5-Hole Windowpane Blanket Pattern

The pattern repeat is a solid block and a windowpane block.

Each solid block looks like it has 10 dc by 5 rows
Each windowpane block looks like it has 5 holes by 5 holes.
Always plan on an odd number of blocks to have a solid block at all 4 corners.

Light Worsted weight yarn (Caron Simply Soft)

J Hook
Gauge: 5 ½”/pattern repeat

Ch 19 per pattern repeat +11 (for the last solid block)

Here’s how to calculate how many chains to start with:

17 blocks = 8 pattern repeats x 19 st= 152 ch +11 ch (for last solid block) = ch 163

# of Foundation Finished size

blocks Chain w/o edge
9 blocks Ch 87 25”
11 Ch 106 30.5”
13 Ch 125 36”
15 Ch 144 41.5”
17 Ch 163 47”
19 Ch 182 52.5”
21 Ch 201 58”
23 Ch 220 63.5

Make sure your last stitch on every row goes into the turning chain of the previous row. It
really helps to count the number of stitches and holes in each block as you go. It’s quite
heartbreaking to have to pull out rows because you added a ch 1 in a solid block.

Ch 2 counts as first dc.

Ch 3 counts as first dc + ch 1.

Row 1: Dc in 3rd ch from hook, dc in next 9 ch, *(ch 1, sk 1 ch, dc in next ch) 5 times, dc in next
9 ch*, repeat from * to * across. Turn.

Rows 2-5: Ch 2, dc in next 9 dc, *(ch 1, sk 1 ch, dc in next dc) 5 times, dc in next 9 dc*, repeat
from * to * across. Turn.

Row 6: Ch 3, sk 1 dc, dc in next dc, (ch 1, sk 1 dc, dc in next dc) 4 times, *(dc in next ch-1 sp, dc
in next dc) 4 times, dc in next ch-1 sp, (ch 1, sk 1 dc, dc in next dc) 5 times*, repeat from * to *
across. Turn.

Rows 7-10: Ch 3, sk 1 ch, dc in next dc, (ch 1, sk 1 dc, dc in next dc 4 times, *dc in next 9 dc, (ch
1, sk 1 ch, dc in next dc)*, repeat from * to * across. Turn.

Row 11: Ch 2, dc in ch-1 sp, (dc in next dc, dc in next ch-1 sp) 4 times, *(ch 1, sk 1 dc, dc in next
dc) five times, (dc in next ch-1 sp, dc in next dc) 4 times, dc in last ch-1 sp*, repeat from * to *
across. Turn.

Rows 12-15: Ch 2, dc in next 9 dc, *(ch 1, sk 1 ch, dc in next dc) 5 times, dc in next 9 dc*, repeat
from * to * across. Turn.

Repeat Rows 6-15 until desired length is achieved.

Do not fasten off, continue to edging.

Edging

Ch 2, HDC in every stitch around edge of blanket. Use 2 HDC into the posts of each dc along
the sides. Use 3 HDC at each corner. Join with a sl st to the first st.

Repeat edging row as desired.
