EVROPSKE STUDIJE (ES) STATUTE FOR ORGANIZING AND CONDUCTING THE POSTGRADUATE STUDY IN EUROPEAN STUDIES I General provisions

Article 1 The Sarajevo University organizes a postgraduate study in European Studies for the purpose acquiring the Master s Degree in European Studies. The Center for Interdisciplinar y Postgraduate Studies of the University of Sarajevo is entrusted to take care of the academic and organizational activities. Article 2 The postgraduate study is interdisciplinary in character and has been accredited by the Universit y of Bologna. Its curriculum, by its concept, content, methods and forms of lectur ing provides the basis for awarding the scientific degree of the Master of European Studies. II Enrollment Article 3 1. After the published contest all those in possession of the Bachelor s Degree ca n apply for matriculation. 2. All candidates must have an active knowledge of the English language. Article 4 The Contest Commission appointed by the Council of the PostGraduate Study gives proposal for the selection of candidates. Article 5 The selected candidates are obliged to pay specified amount as tuition. The amou nt shall be determined by a separate decision. III Curriculum (Program of Instruction)

Article 6 The postgraduate study lasts two years, or four semesters. The program of instruction is performe d according to the curriculum which is a constituent part of these Statutes. Article 7 The process of instruction includes lectures, term papers, practical exercises, consultations, individual and/or group research work. Article 8 The teaching procedure will be determined subsequently.

IV Examinations Article 9 The examinations are oral or written. Before sitting for oral examinations, each student is obliged to complete a term paper. Examinations for subjects scheduled for the next semester can be taken only when all the obligations from the previous semester have been completed. Article 10 As a rule, all examinations are taken before the lecturer teaching the respectiv e subject. Examinations may be taken three times. The student who does not pass an examination after second attempt shall take the third examination before a commission. Commission is appointed by the President of the Council of Postgraduate Studies. Article 11 The examinations are graded as follows: extraordinary (10), excellent (9), very good (8), fair (7), pass (6) and fail (5). Term papers are marked with satisfactory with merits , satisfactory and fail . V Internship Article 12 Students are required to serve an internship totaling to 300 to 500 working hour s. VI Master s Thesis Article 13 Students make an application for the registering the theme of their Master s Thesi s to the Council of the PostGraduate Study. Article 14 The theme is approved by the Council of the PostGraduate Study on the basis of an application

which contains: the title of the thesis, explanation of objective and method of work, and the signature of the professor proposed by the student to be a mentor. The approved thesis is entered into the register, and the application is kept to gether with the matriculation list of the candidate. Article 15 The Master s Thesis must represent an independent treatment of the selected theme using scientific methods and must have a scientific and research character. Article 16 The student submits his Thesis for assessment after completing all obligations f oreseen by these Statutes, but not later than one year after testifying the last of the four seme sters of the postgraduate study. Article 17 The Master s Thesis is to be submitted in fourteen copies. It is evaluated by a co mmission consisting

of minimum three members. The mentor is a member of the Commission for Evaluatio n Of the Master s Thesis. The Master s Thesis is defended before the commission consisting of at least three members appointed by the Council of the PostGraduate Study. Article 18 Within three months of its appointment, the Commission is obliged to submit a re port about the evaluation of the Master s Thesis to the Council of the PostGraduate Studies and to either propose the defense of the thesis or rejection of the thesis. Article 19 The student whose Master s Thesis was rejected or the student who has not successf ully defended his Thesis is given one more opportunity to apply for a new Master s Thesis, at th e latest six months after receiving a written notification about the negative evaluation of the Thes is or the defense of the Thesis. The student must submit new thesis 12 months after its approval. Article 20 The Master s Thesis is, as a rule, defended before the commission which evaluated it. Article 21 It is considered that the student has defended his master s Thesis if the Commissi on evaluates positively the defense by majority of votes. VII Diploma Article 22 Student is awarded a Diploma after the successful defense of the Master s Thesis i n which he is granted the degree of Master of European Studies. The Diploma is signed by the R ector of the University of Sarajevo and the Rector of the University of Bologna.

Article 23 A certificate of attendance specifying the semester of the postgraduate study and the courses taken may be issued upon a student s request. Such certificate contains the examinations passed and the grades achieved at tho se examinations. Article 24 If after a student has acquired the scientific degree of a Master of Arts a reas onable doubt appears that the Master s Thesis was not an independent scientific and research work of th e said student, or that during the defense of the Thesis the student did not satisfy other requirem ents foreseen in these Statutes, a procedure is started for revoking the scientific degree of a Master of Arts as stipulated in Article 41 of the Regulations of Sarajevo University. VIII Management and Administration Article 25 The study is administered by the Council of the PostGraduate Study. The President of the Council of PostGraduate Study directs the work of the study. He shall be a professor teaching the postgr aduate studies; he is appointed by the members of the Council of PostGraduate Studies for the

period of two years. Article 26 Members of the Council of the PostGraduate Studies are professors teaching the proscribed courses. Article 27 The Council of the PostGraduate Study . gives initiative for inviting applications for enrollment of students at the p ostgraduate study and proposes conditions for enrollment; . selects students for enrollment; . decides about the students petitions; . updates the curricula; . appoints mentors for Master s Theses; . decides about the suitability of the theme of the Master s Thesis and appoints m embers of the Commission for evaluation and defense of the Master s Thesis; . communicates with other participants in the process of instruction; . prepares proposals for starting the procedure to initiate a new postgraduate study; . performs other tasks within the framework of managing the process of postgradu ate study. Article 28 President of the PostGraduate Study: . monitors the process of instruction and realization of the curriculum; . makes timetable and other tasks related to the process of instruction; . sits for individual consultations with students; . in the case of absence of a professor teaching certain subject determines who is going to replace him for examination or who is going to teach his or her classes; . sets the date for defending the Master s Thesis; . at the end of each semester gives report about the process of the study; performs other tasks within the framework of directing the postgraduate study. Article 29 The professor of respective course organizes teaching activities for his or her subject with the approval of the President of the Council of PostGraduate

Study. Renowned domestic and foreign scientists are included in the teaching activities. IX Financing Article 30 The postgraduate study is financed from the tuition paid by the students in the amount of 50% of the total costs. In order to register in the fourth semester, the student must f ully fulfill the outstanding financial obligations. Article 31 The amount of the tuition is decided by the Council of the PostGraduate Study at the time of publishing the public competition for matriculation. Article 32 The Council of the PostGraduate Study makes the financial plan. President of the Council is in charge of realization of the financial plan.

X Transitional and Final Provisions Article 32 The Statutes become effective on the eighth day after their publication on the B ulletin Board of the Sarajevo University.
