Dear friends in Christ, Thank you! What a gift it has been for Lori and me to get to know you better and spend a number of the past weekends with you. We have been honored and humbled to be a support and part of Church of All Nations during your time of waiting and transition as you seek God for who will be your next pastor. Gods hand is certainly on and guiding Church of All Nations. His ngerprints are all over you, and Lori and I see Christ alive and at work in so many ways through you. As many of you know, Lori and I have been going through our own time and season of transition since this past August when we rst moved to Shenzhen from the United States. Transitions can be very exciting and energizing as new friendships are built, and new discoveries are made, both about ourselves, as well as the world all around us. But transitions, as all of you know, are also lled with many challenges and unique pressures. While God may have had it in mind for Lori and me to be in Asia at just the time that you, Church of All Nations, needed us to be involved with your ministry, Lori and I are becoming equally convinced that God had it in mind for us to be in Asia and involved at Church of All Nations at just the time that Lori and I needed Church of All Nations to be a part of our lives. God has been blessing us richly through you; through your prayers, kindness, encouragement, openness, and partnership in the work of Gods Kingdom. As Lori and I have the chance to speak and get to know many of you, we have been impressed, and strengthened, by the depths of wisdom, insight, passion, and dedication you have for Christ and His Kingdom. We are being spiritually, emotionally, and relationally enriched by you. So, thank you! Through you, Lori and I are getting a glimpse of Gods bigger picture of His Kingdom. We have been learning much from and through you. I am gaining insights and experiences that I know I am going to be able to pass along to other leaders around the world. You certainly have an incredible future, because God is giving you, today, an amazing present! So continue to be a congregation that is determined to help people to know Christ. Be a congregation of people that are committed to knowing Christ more fully. And continue to be a congregation that has set its heart on making Christ more fully known. In Christ,

Prison Ministry
The social ministry board has conducted several prison visits in January and February this year. This included two separate visits to the Stanley Correctional Institution and a visit to 14 women at the Lo Wu Correctional Institution. CAN members were joined by 7 HKIS students on one of the visits to Stanley and another batch of HKIS students are scheduled for the next prison visit on this coming Sunday, February 16. We pray that many lives will be blessed and changed through this ministry and that the Word of God will nurture disciples behind prison walls, renewing and setting souls free...

REFLECTIONS BY HKIS PARTICIPANTS

Today I met with a prisoner and I talked to him. At rst I was scared because I had never been to a prison before. It turned out to be one of the most life changing experiences a person could ever have. I walked into the white room with phones in every stall. Each one of the stalls had a prisoner. I had always thought of prisoners as convicts or mentally ill. But when I walked into stall number eight and picked up the phone my view changed. His name was Barry and he gave me a great smile as I walked in. I picked up the phone and said with condence "hi my name is Soa" He replied back " my name is Barry". He asked me about my studies and I talked about humanities in Action and how I love community service. He then asked me what religion I was and I told him catholic. He told me that as a child he never believed in Christianity. Then he came to prison and found Christianity. He told me "I was never a good Christian as a child I didn't believe. I didn't do what my parents told me to.As I got older I realized how important it is to me." I was shocked by this because I learnt he was just a normal person like us who happened to make a bad choice. He asked me what my favorite studies were and I told him I love art. He smiled and laughed. He told me he takes some classes. He told me he takes Chinese and English and that he wanted to nish his studies. What amazes me is that someone who has been through so much has a will to nish education. He wasn't a convict to me anymore he was a person who made a stupid choice. Then again haven't we all? He looked me in the eyes and told me "Never Take drugs. Don't smoke Study hard and read the bible" I told him I will. It was Time up when he said "I will pray for you" I realiZed that he wasn't who I thought he was a nice man who had made a mistake. Soa Pedersen Before this experience, I think my predictions were very inuenced by the media. In movies, the prison is always a scary place with creepy people in them. I was nervous because I had frightful images in my head. I got even more scared and nervous after I learned I was going to talk to the prisoner all by myself. However, once I met this man, I didn't feel scared at all. He was so nice and easy to talk to. He kept asking me what life was like outside, how my family was, how school was, and he would talk about his life story as well. He was a father of two daughters one who was 13, and one who was 10, who he loved very much. He always loved getting letters and pictures from them. He was also a practicing Christian, and he said he feels blessed that he is healthy and has supportive friends and family.! During the conversation, I realized that the word "prisoner" is just a name given to them, but underneath that, they are humans too. I thought prisoners would have lost hope in their life, but surprisingly, they seemed to have a lot of hope and aspirations for their future. I'm so glad I went on this trip, because not many people get the opportunity to visit a prisoner and hear their stories. It inspired and moved me how hopeful these prisoners were. Sherry Wang

Words are not enough to say thank you very much for everything! I am very blessed in the trip even if I did not expect any trip this Christmas season. I thank the Lord for the trip because it turned to be a present to me this Christmas and new year. The scholarship students were lovely and I enjoyed being with them. The whole team together with the Ember Club leaders, HKIS students, LTS students, and members of the CWEF staff were all great! Theyre all awesome and phenomenal! The theme of Christmas and the stories we used to teach English are excellent. The scholarship students were all lovely, so eager to learn English and Christmas songs. I enjoyed the Chinese food and truly awesome to eat with the students in the school canteen. The experience was most treasurable. There is nothing more I can say because being it was indescribable.

Street Sleepers Party 2014

Many thanks to those who shared their extra food and clothing with the more than 120 guests who attended the 17th Annual Street Sleeper Party on Saturday, January 18. "There were 41 volunteers, both adults and children, who went from CAN to Sham Shui Po on that day. "Five Middle Schoolers helped lead the children's program and all the children had a blast. The cookies, snacks, and goodies donated lled 135 gallon-sized bags of treats for the guests to take home! Clothing and blanket donations were distributed to the guests with the help from volunteers from CAN and local Chinese churches. There was plenty to go around. "Whatever that were not utilized that day were sent to Salvation Army that afternoon. CAN has collected HK $17,238 for the party of which HK$10,000 was spent on the purchase of dry goods (oil, rice, canned food), shampoo and body soap for each guest to take home. "HK $2,416.6 was spent on purchasing extra goodies for the guests' to take away and materials to run the children's program. "The bus cost was HK$1,355. "With an additional gift of HK$533.6 made by the Social Ministry Board, CAN was able to make an extra donation of HK$4,000 to the SS Party to cover the cost of extra food bought for the feast that was served to the guests that day. We pray that our guests will know that there are many in Hong Kong who care about them through the donations and efforts of the Street Sleeper Party. " Thank you again for helping make this annual event a continued success.

Altogether CAN donated 120 bags of dry goods!
