Preface
Thank you for choosing DELTAs high-performance VFD-V Series. VFD-V Series are manufactured by adopting high-quality components, material and incorporating the latest microprocessor technology available. This manual will be helpful in the installation, parameter setting, trouble shooting and daily maintenance of the AC motor drives. To guarantee safe operation of the equipment, read the following safety guidelines before connecting power to the AC motor drives. Keep this operating manual handy and distribute to all users for reference. The AC motor drive is of the very delicate electronic product, and for the safety of users and the drive, it is essential to have the professional personnel or engineers to install the trial run and the parameter adjustment. Please pay special attention to symbols such as DANGER and WARNING, and if there is any confusion, please contact and consult with dealers nearby for advice, and our personnel will be more than happy to serve you.

Pay special attention to the following matters concerned:

DANGER!
1. When wiring is conducted, make sure that the power is OFF. 2. Be sure not to be place any flammable materials near the inverter, otherwise, fire might arise. 3. When the AC power is disconnected, and that the indicator on the digital keypad of the AC motor drive has not gone out, it means that there is still high-voltage within the drive; be advised not to touch the internal circuits and the components. 4. Do not rearrange the components and the wiring within the AC motor drive. 5. Do not connect the output terminals U/T1, V/T2 and W/T3 of the AC motor drive to the AC power. 6. Terminal, , of the AC motor drive should be grounded properly. The 230V Series is of the Third Type grounding, while the 460V Series is of the Special Type grounding. 7. The wiring conduct shall be carried out by qualified personnel only. 8. If the auto-reset function is ON, the drive will start running again automatically after the operation is stopped; be sure not to get close to the drive then in case danger might occur. 9. Be sure to deliver the power after the cover is properly placed, and be advised not to remove the cover once the power is delivered since electric shock might occur. 10. Do not operate switches with wet hands for fear that electric shock might occur. 11. When the inverter is delivering the power, do not touch the terminals of the inverter even if the motor is at the STOP position, since electric shock might occur. 12. Please set up a emergency STOP switch, otherwise it might be harmful to the machine and the personnel. 13. Only qualified personnel should perform maintenance, inspection and replacement operation. Mechanical Operation Hazard: The inverter will automatically drive the machine in motion, and it is the responsibility of the user to make sure that any such motion will not result in any unsafe condition. The factory-provided interlocks and operation limits should not be neglected or modified.

15. Electric Shock and Burn Hazard: When using instruments such as the oscilloscope to work on live inverters, the oscilloscopes chassis should be grounded and that a differential amplifier input should be utilized. Special care should be taken in selecting probes and leads and in adjusting the oscilloscope so as to make accurate readings. Please consult the instrument manufacturers instruction handbook for proper operation and adjustments on the instrument. 16. Strain Hazard: Improper lifting practices can cause serious or fatal injury. Lifting could only be conducted with adequate equipment and trained personnel. 17. Fire and Explosion Hazard: Fires or explosions might result from mounting the inverters in hazardous areas in which flammable or combustible vapors or dusts are present. Even if the motor utilized is okay for those hazardous areas, be advised still that the inverters should be installed away from these areas. 18. Electric Shock Hazard: All the motor wirings and the equipment enclosures should be grounded in accordance with the National Electric Code or its equivalent. The inverter leakage current to ground is higher than 3 mA. The VFD-V Series have prescribed two ground wires or a wire with a cross-section of at least 10 mm2. 19. Motor Overheat Hazard: With the 400 Hz inverter output possible, the inverter could put the motor in motion for a speed that is 6-7 times its base speed. Never operate the motor exceeding its top mechanical speed or fatal damage might occur. 20. Electric Shock Hazard: Do not touch the inverters electric components when power is ON, and after the power is OFF, wait till the Charge indicator is ON before contacting with the inverter. 21. Make sure that the main unit is appropriately installed before proceeding to the wiring work just so that the danger of electric shock and injury could be prevented. 22. Start the operation only after the input power supply is at the OFF condition, so as to prevent the danger of electric shock.

WARNING!
1. Please do not practice voltage-endurance test on internal components within the drive, for that the semiconductor utilized within the drive is easy to be broken down due to high voltage and will thus be damaged. 2. The CMOS IC on the power board within the drive is easy to be damaged, and be advised not to touch the power board with bare hands before the anti-static prevention is well conducted. 3. Even though the motor is at the STOP position, it is possible that the main circuit terminal of the drive still possesses the danger of high voltage. 4. Only qualified electricians and personnel have the authority to install, wire, and maintain and repair the drive. 5. When certain functions of the drive are set, it is likely for the motor to start running after the power is connected. 6. Choose a safe area to install the AC motor drive; avoid places with high temperature, direct sunlight, moisture, and water drop splashes. 7. Avoid the reach of children and people not concerned with this device. 8. This drive is good for use on locations approved by the company, and incidents such as fire, gas explosion, or electrical inductances might occur if utilized on locations not approved by the company. 9. If the wiring between the AC motor drive and the motor is too long, it might generate damage among the insulation layers of the motor; please select the inverter-specific AC motor instead, or install a reactor between the drive and the AC motor so as to prevent the burnout due to the damaged insulation of the AC motor. (Please consult with dealers near you or with our company directly for specifications of the reactor) 10. The inverter might be damaged due to improper delivery; please be advised not to connect power to damaged inverters. 11. When moving the inverter, please do not lift it with the front cover; lift the device through the heat sink base so as to prevent the front cover falling off and further, to prevent the injury on personnel and damage on the device. 12. Please install the inverter on incombustible location such as metal surface; please do not have the device installed near inflammable locations in case fire might result.

