Written assignment 1 2. Education is the single most important factor in the development of a country. Do you agree or disagree?

State your point of view and include examples to support your reasons. To begin this essay I must say I agree with this topic, because the development of the future country depends on its citizens education, if children are more qualified they will be able and capable to lead the country to a better step. It means, in my opinion, the more qualified, the better lead is a country. The Spanish government seems not to be able to see the importance of this simple aspect, which contributes to give a proper and good education, of which results in society will appear some years later, it is like an investment. In order to get a better society, we should invest money in education which +will provide generations with better level of wisdom and smarter people. Nowadays, the Spanish government prefers to invest less budget in education because of the financial crisis but this is a bad movement or measure, because it is a backwards step or a failure in the education and consequently a regression of the progress of the society; and also it is a backwards step as human beings and, of course, intellectually. By the way, the main problem is not the money invested in education, e.g. in Finland, they invested more or less the same amount of money per student as Spain did in 2010. Finland is a great country where education is at the top in a worldwide list. In this list, Spain is in the last positions. This list evaluate the knowledge of the students. In Finland the 95% of the schools are state ones, mandatory education begins when students are 7 years old and they start learning easy subjects like their mother tongue, the Finnish and P. E. When they are 10 years old, they start receiving qualifications at mathematics, science, history and foreign languages learning. In the

Finnish education system, teachers are not officials from the state as it is known in Spain, they can be fired if the principal thinks so. They do not have to pass public competitions for that post. In my opinion, the linchpin of this education is how Finnish people have the professor occupation and its career. To be able to study the teaching degree, Finnish students have to get a very high mark in the university entrance exams (9 of 10). This aspect also has repercussions on society. This means that a teacher is considered to be one of the most important careers there. When Finnish people think in a teacher, they think in a distinguished person, they usually ask teachers for advice in their lives. The respect that Finnish people have to teachers is further than Spaniards. In my opinion, Spaniards think in a teacher as a clerk and not as a tutor, in many cases as their own employee. Parents think they can demand the teacher to change the way how his/her lessons are given. This point is more notorious at charter schools. Regarding the Finnish system, if the smarter part of the population are the ones who teach, they will be more capable to make children understand the information they are trying to teach, and thanks to the autonomy teachers have in Finland, the education system provides new ideas and projects in order to develop the students knowledge and wisdom. In conclusion, as I have shown my point of view in this essay, improving education should be the most important point for the governments, because if you improve education, you will improve the future of the country. We neednt copy the Finnish education, but we should do something suitable to change the present system, because the problem is not the money we have or we invest.
