Project Assignment Introduction to PLC (EM408) Jan April 2014 1.

. Introduction The project is a group project focused on solving design problem of a PLC based mechatronic system. The topic given is 3rd Floor Elevator/Lift System. The groups have particular task to design the hardware (prototype) and the PLC control algorithm for controlling the elevator/lift movements. The elevator/lift has the following requirements: (a) 3 Floors. (b) Top Floor has only DOWN BUTTON. (c) Middle Floor has UP and DOWN BUTTONS. (d) Ground Floor has only UP BUTTON. (e) Beside that, it must have "EMERGENCY BUTTON. 2. Project Outcomes The project should have outputs/ products as following: (a) Software/ Program (Control) Algorithm and Simulation. The group have to design and simulate control algorithm for controling the movemnets of the elevator/lift via ladder (logic) diagram (and/or mnemonic codes) of PLC based on OMRON CJ1M code specifications. The designed algorithm and its simulations are conducted using CX-programmer. Hardware/ Prototype and Demonstration. The groups have to design and build prototype hardware of the topic given based on friendly user approach. The input output devices of the prototype have to be clearly defined and put into one integrated board to be easily plug-in and out to I/O cards of PLC OMRON CJ1M. The prototype has to be representable to demonstrate real control of the elevator/lift movements. Poster and Presentation One (1) A2 poster which is including flowchart of the project design processes and the important parts of the designed system has to be produced and used in presentation. Report The report has to be represented as a technical report which is consisting of; Introduction: background and objective of the project, problem statements, and proposed solutions. Literature Review: investigate and study any corresponding sources to seek and gain knowledge of the whole relating parts of the project. Project Design and Implementation: (on paper) proposed design, components and materials (hardware) selection, hardware building (assembling) processes of electrical, electronic and mechanical parts, and I/O wiring. Simulation and Result Analysis: simulate and collect some results to be analysed to show the performance of the designed system. Conclusion and Recommendation: conclude the whole results and compare them to the objective of the project in general and/or with some limitations, give suggestions for future development. References: books, journals, technical reports, etc. Appendices: data sheets and specifications of materials, etc.
