process of preparing and collecting data - for example as part of a process improvement or similar project. The purpose of data collection is to obtain information to keep on record, to make decisions about important issues, to pass information on to others. Primarily, data is collected to provide information regarding a specific topic.

Types of data collection:1-By mail questionnaires 2-By personal interview.

Other main types of collection include census, sample survey, and administrative by-product and each with their respective advantages and disadvantages. A census refers to data collection about everyone or everything in a group or population and has advantages, such as accuracy and detail and disadvantages, such as cost and time. A sample survey is a data collection method that includes only part of the total population and has advantages, such as cost and time and disadvantages, such as accuracy and detail. Administrative by-product data is collected as a byproduct of an organizations day-to-day operations and has advantages, such as accuracy, time simplicity and disadvantages, such as no flexibility and lack of control.

The sources of data are as follows:(1) Primary Data : Primary source is a term used in a number of disciplines to

describe source material that is closest to the person, information, period, or idea being studied. In historiography, a primary source (also called original source) is an artifact, a document, a recording, or other source of information that was created at the time under study. If created by a human source, then a source with direct personal knowledge of the events being described. It serves as an original source of information about the topic. The primary sources are those which provide data gathered for the first time by personal interviews, questionnaire etc. In this particular project, there is no primary data collected and used in the project.

(2)Secondary Data :- Secondary sources are those from which data are obtained in second hand, i.e., data collected from records, annual reports, etc. The secondary data is derived from the annual reports collected by the Finance Department in the company. This also includes the information accessed from the various website through Internet, magazines and textbooks.

Limitations Of The Study :The limitations of the study are as follows: Being an academic effort this project cannot be generalized for any other company. Time constraint as the project is academic purpose; the complete study of the company is not possible. The study is only limited to HDFC Standard life insurance and not applicable to any other insurance company. This study based on accounting concepts and principals.