13. If numerous inverters are to be placed onto one control panel, please install a fan to keep the in-box temperature under 40 in case overheat situation or fire might result. 14. The inverter will give off heat, and thus, it is essential to have the device installed on locations with good ventilation so as to enhance efficiency. 15. Make sure that the power voltage matches with the input rated voltage of the inverter. 16. When the braking controller or the braking resistor is installed, make sure that he wiring is correct. 17. Selection on the specifications of the terminal screws and the wire diameters should follow the regulations stated, and be sure to tighten the screws. 18. Do not connect the main power with the output terminals U/T1, V/T2 and W/T3; misconnection will result in inverter damage. 19. Do not unplug the connector on the inverter when the power is still ON so as prevent the damage that might result in the control board. 20. When the inverter is running, do not check the signal on the power board. 21. The heat sink base will generate high temperature because of the braking resistor; do not touch it with your hands otherwise burnt might result. 22. Although the inverter could easily go from a low speed to a high speed, still, make sure that the motor and the drive are both within the maximum allowable speed limit. 23. If the braking resistor or the braking controller is needed, allow a reasonable installation distance from the main unit for ventilation. 24. All the inverters are set and adjusted already in the factory, therefore, do not randomly adjust the settings on the control board. 25. Do not touch the terminals with bare hands so as to keep the personnel from being injured. 26. When the maintenance is conducted, be sure to turn off the power first, and wait for one more minute till the status indicator is off as well (an indication that the power has all been used up), then proceed with the maintenance. 27. This inverter is recognized by Ul and cUL; for actual wiring, please refer to relevant electrical regulations of the US and Canada. As for the motor over-current protection, overload protection and the overheat protection circuit, please conduct other wiring works for these circuits.

28. Do not connect the inverter with the power voltage that goes over the limit of the specifications specified. If exceeding voltage is used on inverters, it will result in damage on internal components. 29. The power supplied could only be connected to terminals (R/L1, S/L2, T/L3). 30. Do not connect the power to the braking resistor connection terminals (+2/B1~B2). Never short circuit between the +1~- terminal or the +1~B2 terminal, and never connect with any resistor possessing the value that is lower than the standard application braking resistor. 31. Do not connect power to the control circuit terminal. 32. When the RUN or STOP commands are executed, please use the FWD-DCM and REV-DCM terminals. Avoid using the current contactor (ON/OFF) installed on the wire side of the inverter to conduct the RUN and STOP commands. 33. Do not conduct ON/OFF with the switch located on the output terminal of the inverter. 34. The power capacity allowable for inverters is in between the 1.5 times inverter rated capacity and 500KVA. If the inverter is used with the 500KVA power capacity, be sure t install a resistor (choose either ACR or DCR). 35. Do not connect the filter condenser at the output terminal of the inverter. 36. Do not operate the inverter if it is grounded. 37. If the fault alarm of the inverter is activated, consult the Troubleshooting Section on the instruction manual immediately; proceed with the operation after the error is corrected. Do not re-activate the alarm signal automatically through the external or communication methods. 38. Do not conduct any test on the insulation tester among the inverter terminals or the control circuit terminals. 39. Do not disconnect any power terminals once the whole device is connected to power. 40. Protection of the Motor Thermal Overload is provided, and the Motor Thermal Coupler Relay and the Motor Overload Relay could thus be simulated.

41. The ambient temperature has a great influence over the inverters durability and stability, therefore, do not install the inverter on locations where he temperature range is not allowed. Allow the cover of the ventilation equipment stays a while at temperature 40 or lower, afterwards, remove the cover and allow the ambient temperature to stay at around 40 to 50 . If the cover indeed has to be removed, other types of protection means is necessary for protect the device and the safety of the personnel. 42. For inverters with no internal braking transistor installed, only those with lower than 11KW inverters could be utilized; the external braking resistor could not be utilized. (For those greater than 11KW inverters, it is essential to install the braking unit and the braking resistor.) 43. The installation surface for the inverter should be heatproof, for that during the operation, the heat sink of the inverter is very likely rise up to about 90 (194F). 44. When installing the inverter, choose the surface that could bear the weight of the inverter just so that the inverter would not fall to the ground. 45. Do not stick any hard object (e.g. current probe) into the inverter so as to prevent fire and injury. 46. Do not assemble the inverter if it is damaged or that if there is a lack of component, just so that fire and injury will not result. 47. After the cover is took off, be sure to put it away to avoid the electric shock. 48. Since the setting of the high-speed operation for the inverter is quite simple, it is thus necessary to have a thorough understanding of the motor and the inverter before altering the settings again just so that accident could be avoided. 49. For the braking function of the inverter, there are limitations to the braking power and the braking time, and thus, please have a thorough understanding of the regulations before proceeding to the operation in case that accident might result. 50. When the device is to be discarded, be sure to handle it according to the industrial waste disposal regulations just so that accident could be avoided. 51. When carrying the device, appropriate methods should be employed based on the devices weight (e.g. the device should be carried by two men if it is over 10 kg, or a cart should be utilized if the weight is over 20 kg) so as to avoid accident. 52. Do not step on the device to avoid getting injured. 53. Make sure that the nominal voltage of the rated voltage and of the input current for the inverter matches with each other to avoid injury.

54. Do not connect the input power supply to output (the motor side) terminals (U/T1, V/T2 and W/T3) to avoid injury. 55. Do not connect with the resistor directly among the DC terminals (+1~+2/B1 or +1~-), and connect with designated braking resistors (optional) between +2/B1~B2 to avoid fire. 56. The final enclosures of the AC drive must comply with EN50178. (Live parts shall be arranged in enclosures or located behind barriers that meet at least the requirements of the Protective Type IP20. The top surface of the enclosures or barrier that is easily accessible shall meet at least the requirements of the Protective Type IP40). (VFD-V series corresponds with this regulation.)
