As a University which provides strong support for research activities, Bangor has a number of subject related specialist resources that include:

A recently built Environment Centre for Wales which focuses on environmental research

A multi-media Language Centre which uses digital technology through computers which are able to record and play back digital sound, and mix audio and text.

The School of Sport, Health and Exercise Science has two physiology laboratories, a dual energy x-ray absorptiometry room, underwater weighing room, climatic chamber, motion analysis room, psychology laboratory, computing rooms and lecture and study rooms,

We also have a Centre for Hill and Upland Management which maintains strong links with local farmers. One section of this is used entirely for research and educational purposes, and has areas devoted to argoforestry, crop and livestock experiments, including a forestry demonstration area.

Our ocean-going Research Ship which provides practical experience at sea and the opportunity to develop projects on scientific cruises was built at a cost of 3.5 million.

The Natural History Museum, the only one of its kind in north Wales, which has a wide range of preserved material.

Treborth Botanic Gardens are used for some of the research and teaching activities of the School of Biological Sciences and the School of Agricultural and Forest Sciences. The Treborth Gardens are situated on the shores of the Menai Strait and is home to seven glasshouses, including a large landscaped tropical house, Europe's largest underground root laboratory, a teaching laboratory, formal garden beds, a rock garden, an arboretum and a conservation collection. LAW SCHOOL FACILITIES

Our facilities include an extensive Law Library overseen by a dedicated Law Librarian. The library has benefited from substantial investment by the University and other benefactors. The University Archives contain a wealth of historical material, a rich vein of primary sources for those wishing to undertake research for higher degrees in fields such as Legal History. The Collection
The Law Library provides printed and electronic sources to meet the needs of its users and reflects current teaching and research within the Law School. The collection has developed considerably since its inception in 2003/2004. The collection is sub-divided into the following sequences:
Reference

Digests, encyclopaedias, legal dictionaries and finding tools such as the Current Law Case Citator, Current Law Yearbook and Halsburys Lawsmay be found in this sequence.
Statutes

Here you will find material such the Current Law Statutes which publishes statutes in chronological order within each calendar year.Halsburys Statutory Instruments which indexes statutory instruments is also in this sequence.
Law Reports

Law reports contain the decisions of courts on point of law. There are those reports that deal with all aspects of the law such as The LawReports and the All England Law Reports, as well as those which specialise in a particular topic, for example, Criminal Appeal Reports andFamily Law Reports
Journals

Journals provide useful articles on a variety of legal topics as well as comments on statutes and cases. The Law Library houses a wide selection of journals including, Modern Law Review, Cambridge Law Journal, Oxford Journal of Legal Studies, New Law Journal and Solicitors Journal. Many of these journals are also available online via the library catalogue.
Books and pamphlets

This section includes student textbooks and material that are listed on students reading lists.

Official Publications

This is a small collection of reports and accounts presented to Parliament by Government Departments, together with some statistical material and Law Commission Reports.
Newspapers

The Times and Independent are available in the Law Library. We also subscribe to NewsUK which contains 68 national and regional newspapers.
Online databases

Access to the databases that Bangor University subscribes to is via the Online abstracts and indexes link on the library catalogue. Databases are essential resources as they provide a wealth regularly updated legal material. The Library has access to a number of legal databases including Justcite, Lawtel, LexisNexis and Westlaw.
Photocopying

Self-service photocopiers are located outside the Lloyd Reading Room. The photocopiers are operated using a rechargeable photocopy card.

Careers and Employability

Bangor University Law School and Bangor Students Law Society work hand in hand to provide a dynamic learning environment that accelerates students development and prepares them for life after graduation, be it in the legal profession, further study or another industry altogether. Through our continuous work in developing contacts with legal practitioners across the UK, we have developed a programme of work placements with a number of law firms and corporations, designed to put students learning into context and to equip them with invaluable practical experience of the sort of careers they may wish to pursue after graduating. This programme is complemented by regular careers talksfrom guest speakers. Through the support of legal practitioners in the local area we have also been able to conduct specialist module workshops

recently, which allow students to discuss and debate issues they have encountered in class with experienced professionals. The award-winning Bangor Students Law Society organises a calendar of events intended to complement what is learnt in lectures and to expand students career prospects. These include the annual Moot Court competitions (in which teams of students take part in simulated court proceedings) and the opportunity to obtain the BPP Certificate in Commercial Awareness. The Innocence Project and Street Law see students applying their legal education to real-life situations and to make a difference, whether that may be through overturning a wrongful conviction or distributing legal knowledge amongst local communities and schools. These activities are an impressive addition to any CV and help to nurture all-important analytical, communication, presentation and teamwork skills. Both School and Society work continuously to develop links with the legal industry to ensure that all available opportunities are to the utmost benefit of Bangor University Law Schools students and graduates.

Academic entry requirements

Undergraduate Students

For entry onto the first year of our 3 or 4 year undergraduate / Bachelor degree programmes we ask for a school leaving qualification which is equivalent to the British school leaving qualification, (A-levels / International Baccalaureate). Students who have completed A levels / IB and qualifications of the same level can apply for direct entry into year 1 of undergraduate programmes.
