Product Description

Overview of the APM30

1.1 Background
To implement easy, flexible, and convenient power distribution for Huawei separated base
stations and distributed base stations, to enable the BBU and transmission equipment of the
operators to adapt to adverse environment, and to provide backup power for the separated
base stations and distributed base stations, Huawei has introduced the APM30.

1.2 Positioning
The APM30 provides a comprehensive solution for distributed base stations and separated
base stations in terms of power distribution, surge protection, installation of the BBU and
transmission equipment, layout of the transmission cables, and DC power backup. The rollout
of the APM30 meets the requirements of fast network construction.

Product Description

Key Benefits

2.1 Functions
The APM30 provides distributed base stations and separated base stations with the -48 V DC
power and backup power from batteries. The APM30 provides space for the installation of the
BBU and transmission equipment. In addition, the APM30 performs the functions such as
battery management, monitoring and communication of the power system, surge protection,
and temperature control.
The auxiliary equipment of the APM30 is the transmission cabinet and battery cabinet, which
provide the following functions:

The transmission cabinet provides a space of 11 U for user devices.

The battery cabinet provides backup power of up to 48 V 184 Ah.

2.2 Installation Modes

The APM30 cabinet is small and light. It can be installed on a rooftop, on the concrete floor,
on a pole, on an overhead platform, or on a wall.
The external cables of the APM30 are simple and easy to install.

2.3 Environmental Adaptability

In structural design, the APM30 can protect itself from the damage caused by water,
moisture, mould, corrosion, and theft. The open holes in the exterior of the APM30
cabinet help prevent the entry of foreign objects into the cabinet. The APM30 is highly
adaptable to outdoor applications.

The APM30 can protect the AC/DC power supply against lightning stroke. It can be
installed on a rooftop or on a mountain top where lightning strokes frequently occur.

The built-in rectifier of the APM30 can work within a wide range of input AC voltages.
The input voltage ranges from 176 V AC to 280 V AC, corresponding to the rated power
of the rectifier.

The APM30 can properly control the internal temperature and work at a temperature
ranging from -40 to +50.

2.4 Maintainability
The cables are led out of the APM30 from the cabinet bottom. You can replace faulty parts,
maintain the external ports, and connect the cables from the front of the APM30. The rectifier
and the monitoring module are hot-swappable. Therefore, the maintenance of the APM30 is
easy and convenient.

Function

Description

Remarks

Providing space
for user devices

The APM30 cabinet provides a space of 5 U to 7 U for

user devices.

Mandatory

Without batteries, the APM30 provides a space of 7 U

for user devices.

With 48 V 24 Ah batteries, the APM30 provides a

space of 5 U for user devices.

The APM30 cabinet can house two 48 V 12 Ah battery

groups, which equals a 48 V 24 Ah battery group. The
battery group supplies power to the distributed base
station for a short period of time.

When connected to a battery cabinet, the APM30

cabinet can supply power of up to 48V 184 Ah.

The PSUs convert the input AC mains into -48 V DC

power.

The PSU is hot-swappable.

The PMU manages the PSUs and the charging and

discharging of the batteries.

The PMU has the RS485 and dry contact alarm ports
for remote control and attendance-free monitoring.

The PMU supports the battery low voltage disconnect

(BLVD) and load low voltage disconnect (LLVD)
functions.

The PMU is hot-swappable.

The APM30 provides an AC/DC built-in power system

that supports three AC input modes through the
configurations of different power distribution boxes.
The three AC input modes are 220 V single-phase, 110
V dual-live-wire, and 220 V three- phase.

The APM30 provides two AC outputs.

Surge protection
on the power and
signal ports

The APM30 provides surge protection on the AC and

DC power ports.

In the APM30, the surge protection circuit is designed

for the monitoring, alarm, and communication ports. In
this way, the APM30 provides safe and reliable surge
protection and inductive lightning protection.

Heat dissipation

The power cabinet combines a breathable film and fans

to enable good adaptation to the ambient temperature.

Grounding

The grounding bus of the cabinet and the PGND cables

of the surge protector and other devices are all connected
to the grounding bar of the APM30 cabinet.

DC power
distribution

The APM30 uses different PDUs for DC power

distribution according to different scenarios and AC
input modes. For details, see Figure 1.2.

Typical Applications of the APM30

5.1 Applications in the Distributed Base Station

5.1.1 Power Backup with Built-in Batteries
The built-in batteries of the APM30 are applied to the distributed base station, as shown in
Figure 1.1.
Figure 1.1 Typical application of the APM30 (1)

The APM30 is applied to the typical distributed base station configured with one BBU
and three RRUs.

The APM30 provides a space of 7 U for installing the BBU and transmission equipment.
The APM30 has a built-in power system to supply -48 V DC power to the distributed
base station and transmission equipment and to charge the built-in batteries.

In the absence of mains, the built-in battery groups of the APM30 supplies -48 V DC
power to the distributed base station and transmission equipment.

The APM30 provides a space of 7 U for installing the BBU and transmission equipment.
The APM30 has a built-in power system to supply -48 V DC power to the BBU, RFU,
and transmission equipment and to charge the batteries in the RF cabinet. The
transmission equipment in the APM30 transmits signals to mini base stations.

The APM30 reports alarms related to fans, door status sensor, DCDU, and batteries in
the RF cabinet.

5.3 Capacities of the Backup Power

In different scenarios, the APM30 and APM30 battery cabinet can be configured with
batteries with different capacities for power backup, such as 48 V 24 Ah, 48 V 50 Ah, 48 V
100 Ah (when two 48 V 50 Ah battery groups are combined), 48 V 92 Ah, and 48 V 184 Ah
(when two 48 V 92 Ah battery groups are combined), as described in Figure 1.9.
