Rationale The generating stations are located at remote areas since power distribution process is complicated. The energy supply system includes different Levels of voltages, which will provide different stages of the conversion of voltages in power system .This subject helps the students to analyse the behaviour of different type of substations and transmission & distribution lines .The knowledge gained in this subject is help full to the students in future. OBJECTIVES Upon completion of course, student should be able to: MODULE- I 1.1.0 Understand the various methods of Electrical Power Generation 1.1.1 Draw and explain the general layout of Hydro electric power stations showing Dam, Reservoir, surge tank, penstocks etc 1.1.2 Analyse low head, medium head and high head hydro-electric power stations 1.1.3 Estimate the available energy from a hydroelectric power station using available rain fall and head of water with simple problems. 1.1.4 Draw the lay out, name each block and explain working of gas power station 1.1.5 Draw the layout of steam power station, name each block and explain its working 1.1.6 Explain the functions of main accessories such as super heater, condenser, feed pump etc in a steam power station 1.1.7 Draw layout of Diesel power station and explain the functions of each block briefly. 1.1.8 Specify the important factors for choice of site of hydraulic & steam power plants 1.1.9 Prepare the layout of nuclear power plant and explain the function of each component
