JED

SEUN

this is a clip taken from the trailer for a film called Norman. Based on our feedback in lesson we were thinking a different ways to re shoot the diolouge scene in order to make it more engaging and to also re enforce the tense atmosphere thats been built up till then. These shots arent exact but similar to what we want to achieve; the blue lines represent where the actors eye line will be. We feel that Having these side on shots will be a lot more effective in terms of evoking this level of tension as the use of eye line allows the viewer to feel a lot more intimate and emersed in the action. These shots will also allow for good places to cut, for instance, having a cut to seuns facial expression while jeds still speaking out of frame; emphasising seuns slow build up in anxiety and also his great torment.

This would then allow for a shot where you can pan down from jeds face so the two actors are eye line (shown above, from a trailer for the place beyond the pines). This along with shots such as just seuns face being in frame and the bat resting on his head would intensify the mood a lot further; the fact that both key characters are framed in such close proxemics at eye line, compresses this built up tension and allows the audience to feel involved in the action.

We like the idea of having this shot later on in the dialogue section of the film; the framing creates a natural V almost, emphasising the dominance and authority of jed and also that they are the two main characters. Also we like the fact that the shadow hasnt revealed jeds identity yet. We also need to use focus effectively as at the moment seuns head is in focus where as we want jed in focus.

We eventually want to cut to a close up of jeds face with his cap turned: 1. To reveal his identity 2. To re enforce his facial expression This will add to the level of suspense as the audience then see how agitated and aggressive jed really gets, shown through his facial expression

Again its near enough the same intentions for this shot change: here we want to cut to a close up of seuns face to emphasis his facial expression and also to have a variety of shots in order to keep the viewer engaged

On the lines seun: Jay you can trust me like, you brought me in Jed: what do you mean about trust bruv Here I think in order to make the logistics clear and show why seun has a mood change and gives in so to speak, jed should hit seun, in order to shut him up. This would allow for a shot in jeds small monologue showing a side on eye line of seuns face, of seuns anger / anxiety rising and allow the tense atmosphere to build even further.

Eventually I will cut to a close up of the bat. This is important as this is a key prop in the opening sequence and also it re enforces the raw and threatening nature of the scene. I want to show it earlier on in the film as well as here to create an enigma i.e. frame it in certain shots so its a subtle hint (foreshadowing) to later violence; this will further keep the audience engaged and keep them thinking.
