SUBJECT : Information and trouble shooting for preheating time relay

MODELS : MUSSO, KORANDO with diesel engine

CONDITION:
This service bulletin is issued for inform you about the preheating time relay and trouble shooting

Function of preheating time relay

- Switching of preheating current. - Indication of preheating finish. - Control of preheating sequence. - Indication of fault.

Preheating Time Relay 1. When the ignition key is on, preheating relay supply the power(12V) to terminal 15 and LA. And then supply the power(12V) to the glow plug during 10 sec through the terminal G1 ~ G5. And then put out the glow indicator. 2. When the engine is started, the preheating time relay supply the power(12V) to terminal 50, so additional power is supplied to glow plug through the terminal G1~G5. At this time, glow indicator does not come on.

Even if the vehicle is driving, preheating time relay checks the coolant temperature through the terminal 'T' and decides the preheating time. - When the coolant temperature is 20 , glow indicator lamp on time : 4 ~ 6 second 4. If the one or several glow plugs are faulty, preheating time relay lights the glow indicator after starting for about 2 minute,

Trouble shooting
Vehicle Musso Symptom When the horn is operated, glow indicator comes on intermittently Glow indicator does not comes on in preheating time and comes on after starting the engine Preheating is not operated and glow lamp does not come on Cause Preheating time relay is faulty One or several glow plugs are faulty Battery is faulty Ground is faulty Action Replace it with new one Check the glow plug and replace Replace it with new one Tighten the ground bolt

B+ wiring or connection is faulty Check the connection Glow indicator is faulty Musso Glow indicator does not come on Korando while preheating and after engine start Circuit of glow indicator is faulty Replace it with new one Control relay is faulty Circuit short in one or several Glow indicator does not come on and glow plugs engine's starting is difficult or does not Preheating circuits is faulty start at all Control relay is faulty Glow indicator comes on after starting One or several glow plugs for about one minute are faulty Check the circuit Replace it with new one Check the glow plug and replace

[Caution] Please check the below items, before replacing the preheating time relay. - Battery power, - Sensor of coolant temperature - Ground state of wiring, - Glow plug and wiring

Diagnose method for glow plug

- Check the resistance between glow plug and engine block. - Specification . Resistance : 10.5() - When is cold . Tightening torque (glow plug) : 20Nm (15 lb-ft) . Tightening torque (nut) : 4Nm (35 lb-in)
