9.2.3

Sag Adjusters

Tension insulators may have sag adjusters for adjusting the sag of phase conductor. The total range of linear adjustment and individual steps shall be as specified in Appendix 9A.The sag adjusters shall be fitted on the earth end of the low duty tension insulator set. Low duty tension sets shall have a turn-buckle for adjusting sag of the complete down lead. The turnbuckle shall comply with the requirements ofBS 4429, and shall be fitted with lock nuts. The total range of linear adjustment shall be as specified in Appendix 9A. The tum-buckle shall be fitted on the earth end of the low duty tension insulator set.
9.2.4 Insulator Protective Fittings

The design of insulator protective fittings including corona shields shall comply with requirements specified in Clauses 8.2.6 and 8.5.2.
9.2.5 Electrical and Mechanical Characteristics

The insulator and earth wire set fittings, suspension clamps, conductor tension fittings and insulator protection fittings shall have the electrical and mechanical characteristics specified in Appendix 9A.
9.2.6 Conductor Suspension Clamps

Suspension clamps shall be armour grip type and shall be designed to meet the following requirements: (a) (b) (c) So that the effects of aeolian vibration both on the conductor and on the clamp is minimised; To avoid localised pressure or damage to the conductor, and shall have sufficient contact surface to avoid damage by fault currents; Shall be free to pivot in the vertical plane of the conductor with a minimum range of movement of 30 degrees about the vertical center line and with the trunnion axis of the clamp passing through the conductor center line to with 5 percent of the conductor diameter; Shall have a slipping capacity between the specified minimum and maximum slipping loads; The trunnion clamp assembly shall have sufficient strength and durability to prevent deterioration in service; The mouth of the suspension clamp shall be rounded and slightly flared, with a minimum radius of curvature in the vertical phase of 150 mm; Shall be capable of being used in conjunction with factory fonned helical armour rods and neoprene liners; At the pivot points, adjustable pins complete with a locking arrangement shall be provided to ensure that a bearing depth equivalent to the pin diameter can be achieved, in conjunction with a maximum side play of the clamp of 3 mm.

9.2.7

Earthwire suspension clamps shall be generally in accordance with the requirements of Clause 9.2.6.
9.2.8 Armour Rods

Armour rods shall be of factory formed helical type and comprise sets of individual rods compatible with the conductor and shall have a right hand lay. The rods shall completely enclose the conductor except for small gaps required to ensure that all the rods make good contact with the conductor over their entire length. The ends of the rods shall be approximately hemispherical.
